Private schools MUST BE superior to public schools.

Name one single elected official who does NOT send their kids to private school.

That's ridiculous.

Here's a point for you: do a google search on the Irving family of Saint John. Some of the Irving kids go to the same elementary school as my youngest daughter does.

Don't you think that a multibillionaire would send his kids to his sister-in-law's private school if he thought a private school was so superior?

Oh... another reason I really like the school that we're in...

I can walk into that school and take my kids out for a week, for a month, whatever I need, with no griping about school work etc., because FAMILY IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN COURSE WORK. They'll still do their best to support me with some work at home, etc., or to catch the kids up when we get back, but there is no complaining if there is something going on in the family that is interfering with their attendance or the completion of their homework, etc.

Some private or separate schools will not hold that kind of attitude. It's all about scoring superior grades.

So my tale and preaching continues... find the school that fits your kids, public, private, separate, and put them in it. Ignore the statistics, because they only apply to the grand scheme, and do what's best for YOUR kid.
Right on, Karrie. It's all about the kids. :D

It seems that students from private schools tend to score higher on provincial exams - could have something to do with student teacher ratios.

The reason for this is what I am claiming and offering evidence of: it is the socioeconomic status of the students that accounts for this.

I agree Niflmir, private schools can pick and choose who they let in. They let in only the best and the brightest from all the applications they receive. Public schools must let everybody in, regardless of their background. So it is hardly far to compare the two.

I can recall an analogous situation. Asians in North America tend to be upper middle class professionals, with average income higher than that of whites. Their children often excel in school; in competitions etc. (the latest spelling bee champion is an Asian girl).

Is that because Asians are more intelligent than whites (or blacks)? Not really, the immigration policies of USA and Canada admitted only the professional, the cream of the crop from places like India and Pakistan. So naturally they would score higher compared to whites. You are comparing cream of the crop of Asian society with the entire white society.
roflmao Yeah, the CIC is a joke and besides that, it couldn't possibly be because those Asians were simply more diligent about learning and working than most "whites". You crack me up sometimes.

What are you trying to do Y.J.? People will start pulling their kids out of private by the bushel when they hear that bit of news. Does the mafia send their kids to private schools too?

I had to wear a uniform at times. If anything, it enhances our deeper differences. Since a student can't wear different clothes, we become more distinguishable by our character. I had to wear a school uiform at tiemes. Do I seem like a party hack?

I think they are smart and efficient, and the character of each student will be
come out, irrespective of what they wear, but some 'bimbo' teenager, at least
will have to keep her thong hidden, and her breasts where breasts belong, and
not up under her chin.
And the guys will have to keep their 'butt crack' to themselves.

That's quite prude.

And yet somehow she'll be ten times more lusted after by men of all ages in that school uniform, than in her previous revealing attire.

You only think that because you are not a man. Men get turned on by just about any attribute of a woman. I've fallen in lust with a woman's hands. Testosterone is a terrible task master. You have no idea the depraved things it makes men do!8O

That answer just shows how used to sleeziness our society has become.
I am very conservative, but also open minded as well.
And Kerry is quite right, the sexes will always lust after each other, that
was not my point, the point is, have respect for yourself, when putting your
body out in the public, and even the guys, (as I've been told), would much
rather lust after a clean, well groomed female, rather than one who is
hanging it all out 'advertising', that is a sad sight.
They will joke and stare and make comments, but when the decision is made
to get together, a different story, unless the guy is a sleeze ball too.

the sexes lusting after each other is normal, has always happened and always
will.
Back to the point, I like school uniforms, and whatever students want to wear,
for whatever point they are trying to make, should be done 'out' of school.

Good for you Talloola- schools aren't the place for exotic fashion statements.

Private schools typically have a lower student teacher ratio, so students that are sometimes left in the dust in the public school actually have an opportunity to learn in a private school. If the public school is in Canada, and the private school is in, say, Switzerland, then the private school has numerous advantages. Instead of learning about Rome in a book, students visit Rome - authentic learning. That is a distinct advantage of private schools. If the private school is down the street from the public school in Canadatown, there only difference can be seen in student performance. It seems that students from private schools tend to score higher on provincial exams - could have something to do with student teacher ratios.

To send your child abroad, you need money. And also, it sisks causing serious damage to parent child relationships in future.

And of course though private schools generally are better-funded, that's not a guarantee.

Nope, our school uniforms didn't look like that at all. Bear in mind though that uniformspermeate our society. Look at any profession, and they all dress more or less the same. Nearly all businessmen, even independent ones, will choose to wear suits if they know what's good for them businesswise. And if they don't, they're probably artists. And then all the artists tend to dress within a certain norm among themselves too. Board a plane, and the pilots wear their uniforms, the cabin servershave theirs, etc.

Every other profession has its uniforms; are they all Nazis for it?

Guess you missed the "lol" part before I posted the pics. And the two posts afterwards, 1 by me and the other by Talloolla, mentioning my joking.
