Cobalt Kid, Harper has one of the most sophisticated poll gathering systems that probably helps him decide what to think or say in order to inch his way to that majority he covets. He probably was getting informed that he was going to lose against reality with many of his previous decisions/delusions so that is why he keeps singing a different tune, actually many different contradicting tunes all at once in an attempt to insulate him from the failures that he pretends he doesn't own. Afghanistan just being one of them.

In fact perhaps the reason Taliban Harper doesn't resort to attack ads against Taliban Layton is maybe Harper wants to keep Layton around so he'll know what decisions to make in the future. Layton of course wont get credit for coming up with Harper's policies prior to Harper making confidence motions out of all of them. No, Harper doesn't share the spotlight with anyone but Harper.

First of all, Harper did not say the fight in Afghanistan was useless, nor did he say NATO should withdraw.....he merely indicated that the fight to keep Afghanistan out of the clutches of Islamofascism will be on-going.........be it us or the rebuilt Afghan Army doing the fighting. Insurgencies may be repressed, but they don't usually disappear, no matter what happens, or what deals are made....witness recent events in Northern Ireland.....oh, BTW, the Taliban are remain "murdering scumbags"....

As for Green with Obama.....he is merely acting in the nation's best interests....Obama is green, we sell our oil to Obama.....

As for the Liberal budget, a gross miscalculation on the part of Harper. He should have let the Libs have the damn gov't....let them wear the blame for the recession (although obviously NEITHER is at fault in that regard), let them try to run everything under Dion while paying off the Seditious Party of Canada for 18 months........and then taken an EASY majority in the next election....but I'm not his political tactician. Instead, he is giving the Liberals everything they want.....against his better judgement.

I think Harper is a decent man, relatively speaking, although deeply flawed (as we all are) he is an absolute saint compared to Jean Chretien, or Lyin Brian, or Pierre Trudeau for that matter.

The unfortunate thing is Harper is the best PM we've had since Louis St Laurent. Sigh.

That's bad.

I'll go way out on a limb and say Harpers the best PM we've had since Martin. Crazy huh!!!!

Politicians are all the same. The Country and the World is really to complicated for any one person to be in control or have a profound round knowledge of all aspects of it. They have to surround themselves with individuals that are experts in the many different fields of concern and trust those people to give good advice on the current issues and forewarn them of any possible future isses that may arise. These poeople also have to know when an issue is going to get out of hand and be able to warn the politician. This in older times was the general publics job. Then the elected rep's job. But things have become so complicated, and people so self serving none can be trusted. Harpers forti was economics. Now, like almost all other politicians it is public ralations (how to get elected.) I have heard that he tries hard to run the whole show himself, this is a good sign that he understands human nature to be self serving, and he keeps advisors to a minimum.

I think that he might just have too much of a load on his shoulders at times and this would be true for anyone. Unfortunately for us, by the time figures out how to handle it and gets the right crew he can trust al the way, it will be time for him to go and Canada will have to put up with another leader.

Maybe we should not be judging the man when we elect them, but judging the people that will make his inner circle instead.
