I cannot think of another time in my life when I have felt such overwhelming pride in my country and my fellow citizens. As a nation we embraced the 'power of you and I' and we believed. We surely did.

Never have I witnessed such an outpouring of pride in our country as has been shown during these Olympics. It still sends shivers down my spine and swells the cockles of my heart when I listen to audience after audience proudly and loudly singing O Canada.

I believe this has been a magnificently unifying experience for our country and I do believe the after effects will be just as positive as the gold medal results.

Way to go Canada! :canada:

I wasn't completely in favour of us hosting the Olympics in the first place, but I have to say (now that we've done it) that you are right - it has quite likely done more for Canadian unity and pride than all the legislation, speeches, and political bullsh!t that's taken place over the past 50 years.

Compared to THOSE costs, it might turn out to be the bargain of the millenium.

Canada Rocks, in SPADES!

I have always felt this way about Canada. I have not needed the olympics to bring out my patriotism or my pride in my Country.

We have definitely blossomed 'as a nation', I have never seen
so many canadian flags, painted faces, smiles, cheers,
singing oh canada, I love it.

Yeah, I am converted too, I 'get it now', we would never
have experienced this as a country if the olympics had
not been here.

It will change lots of people, and open their eyes.

Maybe we will be kinder to each other, reach out more,
gather together more, and realize 'just who' we are and
what a great country this is.

We will have lots to talk about, canada has done great
as competitors in this olympics, and we can keep improving
from now on, and be even better next time.

All those gold medals, WOW

Finally Canadians "get it".....you have been living in the shadow of a hugely populated nation smaller in size but with more people to keep it going, who have no problem in blowing their horn about how "great they are"....and you have felt uncomfortable with it - even disliked it - I'm so glad your turn has arrived!

It's catching yes? Finally Canada who deserves even more for their magnificent work on this past endeavour receives the recognition and thanks from so many who have enjoyed the beginning moments until this evening when the flames go
out on the wonderful meeting of athletes from all over the world.

There's nothing wrong on having great pride for your nation - it doesn't make anyone a better person or a snob or anything - life still goes on with all its bumps but that warm feeling of accomplishment for the hard work helps to sit back and reflect on your performances on the world stage.... revel in it.... it's good.

Don't be surprised by this "pride" thing - you've earned every big ole grin and knot in your tummy - it's called love of a nation recognized for what it is capable of accomplishing...... keep the good stuff going as long as you can...I'm so happy for all of you.

GOLD MEDAL FOR CANADA - THE WHOLE COUNTRY IS A WINNER !!!

OK now go kick butt in today's hockey match right?

Oh, Talloola, you are so right. Our country has shown the world that people can come together and celebrate excellence with open hearts and free minds. We do have pride in our country and our people and this is our time to shine and our time to be as proud as we can be. The energy started with Alex's first gold medal on home soil and simply exploded from there. We as Canadians came together to support and cheer on our athletes and they responded in true championship fashion.

WAY TO GO CANADA! WAY TO TO GO CANADIANS. I LOVE CANADA! :canada:

I have always felt this way about Canada. I have not needed the olympics to bring out my patriotism or my pride in my Country.

Then you just might have a tad more seeing the unprecedented upwelling of pride across this great land that has been on display during these games and that, Gerry, is what I am speaking to. I too have always been a proud Canadian but as I overheard on CTV today, ‘there is power in the collective experience’ and that power helped fuel the belief in the hearts and minds of Canadians from every corner of our country – no matter how large or how small that we could and would shine during these games.

Canadians are not known as flag wavers, generally. We are not known to spontaneously and gloriously sing our national anthem. These games have given us a chance to show the world that we do care deeply about our country, we do feel a pride of place in the world, and we have done so in magnificent fashion.

GO, CANADA, GO! :canada:

I agree totally. To hear the national anthem being sung during a curling game (at least twice!) was...well, unprecedented, in my opinion. A curling game...how much more Canadian can it get? Very cool.

Canada has a lot of pride in the things it does well. As FoxSports said a week ago, you can add up the passion for Football, Basketball and Baseball in the US and it still isn't a close second to the passion for hockey in Canada.

Aw shucks, Curio. (blush, blush)

Actually, we always 'got it' we just never really fully expressed 'it' before. Nor do we 'live in the shadow' of your wonderful country, rather we loom over yours, extending our hearts and hands in welcome and companionship.

The pride we express today was founded long ago in the hearts and minds of the men and women who built this country and who helped make it one of the finest nations on earth. Our pride may be quiet in nature most of the time but as you have come to see, given the opportunity it can be unleashed in displays of joy and glory that can thrill the world with its power.

I thank you for you kind words and good wishes, Curio.

This is too bad.

Marg Helgenberger: CSI vs. Cheryl Bernard: Canadian Silver medalist
Could be twins.

Quite frankly, Walter, the fact that she won Silver without taking her clothes off is much more impressive to me. Cheryl is a true champion and a lady I take my hat off too. Congratulations to Cheryl and her team of champs. You Rock Girls! :canada:

It would be FAR more impressive if she won the silver with her clothes off. Even the bronze. Heck, 5th place.
