It might eliminate having to play two or three periods of overtime.

well, that doesn't happen in playoffs anyway, no shoot outs in playoffs, ten periods of overtime
can be played, if necessary, and that is a bummer too, because it exhausts teams to a point that
makes them unable to compete at their highest levels after that, but I suppose the fact that it
doesn't happen 'that much' keeps it legitimate, 'just' make sure you win your games in regulation,
and you don't have to go through that process.

I don't mind excluding the shoot out wins in the event of ties, it does decide that shoot out wins
do not equal regulation time wins, or overtime wins, and that is fair, in my opinion, but during
the season shoot outs definitely add a high level of excitement and entertainment value to a game,
just watch all of the fans, and also the players on the benches during a shoot out, and it is easy
to see.

One reason I don't watch basketball is that scoring is too common. Both teams are more likely
to score than not score on a rush down the court. During a regular hockey game, how many
full break aways would we expect to see? One? Two? None? I would save the shoot outs for the
playoffs. I see nothing wrong with a tie during the regular season.

I don't think it makes a hell of a difference which way you do it #Juan. The present method takes the bite out of losing in O.T. but to compensate now 93 points are generally needed to make the playoffs as opposed to about 80-85 points with the old system. In competitive sports ties don't settle anything. But whatever turns one's crank. Canucks better win tonight- that would just clinch their credibility among other things.

I like the last 5 minutes of basketball, I love the highlights of baseball, I love CFL,
and I will watch hockey any way they want to do it, doesn't really matter to me, BUT don't want to
see shoot outs in playoffs at all, just grind it out, as they always have, and the last one standing
will hoist the cup.

shoot outs are very popular with the live crowd, very exciting, I get that, brings people to their
feet, and probably brings more people to games in the u.s.

I'm looking forward to the game tonight, two very good teams going at it, don't have a clue who will
win this one, tim thomas could make the difference, hope I'm wrong, (unless, of course he makes the
difference by 'not' playing well. lol).

trade dealine on monday everybody, starts here at 5 a.m. and finishes at 12 noon pacific time.

there has been so many trades in the past two weeks that I'm not sure if there are any left to
be done, but i'm interested to see if Gillis does anything, hope it;s another player for the 4th
line, a center if possible, and a player that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, but I do not think he
will let anyone go off of the roster at this time, at least I hope not, players who haven't been
playing well, are now, team is looking strong, but that 4th line center position certainly can be improved
upon. Hodgson isn't a 4th line player, when an opening comes up later on in the top 6, he will step in,
but the 4th line isn't his 'cup of tea', he's more 'finess' than that, and not quite gritty enough.

very good hockey game, even though canucks came out on the wrong end, but that is the battle,
and it was a battle, either team could have won this game.

maybe that little rebound that caused the 2nd goal made tim thomas the better goalie, but that
is being picky, very picky.

columbus next then nashville

yes, philly losing helped us out, too bad detroit won.

mike gillis did well today, added exactly what the canucks need going forward toward the end
of the regular season and on into the playoffs.

chris higgins, maxim lapierre, and MacGreggor Sharp, (whom I know nothing about)

the two above will add energy, and experience to the fourth line, or wherever vineault decides
they need to play, now hodgson and oreskovich have gone to manitoba, (hodgson can play big
minutes there and be fresh to come up any time they need him,) he is going to be a major player
on the canucks, but it is not fair to stick him on the fourth line, and not get enough minutes,
he needs to play, and play lots, which is what he will do in manitoba. He will gradually make his
way onto the 'top' six as other players move out, and as he gains more experience.

I'm so glad gillis did not tinker with the present lineup, all players in 'the room' are still there,
with the new additions coming in, so nothing interferred with the chemisty, which is good.

Both ex-habs....don't get excited.

Higgins has failed everywhere he has gone....trust me, you'll be hard pressed to notice him in game.

Laps? Have fun watching him hit people from behind in dangerous positions and then running away from a fight.....he's a poor mans Sean Avery.

concerning lapierre, that detail was discussed with gillis today, and he assured everyone that any
new players coming in will play according to the instructions from coaches/management, or they will
not see ice time, and that is the way it is,so those two players, who have ability', better be pumped
to play in vancouver, and apply themselves, or they will not play, 'it is a consistent style of
vineault to play players who deserve the ice time, and he does not put up with any slack assing,
or non diciplined play, 'hence', both burrows and kesler have cleaned up their acts this year, after
a meeting with management/coach, who both told them what was expected, and they have done it very
well, and the room is a very strong room this year, all players are on the same page, so no player
can come onto the team with their own agenda, they will hear it from the 'room' and from the 'coach'
The trade was done for 'minor leagers', so no 'biggy', and if they don't 'bring it',
(and they can if they want to), they will be in the minors, or just put on waivers,
and as gillis always puts it "It's up to the player if he wants to stay here or not."

Tough shoot-out win for canucks, I missed most of the game, had to be out for awhile, but saw the
last ten minutes, according to post game radio, the game was not very good, and luongo was the 'man'
tonight, and stole one for his team.

He was good in the shoot out, and they got the two points they need to stay ahead of detroit/philly.

Many teams in our conference are playing desperate hockey right now, they are fighting to make the
playoffs, canucks are not in that position, and it is difficult to fine desperation, when you are
not desperate.
I like the fact that they are being pushed, and in games where they have to find a way to win, or don't
win, it keeps them away from cruising along way out in front, in the standings, which is bad news.

Canucks will be better when the last 3 defencemen return, I think Bieksa is about a week away.

I'm sure hoping for that presidents cup, but it will be very hard, but what ever team wins it,
will have home team advantage all through playoffs.

Good for mason raymond tonight, he had a breakout game, looked real good, and had a great shoot out
goal as well.
