Continuously lose election after election? They have only recently lost the house a few years ago and just recently the presidency.

Indeed EagleSmack. Republicans suffered two huge losses one after the other, an almost unheard of feat.

Normally when a party wins a huge victory, there is inevitably some pull back two years later. Thus when Reagan won a huge victory in 1980, Republicans lost 27 seats in the House in 1982. This in spite of the fact that Reagan was still enormously popular. Same in 1996. After Republicans won a huge victory in 1994, they lost a number of seats in the House in 1996, they came close to losing the House.

Contrast this with 2008. After suffering a humiliating, crushing defeat in 2006 (where they lost control of the Senate against all expectations), Republicans suffered even a bigger defeat in 2008. Where Democratic control of the Senate was precarious (51:49), in 2008 Democratic control became absolute, with filibuster proof majority (60:40).

So yes, the Republican defeat in 2006 and 2008 was unprecedented in US history. Bush did to your party what Mulroney did to the PC party here in Canada. He crushed the spirit of your party.

I do have to say it is enjoyable seeing the Democrats flounder and try to bring back the old arguments. The ones they used to use when they were out of power. Now they have no clue on how to run the country and the people of the US are starting to notice and we are only 6 months into it!

For the first time I agree with you, EagleSmack. It is not about Republicans any more ,it is about Democrats. They will implement their agenda. If people like it, they will keep Democrats in power, if they don’t they will put Republicans back in.

Don’t count Sanford out just yet, Gopher. Republicans base is not bothered about hypocrisy, they don’t even understand the concept (as may be clear to you by what some of the far right posters said in this very thread).

Look at Gingrich, the biggest hypocrite of them all. He was ranting and raving against Clinton for having sex with his intern, while Gingrich himself was doing practically the same thing (with his wife ill in the hospital). However, Gingrich is more popular than ever with the base, he is a front runner for 2012 nomination.

So don’t be surprised if Sanford is also a front runner for 2012 nomination. Personally, I am looking forward to Palin – Sanford ticket in 2012. Obama will eat them for lunch.

The decision was expected, EagleSmack, all the lower courts ruled in favor of Franken, Coleman did not win a single victory in the courts. So it would have been very surprising if the Supreme Court had ruled differently.

This is totally unlike 2000. There Florida Supreme Court had ordered a recount. The US Supreme Court, in a rank, disgusting display of political partisanship, voted by 5 to 4 vote to overrule the Florida Supreme Court and award the presidency to their buddy, Bush.

The Republicans on the US Supreme Court are forever bleating about states’ rights. However, when it came to awarding presidency to their buddy, Bush, all the talk of states’ rights went right out the window.

But I suppose it all worked out in the end, Bush practically destroyed the Republican Party. So the ill gotton victory did not do Republicans much good.
