All of these plot devices were used by government and the media to paint a picture that was different from the real story. That being, of course, that resources were at stake, and that there was no real ethical justification to use war to claim them at the time.

What resources did we obtain, if any area profited it was Europe and I'm not sure about them. There was no reason for the second Iraq war, except possibly to get Saddam out power (that could have been done without a total war) and leave immediately before the total destruction of his goverment.

Regarding the original post/link, the helicopter crew contacted a lawyer before firing. I would call that being quite serious about the legalities of war.

On a side note, has anyone noticed these wikileak and rawwhatever sites aren't controlled by the US government? That's gotta be a big blow to the conspiracy theorists who contend the government runs and controls all communication. Or are they counter intelligence gimmicks? Either, or, it can't be both.
