Looks like the Jive / Archie thing is more of a mutal decision rather than them outright dropping him.

YouTube - Decisions Decisions

(LOL - Monster trucks, roller coasters.. I left my label and management.. oh, look there's a banana tree behind me)

David's sweet but he also strikes me as someone who is aware of who he is and as he said he has the ability to make his own decisions and as he isn't 17 any more that's going to affect his decisions. Where did Barry and Jeff go? Universal? I wouldn't be too surprised if David ends up following them there eventually.

I'm not aware if 104.1 played AWM or not. But Chicago's WTMX has a new you pick it evening hour and they've played it a couple of times from people voting for it.

Where did Hey, Rosetta! play? Was it a nice venue?

It was an okay venue, the sound was kind of crappy... but that might have been because I was standing literally in front of the stage, like two feet front the band. It was an amazing evening! I ended up the evening with some new friends, a cool t-shirt, a guitar pic from the lead singer (and I also took a picture with him), and a signed CD by all 7 members of the band! Oh, and the concert was great too (but I didn't expect any less!).

From MJ's:

New David Cook/Ryan Tedder tune called “The Last Goodbye” JUST added to ASCAP. David is listed as a performer, which is a good indication that it’s been performed/recorded at some point. “The Last Goodbye” would be a good title for a boot song, wouldn’t it? Hm.

Well, I would be super happy if this ends up being the boot song (and it fits with David's "surprise thing" that is supposed to air on March 3rd), but, gah, Ryan Tedder? *sigh* There's really no escaping him.

Tedder is unavoidable, lmao. But that will be really cool for David and help boost his profile for his album coming out. I hope it's true.

Idol tonight.

Who knew it was the vocal coaches and Jimmy I. who would be the new Simon? (clearly JLo (I almost called her Paula, lmao) can not deal with disappointing the children.. harden your heart JLo you got this, don't break on me now)

They really pulled out all the special effects for that spectacular hangar, I was impressed by it's awesomeness. I also liked the people they were hoping I wouldn't. Tim and Paul, which makes me kinda laugh at myself because while Idol wants to return to the past days of glory .. I kind of liked the past couple of winners the best (well David and Kris anyway)

"That suit should be a crime - that's a lawsuit" - Steven Tyler.

I thought a lot of the Beatles songs were done well, but most in a style I'd probably not bother buying. And some were trainwrecky, and some were strictly for giggles... Lauren Scotty and friend.

I also liked the people they were hoping I wouldn't. Tim and Paul

You and I, SleepinIn. You and I. I didn't think much of Tim (he has a predestined name for me to like him, no?) from his audition, but I loved what I heard from him tonight. Same thing with Paul actually. Wow, that Blackbird with Kendra was gorgeous! He also obviously gets lost in the music, I love that. His voice is delicious.

(Apparently, Tim is a friend of the Green River Ordinance boys. I don't like their music that much, but they're cool guys, so another reason to root for him!)

Ladies and Gentlemen, you new American Idol.... Paul McDonald.

Well, I'd love that, LOL. Except I don't think it will happen. Paul's voice might be a little too quirky for a lot of people. Though I can see a lot of people liking him as well.

I'm not too excited about the girls so far (maybe except the aforementioned Kendra). And too bad for Ashton, the only thing I can think of when I see or hear her name is a famous Québec City restaurant that serves poutine. Haley's voice is clearly not for me. Neither is Clint's. I almost hoped they would have put 16 year-old Deandre through instead, he had a good voice.

Oh, and also, I'm quite already over the "Lauren Alaina" show. She'll probably be there for a long time, but I already feel as though I've seen way more of her than I've ever wanted to see (and hear).

I strongly strongly dislike James Blunt, whose voice I find particularly unlikeable and whiny. And I didn't hear "whiny" in Paul's vocals. Anyway, I still have to hear more from him, but I loved everything they showed of him tonight, Blackbird and his original song.

It kind of saddens me that I have no idea who you guys are talking about since I've been so busy, and worse, I no longer have sound on my computer so I can't look up any of this stuff and listen to it - or even Jim C.'s recap. I suppose I'll just fall by the wayside and be lost in the limbo of the computerless, now. Sigh. :(

As for Archie I was assuming it was a somewhat mutual parting of the ways. Don't ask me why. By the way, I was in Target the other night and while I stood in front of Archie's CD's a woman picked one up for purchase. I only mention that because I have a kind of pet peeve when people on blogs write that "no one" is buying an Idol's CD. I guess I just don't like the way that's phrased.

Sorry - Barry and Jeff who?

I'm not aware if 104.1 played AWM or not.

I've tried listening a few times but I don't have the patience. The thing is, if they ask people on their website if they want to hear the song, it seems like a foregone conclusion they'll play it. They're a very commercial sort of station and everything seems planned out.

That would be nice if David gets the boot song. To be honest I've never totally understood the emphasis Idol fans place on the boot song, or why there even needs to be a boot song, I guess. But I anyway I'm glad if David gets to do it this season.

Ha! True. :) Truthfully from first looks I didn't think much of him either, I really liked what I saw of him last night but that could change.

Wow, that Blackbird with Kendra was gorgeous! He also obviously gets lost in the music, I love that. His voice is delicious.

That was beyond sublime.

(Apparently, Tim is a friend of the Green River Ordinance boys. I don't like their music that much, but they're cool guys, so another reason to root for him!)

Yes! I remember them talking about him, but I wasn't that impressed until yesterday, but the GRO guys are awesome, so purely for that alone I'd hope for the best for him.

Ladies and Gentlemen, you new American Idol.... Paul McDonald.

He won yesterday for me, but it's way too early to call anything. He just showed a lot of originality and musicality something I really put a lot of weight on when picking faves.

Tonight they showed Kendra's solo and with that Blackbird duet I'm really liking her too.

It kind of saddens me that I have no idea who you guys are talking about since I've been so busy, and worse, I no longer have sound on my computer so I can't look up any of this stuff and listen to it - or even Jim C.'s recap. AWWW :( Miss you Ross. Hope you find your way back to the superhighway.

Where did Barry and Jeff go? Universal? I wouldn't be too surprised if David ends up following them there eventually.
Sorry - Barry and Jeff who?

That was part of David's vlog he mentioned that Jive had changed management since he'd signed there with Barry Weiss??? (head) and Jeff Fenster (David's A&R person) leaving so he wasn't working with the people he started out there with anymore.

The thing is, if they ask people on their website if they want to hear the song, it seems like a foregone conclusion they'll play it. They're a very commercial sort of station and everything seems planned out.

I hope so, they've supported Kris, but you know how radio stations are. What have you done for me lately? The Chicago station was being a pain with requests, they played AWM but it was almost against their will. That's not going to help at all.

That would be nice if David gets the boot song. To be honest I've never totally understood the emphasis Idol fans place on the boot song, or why there even needs to be a boot song, I guess. But I anyway I'm glad if David gets to do it this season.

I think the emphasis really started when Daniel Powter's Bad Day sold a bazillion copies. It was already a hit worldwide before being on Idol, but being on Idol pushed it in the US which had been holding out. Although, Daniel Powter where are you now?

Tonight's Idol...

Jacob Lusk I know you can sing, but I feel that you are going to irritate the ever lovin crap out of me before we are through and there is no way you had the best performance EVER on Idol. You're sweet and you can sing. Try not to make me crazy.

Lauren Alaina. *sigh* What was that dress? Seriously. Girl can sing. But I'm a little over the drama. She's a Miley Cyrus kind of crazy and I'm not sure I want to go along for the ride. We'll see.

James - not gonna lie, I'm kinda hoping he hangs in there solely because every Adam comparison is going to drive the internets crazy. LOL I think he can be good... at times.. I just don't love that high screamy singing.

Jordan. I'm really interested in seeing if he's right when he makes decisions on Idol.

Robbie Rosen he's one of the young peeps I'm really interested in.

Casey you are always awesome. I hope you get to compete and get out of the hospital.

Brett you're sweet and I generally like you.. do not write songs.

ETA: OH! My mom would totally buy Jaycee's album.. today :) (his last song was nice, but he's SO young he's get eaten up this year)

Come back to us ross! We miss you. Damn computers.

I think Cook fans are mostly excited about the boot song because it gives us something new from David after a very very quiet year from him... even if it's only the Idol boot song written by Ryan Tedder!

I still haven't watched last night's Idol, I was too busy/tired last night, but I'll watch it later today.

Yeah, guess I shouldn't get my hopes up. They probably won't play it. I mean, they did ask if people want to hear the song, but Kris has done no concerts for them lately so they don't owe him anything. Looks like Kris is basically dead as a radio artist. Not sure how the Chicago station was being a pain with requests but it sounds like they hate him.

I think I put it wrong when I mentioned the boot song. See, personally I usually never even hear it, so I'm amazed people even hear background music like that - and then buy it. I'm usually watching what's happening and not listening to the music in the background. It's just the way I perceive things, I guess.

I think it's very cool, though - is it now official? I wasn't sure.

I haven't watched last night's ep. yet, either. I watched a little, and I heard Casey singing, and I was totally unimpressed with his voice this time around. It was very thin - sounding, to me. he does a lot with it, but it's not a very rich voice and after a while it might grate - or get tedious and repetitive. And Durbin - ugh. I'll watch the whole, long, turgid thing tonight or tomorrow night, though.

I'm sure some radio stations still play LLWD all the time, no? Otherwise, we'll have to wait until he releases a new album.

No, I understood what you were saying and I agree with you. Personally, the excitement I've seen about it this year is mostly related to the "new Cook song" thing than just an "OMG, boot song!" kind of feeling. I can remember who did the boot song the last three years (Ruben, Carrie and then that Will guy who won Pop Idol), but it's not necessarily something I think about too much. Anyway, it hasn't been officially confirmed that David is doing the boot song this year, but the clues all point to this.

Okay, just watched Idol.

I'm much more looking forward to the guys singing on Tuesday (well, taping tonight, spoilers soon, yay!) than the girls on Wednesday. Casey (according to Slezak, he is taping the show tonight, double yay!) and Paul are my top 2, then Tim rounds out my top 3 (though he wasn't as good on his solo song than in Vegas). Robbie and Brett are so young, but I still think both are really good. I'm still uncertain about Stephano, Jovany and Jordan. I'll never be a James fan, but at least, I thought he was better in his last solo performance than in all we heard him do before. I'll never be a Clint fan either. I don't think the guy stands any chance at making the top 10-12-13. Jacob is already driving me insane. Not my cup of tea, AT ALL. Scotty? I'll pass.

I'm much more conflicted with the girls. I think I could really like Julie, or I could really dislike her, depending on what she does. I think I'll like Kendra, but I need to hear more. Also need to hear more from Lauren Turner, Karen, Naima and Pia. Rachel doesn't seem like the type of singer I like. I've made my peace with the fact that Lauren Alaina "15 going on 40" will be there for a long time, but I think I'll just pretend as though she isn't there. Haley kind of has an annoying voice and has trouble enunciating, meh. Ashton and Tatynisa are kind of non-entities for me because neither struck me as memorable in any way. And I just don't get Thia. She has one of the most annoying voices I've ever heard and a very big problem with her phraising. Like Miley Cirus, but even worse. I would have taken Jessica instead of her in the top 24 any day.

(Yes, I was looking at the top 24 list at MJ's to write my post. Especially for the girls, they're kind of hard to distinguish so far.)

Paul McDonald's website: PAUL McDONALD - OFFICIAL WEBSITE - The Grand Magnolias - Paul McDonald American Idol

He's also on twitter, which is weird. I thought that once they made the top 24, they had to close their website and stop updating twitter. He's still very active on his twitter, Twitter.

I'm currently listening to his band's music on his website, it's pretty good.

Oh, my, this song from Paul's band is AWESOME! I love, LOVE it!

YouTube - Paul McDonald - The Grand Magnolias - Heartbreak - American Idol

Very, very far from James Blunt!

Yes, some do - and some still play The Truth. I thought Mix104.1 asking their listeners if they wanted to hear Alright With Me showed a willingness or desire on their part to play the song - I can't think of any other reason why they would ask. But I suppose there could be other reasons - like maybe they just want to tease us fans. lol. But maybe it is more a case of "what have you done for us lately", in which case Kris hasn't done anything for them lately. He's played a few gigs for them, but not for seven months.

I still haven't watched the two hour episode where the Top (what was it?) 24? was selected. I'm VERY out of it, this season. Somehow I just haven't had much time - I wish the episode was only an hour. I actually haven't heard not-James-Blunt Paul MacDonald. I will have to bring earphones to work, I guess. He looks a little like Drew Wright.

I'm not sure why people are talking about the "taping" of the male Top 12 (in regard to Casey Abrams being sick). What does this mean? That the show is no longer airing live?? So people can't vote?

The semi-finals shows for next week are pre-taped. It was pre-taped tonight for the guys and I believe it's on Monday for the girls. The boys show will be aired on Tuesday and the girls show on Wednesday. Results will be live on Thursday. Apparently, before season 8, all the semi-finals shows were pre-taped. After they select the top 12 (or 13, I guess), then the shows will be live all the time (well, it's supposed to be like that anyway!).

According to the spoilers, both Casey (in the pimp spot... but still sick) and Paul did awesome, so yay!

Paul's awesome. He's got good taste in music too from reading back his twitter feed. Whatever happens with him, it's nice to be introduced to artists you like and I really like him plus I'm so glad Casey got to sing.

Kinda spoilery but I kind of have some issues with the screamy side of James but I'm NGL I'm really interested in seeing what he does with the song he picked too. I'm excited to see who makes it and who I like.

Honestly, I don't have any problems if we want to discuss the spoilers here. I've already read Brittany (the girl who was there last night and who reported the spoilers to MJ)'s very detailed account from the show, so I know pretty much all there is to know about Tuesday's show, LOL.

Yeah, some song choices are kind of interesting and different, so I'm looking forward to that.

I don't care either, I don't really read everything but if I hear spoilers it doesn't matter to me. I read the spoilers too, LOL. The changes to the live show sound kind of interesting actually. I'm wondering how it will come off on tv.
