''the attacks on Sottomayor pale in comparison to the attacks on Clerance Thomas''

Sotomayor did not engage in sexual harassment of a secretary nor did she wave an objection flag in front of anyone else. Moreover, she is not known for enjoying pornography and openly boasting about it as Thomas has done.

I think all they had on Sottomoyer was what she said in one of the speeches and what she once wrote somewhere. Republicans did not have anything else on her.

But that didn’t stop them from launching the vilest, most vicious attacks on her, they did their best at personal destruction. It was mostly the hate radio and the far right blogs who were guilty.

But they set back the relations with Hispanics by perhaps 50 years. That is why I think that long term prognosis for Republican Party is unclear, no matter what happens in the short term (2010 and 2012). Unless Republicans can overcome their revulsion of black skin, their hatred of minorities and come up with some way of attracting minorities, they are doomed in the long run. Their base, white male, is a shrinking base.

My dog sleeps about 20 hours a day. He has his food prepared for him. He can eat whenever he wants, 24/7/365. His meals are provided at no cost to him. He visits the Dr. once a year for his checkup, and again during the year if any medical needs arise. For this He pays nothing, and nothing is required of him. He lives in a nice neighborhood in a house that is much larger than He needs, but He is not required to do any upkeep. If He makes a mess, someone else cleans it up. He has his choice of luxurious places to sleep. He receives all of his accommodations absolutely free. He is living like a king, and has absolutely no expenses whatsoever. All of his costs are picked up by others who go out and earn a living every day. I was just thinking about all this, and suddenly it hit me like a brick in the head, Holy Poop, my dog is a Democrat!

Very true. Hispanics are the majority in California and will be the same in many other states. The GOP better change its tune if it hopes to survive those changes.

There are quite a few Blacks who support the Republican party. How many knew that Martin Luther King Jr. was a Republican?

National Black Republican Association

“Obama's Socialist Stake in the Heart of America” by Frances Rice demonstrates how the desire to elect our first black president caused a majority of Americans to ignore Obama’s Marxist leanings and his record as the most liberal member of the Senate – a blindness that is resulting in our nation being sacrificed on the altar of affirmative action.

“Obama – A Charming Liar?” by Frances Rice details how President Obama has deceived the American people, while surrounding himself with avowed communists, Marxists and other radicals.
“Obama's Rhetoric vs. Common Sense” by Thomas Sowell shows why the Obama administration is characterized as "hubris-laden charlatans" and Obama is described as the “Charlatan-in-Chief” whose speech to a joint session of Congress was both a masterpiece of rhetoric and a shameless fraud.

“Meet the czars: Cass Sunstein (Regulatory Czar)” by Larry Amon explains how Obama-appointee Cass Sunstein has the bizarre belief that animals should have the right to sue humans.

“Obama: 200 days, 200 Failures” - A critical analysis of the Obama Administration
“Another Failed Presidency” by Geoffrey P. Hunt

“Obama, the Mortal” by Charles Krauthammer

“Chaos for Glory – My Time With ACORN” by James O’Keefe exposes in an investigation with video how ACORN aids child prostitution.

“Obama's delayed empathy” is a Boston Globe editorial that exposes Obama’s stunning cold-hearted and awkward response to the deadly shootings at the Fort Hood Army Base in Texas.

Don't any of you republicans and democrats see that both are shouting the same BS at each other all the time? You can interchange anyone from the Bush admin to any of the articles about Obama. Dems and Reps are all the same. It is all the politics of division. You both have the same political views and use the same rhetoric. But because you chose one title over another, you divide your power, which is what your ruling class wants. Do you not understand the concept of divide and conquer? That is what is going on and you are blinded by your own rhetoric.

You may be right, Cliffy. But what else is there to US politics, except Republicans and Democrats?

Sure there are black Republicans, ironsides. Let us do some back of the envelope calculations.

Let us say 10% of US population is black, which makes it about 30 million blacks. Opinion polls indicate that 97% of blacks support Obama, that means 3% blacks do not support him. That means there are roughly 1 million blacks who do not support Obama.

So what is your point? Sure, 1 million blacks may be Republican, but if 29 million of them are Democrats, can Republicans really be said to have made any significant inroad into black population?

If the split is indeed 29 million to 1 million, it can safely be said that most blacks do not like Republicans, that Republican Party has a big problem as far as black voters are concerned.

It just proves to me that my hypothesis is correct: politics is just a movie they play to entertain us while they go about doing whatever the hell they please.

You may be right, but humankind has yet to invent a better system of government. All other systems are even worse.

It only looks good on paper. In practice it is no different than any other dictatorship. The only real difference I see is the propaganda and brainwashing machines are much more sophisticated.

I can well believe that, ironsides. In the days of Jim Crow and George Wallace (and Strom Thurmond) most of the Southern white racists resided in the Democratic Party, so I can well see MLK embracing the Republicans.

In those days Democrats had a lock on Dixie, most of the politicians from the South were Democrats, and most of them were white racists. Indeed, it used to be said that Texas will never have enough Republicans to hold a primary (these days it can safely be said that Texas will never have enough Democrats to hold a primary).

It all changed when Nixon adopted Southern strategy. He realized that southern Democrats share the same racist, anti-black views which are the mainstay of the Republican Party, but they vote Democratic simply out of habit, since the days of the Civil War.

Well, Nixon set about curing them of the habit and he succeeded in spades. Over the years most of the southern racists migrated over to the Republican Party (and most blacks abandoned the Republican Party), so that today it is the Republican Party that is racist, that is regarded with suspicion and hostility by blacks.

Nixon’s southern strategy seemed like a brilliant masterstroke at the time, and it won Republicans many elections. But now that white population will soon be a minority, southern strategy is an albatross around the neck of the Republican Party. These days Republican Party is considered to be racist by most minorities and unless they can find some way to reverse the perception, they are doomed in the long run.

They both are corporations (Dem.-Rep), big business. Should be traded on the NY Stock Exchange. But they are all we have at the moment. As for being such a badly run goverment, there sure are a lot of people in the world trying to get a piece of it. SJP is absolutely right, there is no better system available to mankind.

Nor did Thomas. It was just heresay from one woman and none was proven. The Liberals dragged an African American woman to assist in their failed lynching of an African-American because he refused to kneel and pay hommage to the Liberals and Democrats.

A Liberal columnist here in Boston, Margery Eagan said that Liberals all "love little black children" until they want to build a school in their neighborhood referring to the Liberals in Cambridge Mass successfully stopping a school for African American youths being built in the middle of Harvard Square years ago.

I think I have mentioned this before, one black leader succinctly summed up the attitude of Southerners and Northerners towards blacks. He said

“In the South, they don’t care now near you go to them, as long as you don’t consider yourself to be their equal. In the North, they don’t care if you consider yourself to be their equal, as long as you don’t go near them.”

I cannot speak for the south but that is pretty accurate for the north, particularly in the Ultra Liberal state of Massachusetts.

Forced Bussing in Boston was a prime example. A Liberal Judge from the lilly white liberal wealthy town of Wellsely thought it was time to integrate Boston schools. So they took African American kids from the poor African American neighborhoods, and bussed them to poor white neighborhoods, and took poor white kids and bussed them to poor African American neighborhoods.

And the Liberals were SHOCKED at all the fighting and rioting taking place all of a sudden in all of the Boston schools.
