Does anyone else use freecycling groups? I belong to one for my city, and it just hops. Over 600 posts/day of stuff people are looking for or looking to get rid of.

The only rule... it all has to be free.

My ex was into that.... Was like a cyber yard sale. A pretty good deal if you overlook the gas you waste following directions from folks who either don't have a clue where they are or are just posting because it's the Internet.

Woof!

It's on Yahoo Groups, and is titled Edmonton Earthcycle

I'm sure there may be others, but, this one seems pretty busy.

I'm a little frustrated with the staff today though, because I posted an offer that included us delivering (because not everyone has a truck, and we're more than happy to get rid of it), and they refused to post it because I didn't include my location. *sigh* why do I need to give my location if I'm not making them pick up? Grrr.

I just joined a group today in Charlottetown. Jamie and I are moving out of our duplex, and into our first home. If she gets a job on the island after vet school is finished, we may very well buy the house. It's out in the country, closer to where I work, and still close to vet clinics in the Charlottetown area.

I want to build a backyard chicken coop. But since we're not sure how long we'll be there, I don't want to drop a lot of money on building materials. I have a rough plan sketched out, as there's no use having rigid plans when the materials we use will be so variable. Looking forward to seeing what's out there, and what I can do with free material!

I got rid of a ton of stuff through freecycle. computer parts that i no longer wanted/needed, crib, car seats, all sorts of stuff. some of it, i'm sure the people were going to sell at a yard sale or flea market, but quite frankly I just wanted to get rid of it, and I hate throwing stuff out that is still of some value.

Is there a decent sized freecycle community in the Fundy region? according to google, I'd be member 900. Not huge by any means.

I quit using freecycle actually, because I found the Habitat for Humanity reStore. I take all my stuff to give away there now, and buy much of my stuff there as well.

Do they have much lumber left-over from their housing projects? We volunteer with them at work every summer. I'll have to inquire.

I spent over $400 at the reStore today, which may sound like a lot, but we bought two hickory kitchen base cabinets, an upper cabinet, and two solid oak doors stained almost black. The combo will become a built in desk stretching across 8' of office space. There's no way we could have built anything so sharp at that price.

I tried the freecycle group in my area, Oshawa/Durham Region, but found it so busy that it was a waste of time.
We have just had one of the Habitat stores open in Oshawa so I think I will be checking that out.

I found the one in Ch'town. Will be checking it out, as well as the freebies.
