Let's list a significant campaign promise that Obama has kept. Let's talk about the promise that eligibility for Medicaid be expanded.
PolitiFact | Expand eligibility for Medicaid - Obama promise No. 57:
Before Obama and the health care reform law, Medicaid was one of the most useless government programs. And that's coming from me, a liberal who really likes government programs.
It was useless because it was insanely exclusive. It's supposed to be free health insurance for poor Americans, but over time, the definition of "poor" has changed. We have a situation where Americans who are by all accounts poor, do not qualify for Medicaid because they're still considered to be too wealthly for it.
There are masses of Americans who can benefit from Medicaid, but do not pass the acceptance standards. Some states that are ideologically opposed to government programs even make Medicaid more hard to get. It's a mess.
Expanding eligibility is just common sense. Good job Obama.
