yeah? tell that story to all the rinks who sell their seats
for $100 for 4 tickets including a meal, and they still can't fill the rink. Canadian rinks charge the most, as they fill the building, and a few of the u.s. rinks.
Would you go and see a performer for $150.00 a ticket, I
sure wouldn't, and I wouldn't go and listen to anne coulter
speak, wonder how much that cost, and I wouldn't pay those
prices for almost anything, but it seems many do, seem to
be able to afford it, so be it, lots of season ticket holders for canucks, and a huge waiting list.
It is not the players who drive up the price, it is the
owners who compete with each other to get players, it all
started in St. Louis about 20 years ago, with shanahan and
one other player, and they have played that game with each
other ever since, hence contracts have risen very high,
but not all of them, just the elite players, and of course
all salaries rise along with everything else in the world,
except for the average joe working, as his/her salary is
lagging behind the rising cost of living.
All driven by different 'owners' of corporations, hockey
teams, and whatever other companies are out there.
Corporate money drive the engine of life, and government.
Not the worker, and that includes the hockey player.
The cap system will sort that out to a point, as many players now have to take less to get on a team, as just the
elite players are being paid high salaries, and teams are
even bringing players out of the college leagues now, and
that is also why very young players have been brought into
the NHL, as it keeps salaries down.
The owners did it, the players get blamed for it, and if you
were a player and you kept getting bids from different teams
that were much higher than should be, would you turn it down, I think not.
important win for canucks tonight, they have now clinched
the northwest division, and have 100 points.
They have won the division 3 out of the last 4 seasons.
Luongo played a very good game tonight, (but it looked like canucks lost a bit of focus right after edler scored in the empty net, this will help them 'not' to do that.)couple of sloppy
goals right at the end, one was 'not' his doing, the other,
it seemed he, (like everyone) thought the play was going
to continue around back of the net, but the player just threw the puck back out
in front, and their player was right there, and in it
went. But by that time we should have been up by about
5 goals, as we missed so many shots early on, and of
course baxtrom also played a very good game, and was first
star.
After all was said and done, I'm glad we had overtime as
it gave henrik a point, whereas if we had of won in regulation time, he wouldn't have had any, so now he is 4
up on ovetchkin, and we have 3 games to play, next game
against colorado. I have mixed feeling about that game,
as I want colorado to get the 8th spot over calgary, so
if they do beat us, I won't be broken hearted, as long as
henrik gets some individual points and stays ahead of
ovetchkin.

I don't much like the prospect of playing Detroit in the first round. NOt much chance avoiding it now I guess.
I've decided in my mind, that it doesn't really matter who
we play.
Detroit have a very strong offense, and goaltending is
good, but not scary.
Their defense is good, but not scary, similar to ours.
Chicago isn't playing like they did for most of the year,
I watched them 'again' today, and although they won, they
weren't 'scary', and don't seem to have the intimidation
over other teams they had before.
Their goaltending is good, not scary.
Colorado has had to play their backup goalie now, as
anderson, who was their 'ace in the hole', is now on the
bench because of poor play. Glad they won today, cause
they are ahead of calgary again.
Nashville is a scary team- wouldn't want to play them first.
L.A. can be a scary team, but not as consistent as Nashville
Phoenix is playing very well, can be scary.
So, it really doesn't matter, they all have the ability to
win their first round, just like canucks do, whoever they
play.
Guess I missed something after the empty-netter-I switched off and did something else after it went in.
yeah, so did the canucks. even the coach just threw out the
fourth line to get the game over, they were even having a
good time on the bench, as some of them were starting to
celebrate their division championship. H E L L O !!!!!

up in a shoot out, the only shooter to score was
dechene for colorado, their young rookie, who will probably
win rookie of the year in the NHL.

If playoffs started tonight the canucks would lose in the first round. I know coach V was resting a few players. including Luongo but thery just don't have the defense or the firepower to face any of the more respectable teams. Detroit will knock them out in four games straight. I would suggest Vancouver get out threir golf clubs and think about where they might find some talent, including a goaltender for that team

they rested salo, good decision in my mind, and he will
rest saturday too.
ehrhoff is also resting too, his knee is just about 100%,
but he is resting, I think he will play
saturday. Not sure what is bothering o'brian, I know he
took a shot off his heel from samuellson the other day,
so maybe that is the problem .
last night for a while we had 3 defensemen, as two of
them were in the penalty box.
there wasn't much intensity for the first two periods.
If raycroft hadn't let in that softy, we would have lost
by one goal, nothing to be ashamed of, in a game where
there is nothing to play for except for henrik's scroing
title.
What I am concerned about with canucks going into playoffs
are the away games, that is where the team has looked a
little weaker, and the reason for that is, the other coach
has the first change on the bench, and our scorers can't
score as well as they do at home. That is a concern, but
as good as they have been at home, the visiting teams need
to have concerns for themselves when coming to our rink.
Baumgartner will not be playing in playoffs, unless there
is a need to fill in a missing spot.
There is a middle ground here juan, everything isn't perfect
when we are winning, and everything isn't disaster when
we lose. Check the stats for canucks this year, maybe
you will feel a little better. Lots of very good teams in
our conference, I can't pick a winner out of any of them,
or a loser.
I'm not worrying about anything, just glad we are in the
playoffs, have won our division, second in the league in
scoring, henrik is leading scoring race, at least today,
so there is lots to be happy about with this team, so
enjoy the playoffs, 'win or lose'.

a new concern for defense, salo, who was healthy, but resting, suffered an injury in practice this morning,
he won't play saturday, don't know the seriousness of it,
but our defense is definitely jittery right now, with all
of the injuries.
apparantly o'brian suffered an upper body injury in last
nights game, don't know how serious it is.
Rome also suffered some sort of injury, day to day.
I don't worry about Mitchell being gone, we did just fine
now for a long time without him, lots of wins, and lots
of goal scoring, so as long as the rest of the defense
gets healthy, we will be OK, BUT ? will they be healthy.

So the number is 3, which means ovetchkin can only get 2
points, as he has to be one behind henrik, because a tie
would go to ovetchkin because of the amount of goals he has.
I'm sure henrik needed to score about 6 points tonight to
be safe, but we'll watch tomorrow morning at 9, when washington plays boston, just how fast he gets those points
he needs, then how far past the number he goes. It is so
easy for them to do it, just stack up that line with ovetchkin backstrom and semin, and they'll have it made.
