I see your point but that game last night was so close it could have gone either way.
In a way, I see Chicago as a potential trap for the Canucks. The Canucks were treading
on eggs a bit last night so maybe if they do meet Chicago in the playoffs, it won't be such a tight game.

two things for me concerning last nights game.

1) canucks had just played dallas then nashville, neither of those teams came out with the speed
that chicago did.

2) just got back from road trip, always an adjustment it seems, I was hoping it wouldn't take them
too long to up their pace, luongo gave them the time they needed, then it was a barn burner.

Let's have a little game, predicting the date the Canucks will clinch a playoff berth. I predict March 16.

march 1st.

To keep winning these games with very little time off in between is a bit of a feat. I see their next
game is on Monday.

On the chance that Vancouver wins the cup, how much will it cost to keep Kesler? I'm guessing a lot
more than a million seven.

If they win the Stanley Cup, they'll have lots of money for him. A very minimum of 8 games on home ice and probably about 12.

I don't remember when his present contract expires. They won't negotiate a new contract until the
final season before present one expires.
He makes a lot more than a million seven, must be about 3.5 mil, i'm guessin.

I was looking at a 2010 salary list where it showed Kesler's salary as $1,700,000.00. A 2011 list shows him
getting $5,000,000.00 which seems quite reasonable judging by what the rest of the team is getting.

.

The Canucks have 77 points right now and they are in a bit of a streak of five consecutive wins. Now they had a longer streak than that
earlier. If they win another eight games, they will have the 93 points you spoke of. If they keep on playing like they are now, it becomes
a mute point because nobody is going to catch them.

Tonight the Canucks play the struggling Senators.

Comparing records, the Canucks are all over the Senators. I would say that the Canucks will have their sixth win in a row
against the slumping Senators but who knows. Maybe this will be a mercy gift game for the Senators to regain their fan interest.

the canucks must come out strong and play their best, and just as samuellson said today, all the teams
are capable of winning, even if they are down in the standings, and as soon as anybody takes anybody
for granted 'you will lose'.
these players and coaches dwell on that mind set every game, don't look back, don't look ahead, focus on
the present, win 'this' game, then move on.

It's only the media and fans who constantly talk about outcomes, either short term or long term, and fans
and media can't focus on the present and can't think about only one game at a time, that is why they
are playing and we are not. lol

alberts is back in tonight, and tanev is out. tanev pleased everyone, he is a diamond in the rough,
(not so rough through), and a very bright looking defencemen for the canucks for a long time to come.

GO CANUCKS GO

yes, that sounds right, they negotiated his new contract in the last year of the 1,700,000.00, so it
kicked in beginning of this season, probably a 3 year deal i'm assuming.

yes, any other team in the league would eagerly pay him 5 mill right now.

I'll be switching back and forth from canuck game to calgary/chicago game,
during commercials and intermissions tonight. If chicago lose to calgary,
they have big problems, as they will drop even lower in the standings, haven't
checked it today.
yeah, just looked, calgary - 10th - 59 pts.
chicago - 11th - 58 pts.

You can bet your last five dollars that any team would gladly grab Kesler for five mil and more.

Kesler is a good abrasive player who takes the fun right out of the game for opposing players
and has likely the deadliest wrist shot in the league.

There is no limit to the depths a team can reach on any given night- Ottawa is probably a little hungrier right now and being the Capital aren't they expected to set an example for the other Canadian teams?

yes, he matured this season, got it all together, lost the trash talk, lost the kamakazzie style, always
crashing at the end of his plays, he practiced his wrist shot 'all' summer he said., has become a real
team leader, and if he had been this way last season, I would have wished 'him' for captain, even though
henrik is a great captain too.
Maybe it's better that henrik has the C, he is so 'cool', and unflappable, and
kesler doesn't have to worry about behaving perfect, as he would if he had the C,
he can spout off once in a while, if he needs to. lol

my point was, that chicago might not make the playoffs at all, i they keep up this inconsistent play.

Canucks can play anybody, doesn't matter, let the others all worry about canucks. Would much rather
be sitting where canucks are right now, than either calgary or chicago.

It's quite possible we will play one of them first round, who knows, doesn't matter, all the teams
in the playoffs can beat anybody, who cares what logo they have.

right now I just want to see canucks stay on top and go on to win the 'president's cup', what a
great accomplishment that would be.

whatever happens after that is gravy.

Yep, to win the President's Cup they have to be better than all the other teams, to win the Stanley Cup they just have to be better than 4 teams.

what seems to be happening with many canuck fans is, they can't let themselves embrace what the
team is doing, and has been doing for some time now, playing on top of the league, winning lots of
games, and doing it with great flare, not defensive but playing both ends very well.
The fans seem to be afraid to allow themselves to enjoy this, they don't want to be dissapointed if
they don't go on to win the cup, there is 'fear' and 'doubt' out there, and this wonderful season
is going by very quickly, and they are actually missing it, as their fear and doubt get in the way.
Many phone calls, in to the radio, always sound so 'doubtful', as though they don't really believe what
they are watching, and it really must be some kind of mistake.
And, that old saying, that is so stale now, that over the past 40 years the team
has dissapointed the fans so many times, that they can't think any other way, well
to me that is 'crap', all of these players, coaches, owners and g. manager had
nothing to do with the team 40 years ago, and many years after that, so get over
it, it's all about 'you', (not you JLM, just talking to fans in general- lol),not what the 'team' has 'done' to you.

To me, that is sad. I am having a ball watching this team, it is so much fun. I love it.
I am not thinking of doom and gloom ahead, for me there is no doom and gloom ahead.

Well, that's right- the playoffs of '94 are still fresh in my mind, after that first round against Calgary when they were down 3/1 and then came back to win 3 straight, the whole province was on a high, then the next two rounds were easy and then the fourth round against the Rangers was a repeat of round one but sadly the 7th game had a different outcome but by that time it didn't matter, half of Vancouver was at the airport to meet them and still put on some kind of parade for them. Everyone was in a state of euphoria. I listened to C.K.N.W. all the time in those days and that one sports reporter (not Neil McRae) used to really piss me off- he just couldn't handle a team losing- "they are professionals, they are not paid to lose"- he had a talk show every night about 10 o'clock- the goof's names escapes me right now.

That is one name that keeps running through my mind, another is Scott Russell. At any rate real arrogant pr*ck, people phoned in and he'd insult them 9 times out of 10. The bottom line with him was winning- no interest in how the game was played.

I was thinking about lee powell, but not sure if he did it back that far.

wierd game tonight, canucks totally in charge up 3 zip, then let ottawa back
in, they got very excited, ramped up their game and played better.
pins and needles the rest of the way, two goal posts on the empty net, then
samuellson scores from 2 miles away.
oh well, a win is a win, so good for them.
