Slovakia just defeated Sweden, so canada will play

slovakia in the semi-finals. Dimetra is playing for them,

and playing better than I have seen him for years, I'll

be watching him when he gets back to the canucks, to see

to see if he can keep it up, and of course Gaborik plays on

the slovakia team as well.

There should be a gold medal for Canada in women's hockey today, and it would be nice to see a medal of any colour for ladies figureskating.

I watched most of the Canada-Russia game and if I hadn't been told otherwise I'd have thought Canada was playing against a bush league team from Upper Mongolia.

So Canada and Slovakia in the semis. Better hammer those guys early too, to make sure they don't stick around and start believing they can win.

With a CAnada U.S. match up probably imminent I have the feeling the U.S. is hoping more for a game against Slovakia or Finland.

Most of the players both on the Canadian team and the U.S. team are NHL professional's all this talk about gaining experience etc, they are experienced. We can and should get nothing less than perfection from them. This is no different than a Stanley Cup match.

Oh yeah, it's a lot different, they don't spend 30% of the game time fighting.:lol::lol:

I played hockey for quite a few years and I know that putting together a bunch of stars doesn't necessarily mean an instant winner. It takes time to get used to your line mates and know what they will do and where they will be. In 1972 there was a kind of hockey summit between Russia and Canada. We lost the first game 7 - 3. We had a bunch of NHL stars who hadn't played together and the Russians team had been together for years. Our team kept getting better and we won the series. By the eighth game we wouldn't have lost another game to the Russians.

Both the American team and the Canadian team are getting better every game they play.

From listening to the commentary during the recent games I kind of got the message that team Canada was largely comprised of lines off various N.H.L. teams. YOu have to excuse my ignorance here but in my doddering years I haven't been closely following the other 29 teams in the league, although I know who Crosby and Thornton belong to.:lol:

He was with Minnesota, but on the rangers this season, and just as good as ever,
he's been my favourite player in the league for a long
time, but has had many injuries, but not this year, yet,
better touch wood.

I like slovakia, they are a fiesty, good team, with halak
in goal, (montreal goalie), and he has stoned many a team
in the NHL and in this tournament, and he did that to 'us'
(canucks) last time we were in montreal, recently, so
we have to get lots of shots to him, and watch for rebounds,
or shots from the point that he can't see through a screen.

Yeah, they did choose some 'existing twosomes, and the
complete line from sharks,(thornton, heatley and marleau), and the team isn't totally
made up from stars, there is a nice mix of different
types of players. They took their time to balance the
team with everything that is needed to make up a good team.
Picking toews and doughty was a good and brave thing to do,
as they are so young, 20 and 21 I think, but have the qualities needed, they picked neidermeyer, much older, with
such intelligence and experience and the ability to bring
stability, and will never panic, morrow is definitely not
a star, but has such grit and tenacity and will dig deep
to make a play and is great on the boards, I mention those
players because there appearance on the team has been
questioned.
Pronger was a question mark for me, but he was fine in the
last game, but his foot speed isn't good enough any more,
but he is so big and so experienced, and intimidating, that's why he's there.
