yes, flyers lost, and thank you to phoenix for rallying near the end of their game to take
detroit into overtime, then beat them in a shoot out.
so canucks gained one point on detroit today, and two on Philly.
canucks played well today, was a very physical game, and they stood their ground,
outshot l.a. by many, missed lots of just abouts, but did score a timely goal, then
burrows scored in the empty net.
canucks got their mojo back today, but it will be tough in anaheim, they are playing good, and desperate
for a playoff spot, they are in 9th right now, so we know what to expect.
juan, it seems that all the teams have to battle through each game and do their
best 'in spite' of the officiating, it is poor all over the league, but hopefully
when playoffs start, and officials are selected to do those games, it will improve.

have 8 wins in a row, beat the leafs tonight.
the stars came from behind in this game and went ahead late and held off the sharks
to win 3-2
Calgary have been dropped to 7th now, still with more games than all the rest.
The Avs look terrible, they have tanked big time, what a long way from early in the
season when they were battling with canucks for 1st in the division.
I'm looking ahead to next season, where I can see the oilers, islanders and devils
all doing well, and showing a much different result than this season.
I was just doing a little mental math, Talloola- going to be a little while yet before any playoff spots are clinched or any eliminations are clinched.
yes, that is something I have plenty of, 'realism', and I have said a few times in the past, that I
like canucks to have some diversity going down the stretch to 'toughen' them up, and get them ready for
the playoff grind, nothing worse than riding high far ahead of everyone, then stinking in the playoffs.
hence, San Jose a couple of times, they looked like a shoe in for the cup, but it just doesn't work
that way, and it was easy to see, they could not 'rise' to the occasion in playoffs, nothing came as
easy for them as it did in the regular season, every game they played was more intense than they had
during the season, and they were not ready.
I do want canucks to win the presidents cup, but I want them to fight tooth and nail to get it, and
with a few teams threatening their position at the top, it will force them to find another gear, and
especially the sedins, they have struggled recently, and I think 'that' is why, they have to ramp
up their games.
I haven't being paying attention to that stat, so I'll take your word for it, how many points do
you think they need.
Well I think when it's all over the 8th spot teams will have about 93 points, BUT we won't know exactly which teams that will be until about the 81st or 82nd game. Your reasoning in everything you've said in the preceding paragraphs are right on the money. :smile:
Edmonton and Ottawa are not going to make the playoffs.
Neither are the Islanders or Florida or Colorado. Any team with 70 points or less is going to have a hell of a time
getting into the playoffs, Vancouver probably needs another 6 or 7 wins to ensure first place and the President's
Trophy but they can probably do that.

I think you'd be pretty close #Juan. I figure at the very least 100 points for the President's Trophy, probably should plan on 105 to be sure. I was just looking at New Jersey's stats. - they could make it but it would take a miracle- have to win about 15 out of 17 games.
Another near perfect hockey day, Canucks skunked the Ducks 3/0, put another 4 points between them and Philly. Just wish the Flames would "get lost".
You're close, I reckoned 107 for Calgary and 123 for the Nucks. The only concern I have about Calgary is them winning an 8th place playoff berth, in 7th spot Detroit could deal with them.

Schneider is technically a more modern goaltender than Luongo. He doesn't do as much flopping around. He cuts off one side and then he knows the other side is going to get most of the shots Schneider rarely breaks from the butterfly style and his reactions are so quick he is hard to
beat in close. I can see Schneider taking over number one spot in a year or two.

Schneider is a much more solid, (and I mean physically) person, he moves around the goal, all in one
piece, and luongo just isn't built that way.
Luongo has played very very well this season, he has been successful, and we should feel happy to
have him.
Luongo has made many saves that I would want to see schneider saving before I could put him ahead
of luongo, luongo has made many outstanding saves that so many goalies could not have done, BUT
I like schneider better for the future, as he is young, obviously going to be a great starter for
some team, BUT I don't know how canucks can bring him in as their starter any time in the next
four or five years because of Luongo's contract.
And Schneider will not be sitting around as the 'back up' for very long, he needs to have his own
team, be 'their guy', and as much as I want him to stay on the team, I don't know how that could
ever happen.
Luongo has had a few rough patches, but so do all the goalies, but he has been
solid for a long time now, and there is no reason to think of replacing him, unless
he goes down the toilet for a long period of time.
No team is going to take luongo's contract, and canucks are stuck with it for many years, so not
sure how that could ever work, they can't just move luongo to the back up position, that wouldn't
work, so if someone has a good answer for the problem, I would like to hear it.
I wasn't knocking Luongo I was praising Schneider. I am
convinced that Schneider will be a better goaltender than Luongo.
I also understand the ramifications of Luongo's lengthy contract.
Wanting to lock Luongo into a long term contract is great on one hand
but it also locks the team into the long term. I'm sure there are people
who will be after Schneider in the off season and come next fall we
won't have him anymore. I just hope they get good players/or money
for him.
