The irony here is awesome! If the pharmaceutical companies organized some astroturf outrage over more federal regulations in their industry, the conspiracists would be all over that. But when the Natural Health community gets upset that somebody wants to make sure they're selling legit...

Deeper and deeper you don't get do you? If you look a little harder you'll discover that the somebody you mention is the Crap Masters. When has one of the biggest corporate lobbys on the planet (big pharma) not been organized and outraged about virtually any regulation that cuts thier profits,or curbs thier sleeze, even if it kills en-mass as it frequently does. Should I provide you with some links to the seven-hundred and fifty-three million documented cases of thier lethal deeds? For your information Tonnington there is no problem with herbals even remotely approaching the human destruction by big pharma, your friends, who you don't want to see inconvienienced.

Here's the people you defend----------
Merck Creates Fake Academic Medical Journal

"The Scientist has reported that, yes, it's true, Merck cooked up a phony, but real sounding, peer reviewed journal and published favorably looking data for its products in them. Merck paid Elsevier to publish such a tome, which neither appears in MEDLINE or has a website, according to The Scientist.
"What's wrong with this is so obvious it doesn't have to be argued for. What's sad is that I'm sure many a primary care physician was given literature from Merck that said, 'As published in Australasian Journal of Bone and Joint Medicine, Fosamax outperforms all other medications....' Said doctor, or even the average researcher wouldn't know that the journal is bogus. In fact, knowing that the journal is published by

They'll help you get well but it will kill you. When will the scientific community discover some ethics?

So I finally found the vids and watched them.
I am notr trying to stick up for the evil rulers that come up with this C-6/C-52, but this guy sounds like we will all be having police and health inspectors breaking down our doors and rummaging through our homes every couple weeks. If he is correct, however, the gov't in perpetrating all these nasty searches for ugly products, will be laying itself open to lots of civil suits for a myriad of things unless they can show an offense.

Well I agree mostly but we do hear stories of missing and trampled rights these days in addition to suspension of same on security grounds so I maintain that in very real terms that is precisly the direction our little boat is blowing.
When the state police can murder a man in public with clearly lethal weaponized electric devices and are digitized doing so but shamelessly lie under oath in front of those whom they have sworn to serve and protect, I wouldn't worry too awfull much about civil suits curbing anything.

Well, the civil suits haven't started about Mr. D. yet, so I'll wait to comment on that. At this point in time, it looks as if a lot of people are a bit miffed about how the whole procedure has gone so far, too.
Anyway, assuming that the gov'ts encroach too far into what we like, there is always rebellion. :D

I believe conspiracies are possible. I'd just like to see some reasonable evidence of one before I jump on the band wagon.

You are the product of a natural conspiracy complete with sex, secret meetings, secrets, lies, passion of all kinds but you don't believe, a mirror wouldn't tell you much would it?

Yes Cannuck, I'm well aware of what your criterion for "credible" is, i.e., anything that comes from a website which supports your preconceived prejudices, and so this is a topic wasted on you.

But please don't let that stop you from ranting like a childish little twerp.

I have no preconceived prejudices.
Technically that would have been somewhere in your past, once you started to get information about the matter you began to form an opinion. Once some opinion has been formed further study will either support or conflict with each other. Once you have sorted all that out you have preconceived prejudices, which is not a bad thing if it can withstand all other 'new facts' that can pop up occasionally. Then you have a winner, if not you learn something new.
As it is, some can see it that way and be correct about that part of it, that doesn't make your opinion wrong, only more facts can do that.

I don't see any reason to fear for my freedoms because of this law. Do you have anything to add to the stuff you posted from elsewhere?

The proposed legislation fixes a problem. Under our laws, if a product comes along that does not fit the laws that are already on the books for prohibited or regulated products, then it is up to the producers of these products to monitor the health and safety of these products. This law is simply expanding existing legislation, the Hazardous Products Act.

I'm not defending them. Don't put words in my mouth. I find this situation ironic.

Maybe you're fine with allowing industry to police itself (think Listeriosis), but I think that's a bad idea 100% of the time.

(NaturalNews) A new law being pushed in Canada by Big Pharma seeks to outlaw up to 60 percent or more of natural health products currently sold in Canada, even while criminalizing parents who give herbs or supplements to their children. The law, known as C-6 & C-52, replaced C-51 that was introduced by the Canadian Minister of Health on April 8th, 2008, and it proposes sweeping changes to Canada's Food and Drugs Act that could have devastating consequences on the health products industry. The bill died because of an election.

Among the changes proposed by the bill are radical alterations to key terminology, including replacing the word "drug" with "therapeutic product" throughout the Act, thereby giving the Canadian government broad-reaching powers to regulate the sale of all herbs, vitamins, supplements and other items. With this single language change, anything that is "therapeutic" automatically falls under the Food and Drug Act. This would include bottled water, blueberries, dandelion greens and essentially all plant-derived substances.

The Act also changes the definition of the word "sell" to include anyone who gives such therapeutic products to someone else. So a mother giving an herb to her child, under the proposed new language, could be arrested for engaging in the sale of unregulated, unapproved "therapeutic substances." I like the references to the 'health products industry'....

Any idiot can bring out something based on 'natural' ingredients, which can be devastating to people's health, but when the government tries to make them live up to the same standards as other pharmaceuticals, then it's a 'conspiracy' by 'big pharma'.

Sure, and those 'natural' diet aids don't cause kidney failure, so they shouldn't be pulled off the shelf. After all, that's not 'big pharma', so it must be safe.

Frankly, maybe you should read some more, and build your own opinions rather than relying on others to tell you what is going on.

Here's a hypothetical situation.

My company sells a product called Plastidpower tablets. It's basically a product derived from algal organelles. We market this product as a therapy for everything from protection against UV to cancer prevention. Under this new law, now my company must justify the claims we make, there must be rigorous testing to make sure the product is safe, and there must be controls to ensure that customers are getting what they are paying for.

Before the law came about, I could sell my product to health food stores around the country. They didn't know, and hence didn't care that I was buying my product from a lower quality manufacturer in southeast Asia, rather than a high quality manufacturer. They didn't know that the therapy they were purchasing contained unacceptable levels of heavy metals. It turns out the plants they harvested to extract the plastids grew on contaminated soils, and thus the customers were ingesting this unintentional bioremediated crap.

Kiss your freedoms good bye? I don't think so.

Bottled water is not a therapy. Blueberries are not a therapy. Unless you sell them as one, and customers should be protected from snake oil salesman who pass off these products as therapies.
