that is the only exception, and it is special, it's like a ritual. And I actually don't remember them doing that, maybe I've just forgotton. have you
ever seen any of the teams drink in sight other than that occasion, even the pro baseball players allways have their big celebrations in their room.

they shouldn't be defended for doing it out on the ice, it
is tacky and silly and not the usual thing to do.
They weren't thinking. The media were there, obviously
they didn't think, or we wouldn't be having this conversation now.

Don’t worry about insults, critter. I am insulted many times, when somebody has nothing substantive to say, he resorts to personal insults.

Moderatos do generally take action if somebody is resorting to personal insults (I do have to report posts occasionally).

But other than that, one must have a thick skin to participate here, the weaker of the posters, those who cannot express their thoughts clearly, those who have nothing much to say, resort to insults routinely.

I did not know that. Good for them. At least they realized that they did something wrong (even if many posters here don't seem to).

If they have apologized, that will go a long way to sooth any ruffled feelings. I only hope that they have learned their lessons, that such behavior is not acceptable from the celebrities, from the role models of the society, and that they must behave in a responsible manner.

I hope in future they will confine such behavior to private occasions.

I don't like the name calling either, by anyone to anyone,
it just shows that the person can't think of anything

I do both to a certain extent (very limited) BUT which is worse? I personally think booze has the edge, just because it diminishes ones faculities to the point where a $ million dollars of damage and several lives can be taken out in a fractioin of a second. I suppose a smoker could burn the house down. Smoking screws up heart, arteries and lungs, drinking screws up brains and livers. , so I guess either side needn't be too sanctimonious.

There is a big difference between smoking and drinking, JLM. Drinking in moderation isn’t harmful to you, a drink a day may even have beneficial effects.

Smoking is bad for you form the first puff of the first cigarette, the lung damage starts right away. There is no tolerable dose of nicotine.

That is why society rightly frown upon smoking, while moderate drinking is acceptable socially. As to excess of drinking being bad for you, excess of almost anything (fatty foods, sugar, comic books etc.) is bad for you. Just because excess is bad, that is not a sufficient reason to frown on something. But smoking is in a class by itself, where it is always bad, in small amount, in moderation or in excess.

Sure it would make news. I don't approve of male celebrities smoking in public either. If anything, a male celebrity smoking in public is worse. A male celebrity may be role model to even a greater number of teenagers than a female celebrity (sexism isn't completely dead). So a male celebrity has a potential to cause a bigger damage than a female celebrity.

One drink of booze a day can be harmful, especially in older people. It's very important that all the calories we take in are nutritious calories, so if you are drinking one of two things is happening, either you are gaining weight or you are under nourished, unless of course you make a point of getting enough exercise to accommodate the extra calory consumption. As for smoking what do the statistics say about a person who smokes 3 cigarettes a day? I'll bet you they are virtually the same as the person who smokes zero. Probably much less harmful than the air you breathe in an industrial area.
