The law is not imperfect, just man. He like a spoiled child defiantly broke the law.

It is a wonder some just don't understand that we are not supposed to know everything unless it some horrific act a government or person is planning to or doing. What he did may or may not cause harm to the public, so what? He broke a trust with the public that can never be repaired.

Clearly, Bradley Manning is causing the internal rift within the political spectrum.. not the administrations belligerence about his treatment...

Cue the dirt people are going to start digging up on Crowley now..

Crowley quits over handling of Bradley Manning

A US state department spokesman PJ Crowley has been forced to quit after calling the treatment of the man accused of leaking secret cables to Wikileaks "stupid".

Crowley said that he was taking responsibility for the impact of his remarks about Bradley Manning, which has made the US Army look like a bunch of petty morons who like torturing people for making them look stupid.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said she accepted Crowley's resignation "with regret". Crowley had served his nation "with distinction", and was "motivated by a deep devotion to public policy and public diplomacy".

This deep devotion to doing the right thing was probably behind his dubbing the way Manning was being treated as being "stupid".

Crowley was speaking to an audience at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology about new media and foreign policy when a questioner asked about "torturing a prisoner in a military brig".

He said that he spent 26 years in the air force and felt what was happening to Manning is ridiculous, counterproductive and stupid, "and I don't know why the Department of Defense is doing it".

Nevertheless, he said "Manning is in the right place". He added that the comments were on the record but later said they were his own opinion.

In his resignation letter he said: "Given the impact of my remarks, for which I take full responsibility, I have submitted my resignation."

Amnesty International has expressed concern about the conditions in which Manning was being held, which puts the US right up there with Libya. In the US there is a lack of concern about Manning who is seen as a traitor even before his trial. One does not embarrass the US government by telling the world what it is actually doing rather than what it says it is doing.

The treatment of Private Bradley Manning is an internal American affair. Foreign outrcries over his treatment violate American sovereignty.
America has been violating the national sovereignty of dozens of nations for a hundred years. Why are you guys so special?

No need to dig up dirt. Crowley did it to himself.

Again... the torture part is funny.

Crowley was in the USAF for 20+ years.

Not having ice cream with evening chow is considered torture in the US Air Force.

That doesn't really mean anything.

Kind of like you saying that you don't think he caused any harm. It doesn't really mean anything.

At any rate... I was trying to add some humor.

Moving on...

"The first guard told me to “turn left.” When I complied, the second guard yelled “don’t turn left.” When I attempted to comply with the demands of the second guard, I was told by the first, “I said turn left.” I responded “yes, Corporal” to the first guard. At this point, the third guard chimed in by telling me that “in the Marines we reply with ‘aye’ and not ‘yes.’” He then asked me if I understood. I made the mistake of replying “yes, Sergeant.” At this point the forth guard yelled, “you mean ‘aye,’ Sergeant.” - Bradley Manning

This actually sounds like my first few minutes of Marine Recruit Training on Parris Island. :)

Come on Bradley! You're at the Marine Brig in Quantico Virginia... not Club Med!

That just strikes me as asinine. Why play with the kid like some kind of mad scientist? If your job is to simply lock him up, and you're a complete shill, then just do your goddamn job. Unless they were given specific instructions to be complete douchebags..

I think military discipline appears alien and barbaric to anyone who has never gone through it or understands it.

Whoa...back up. Are you calling me that?

We're all in for ****? Seriously? Do you think Military Discipline is a new concept?

BTW... I LOVE Lee Ermey and he portrayed a great Marine Drill Instructor because he WAS a Marine Drill Intructor when he was a Marine.
