I found the OP rather silly. If anything, the Brits had the most barbaric of all Empires, in a civilized kinda way. They conquered more territory and people than just about anybody in history. But like their royal family, none of their shyte stinks. If it wasn't for Monty Python, I would have completely written off the Brits a long time ago - arrogant little pecker heads!

Oops! I am one of them. Crap!

But...places that they have colonized have generally had peace and many of the commonwealth countries have done and are doing well. I'll take Canada over the US any day... Austalia over Brazil... The Bahamas over the Dominican Republic.

As for the natives, I doubt that more than a handful would want things as they were. It's part of the victim culture that is becoming so prevalent. I pity people that focus too much on the past at the expense of a bright and promising future.

Have you polled any aboriginal peoples in those countries about their opinion. Although the Spanish were probably more brutal, the Brits inflicted plenty of casualties.

Hard to say who were more brutal. The Brits did have their moments. There is info in history books about the English drawing and quartering people, burning them, disembowelling them, etc. all while still alive

Ya! I really felt sorry for Mel Gibson.8O

Civilized barbarians they were. I see the US has taken up the tradition where the Brits left off.

Not personally. I couldn't be bothered

No doubt. So did the Romans. So did the Assyrians. So did the Austrians. So did the Belgians. So did the Japanese. So did pretty much every empire that ever existed. Most of the petty squabbles the world has today is because people can't get over the past.

So, is that why you keep squabbling on here?:-?
