Don't know if anyone on here is particular interested in this info but here it is
anyway, I'm sure happy about it.
Jim Rome show has been cancelled on team 1040 from 9am til 12 noon, and from
now on the Blake Price/Dave Tomlinson show (which is usually in the evening), will
take his place, with much more local content, I enjoy their show very much, and
especially the canuck chats and news.
For me, Jim Rome is very irritating, so arrogant and strictly there to entertain and
talk about u.s. sports in particular, and almost nothing about canadian sports at all, it is about trash talking and gossip and yes, football and basketball, which is
fine for those who enjoy those sports. I like CFL, he doesn't even acknowledge
our own game, and I can take or leave the basketball, just like the last 2
minutes in any game.

Grabner had one practice with the canucks, they decided that dimitra is well enough to play tomorrow, so they sent grabner back to manitoba, I am so
dissapointed, just wanted to see how he played on the big team, oh well.

LOL! I remember the time Rome was tackled by his guest. Jim Kelly I believe? Served him right! Well, I guess people got sick of listening to him. No great loss in my eyes.

The best hockey interview I've heard in a long time was Rome and Modano, and they talked a lot about the intensity of playing in Canadian cities. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Having said that most of us up here aren't interested in US college sports. And where he ruins his show is by inviting idiots with scripts to phone in. I couldn't give a hoot what no-life Joe in Arkansas has written and I care even less to hear him read it back.

A couple of years ago I listened to Rome do an interview with Don Cherry, it
was the best I've every Cherry, guess he was trying impress the u.s. listeners,
and I do realize that his HNC show is for entertainment purposes, but some
of his remarks are ludicrous.
From time to time Rome does have a hockey interview, I've heard a couple, but
they are so few and far between, I'm sure not going to listen to his garbage
in between.
I'm the same about no-life Joe in Arkansas, and the rest of his rehersed trash
talking guests with their scripts, then he has a champion trash talker, so that
really fans them on to do it more. I guess it's called a 'trash off'.

Feb 27, 2009, 2:12 PM EST the flyers had to put this player, plus another one on
waivers, so they could get under the cap enough, to
bring back Briere from the 'injury' list. Gillis snapped vaananen up quickly.

When your last name is Vaananen and you were born in Vantaa, Finland, it only seems natural that at some point you’d wind up as a member of the Vancouver Canucks.

That’s exactly what has happened for defenseman Ossi Vaananen who was claimed off waivers by the Canucks from the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday morning.

The 28-year-old blueliner in on his way back to the National Hockey League’s Western Conference after starting his career in Phoenix – he was the Coyotes’ 2nd round pick in 1998 -- before being dealt to the Colorado Avalanche a few years later.

He spent last season playing for Djurgardens in the Swedish Elite League and then returned to the NHL signing a one-year contract with Philadelphia last summer.

played in 46 games for the Flyers this year scoring once and adding nine assists while posting a +7 in the plus/minus category. The left-handed shooter clocked a season (and career) high logging 25:48 of ice time in a Flyers 2-1 overtime victory in Carolina in early December, but recently had had trouble cracking the club’s line-up and on Thursday was placed on waivers.

Vaananen is big – 6’4 and 215 pounds – and when he’s on his game is a physical defenseman who was fourth on the Flyers and second among the team’s defensemen recording 85 hits so far this season.

That total is one more than both Kevin Bieksa and Mattias Ohlund have to lead Canuck blueliners in that department. Vaananen has also blocked 75 shots this season.

In 467 career NHL games, Vaananen has 13 goals, 67 points, is +25 and he has racked up 482 penalty minutes. On top of that, he has also skated in 17 career playoff games reaching the second-round with Colorado in the spring of 2004 but hasn’t been to the post-season since 2006.

Two of his connections to the Canucks are assistant coach Rick Bowness who coached in Phoenix and assistant general manager Laurence Gilman who held that same post in the desert early in Vaananen’s career. Both would have seen Vaananen as a young defenseman who showed great promise earning the opportunity to play for Finland at the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City and the World Cup in 2004.

In between those international

Have to correct my idea concerning what might happen to Matias Ohlund by trade
deadline, as I didn't realize, that he does have a 'no trade' clause in his contract,
and Mike Gillis stated that he will not approach any player who has 'that' clause
and ask them to waive it, BUT if other teams approach him inquiring about a
player with the ntc, he will inform the player and let them make the decision
if they want to waive it or not.
It seems that Matias Ohlund is satisfied to play out the season, then go to free
agency, and he has resigned himself to the idea, that he might leave the canucks
at the end of this season, he stated that on team 1040 the other day.

I have to totally agree with Tom Larsheid tonight after the game, he said "At the
end of the season these things usually all even out", and that is probably quite true,
as we have lost a few games this year that we should have won, this definitely
isn't one of them, just the opposite.
Alex Edler played great, and so did Keven Bieksa, the rest of the team was a mish
mash of effort and clumsiness. Luongo played great, just about gave up a goal
late in the game, but it didn't happen.
Our defence was OK, except Ohlund, who seemed to have brain freeze at times.
Salo's skate saved the win with a few seconds to go.
There was lots of effort in this game, no laziness, but no finess, lots of sloppiness.
I didn't like the way sundin played, but we can say that for many players on the
team. Dimitra had lots of hustle and effort, but couldn't complete a pass if his
life depended on it.
Wellwood was horrible, except for the one move where he swept the puck away
to save a probable goal.

Tampa Bay doesn't have a very good reputation this season, but you know, you
don't play a reputation you play the team, so those reputation stories mean nothing when the puck is dropped.
And you know, tampa bay is very strong on the offence, it's their defence that is struggling all year, but not tonight.

The first game back from a big road trip often isn't pretty, and this one definitely fits into that story, so we'll take the 2 points, which we need badly, and walk
away and not look back.

We play Columbus on sunday, I'm sure they will play better against them, they
will be up for the game, just as they are against calgary, the points are crucial,
as we are tied with them in the standings, so I am looking forward to a very
entertaining game. And don't forget about Steve Mason, who is hot in the running
for the calder trophy this season (best rookie), he stops everything and more,
and the canucks know that more than anyone.

We won the game, there isn't much more to be said, it all looks good on paper,
and keeps us in good position in the standings.

I don't agree that we played bad in montreal, montreal played bad, and their
goalie was outstanding, if we had of won that game, everyone would have been
happy with the number of shots we had, and the win.

Dimitra got 2 assists, but it wasn't that line that contributed, it was dimitra
on a power play.

That is the thing about Columbus. It is hard to say what team you will face on any given night. You can almost guarantee that Mason will have a great night(he has the odd "bad" night), but it depends on how their offense will do. They could be a wild-card in the playoffs this year if they make it in.

yeah, they are not deep in scorers, have to contain Nash thats for sure, but we
have good defence and goalkeeping, the biggest problem in my opinion is getting the puck past mason.

Detroit got absolutely hammered by Nashville! They lost 8-0!8O:lol:

Toronto won again in overtime, 4-3 over Ottawa(yay!). Montreal beat San Jose 3-2, but Halak won that game for them, as San Jose had 48 shots on net.

Kovalchuk had 2 goals and 3 assists as Atlanta came from behind to beat Carolina 5-4. Carolina sure stinks right now.

Washington beat Boston in OT today, and they won it by a really horrible goal to give up. Semin scored the winner from over the blue line, a shot that Thomas should have had. I'm glad he missed it though, as I have Semin in my pool.;-)

The Rangers finally won. They beat Colorado 6-1(Colorado is another horrible team this year).

Buffalo got humbled by the Islanders 2-0. Buffalo has fallen apart with the losses of both Vanek and Miller. They better wake up soon or they may miss the playoffs.

I sure would love to have kovalchuk on the canucks, dream on I guess.

I saw that overtime goal, 20 some odd seconds into overtime, after a barn burner
which was an excellent game, he shot from between the red and blue line, and scored, thomas couldn't get off the ice fast enough, sprinted to the dressingroom. All the excellent saves he made throughout the game, then let
in a stinker like that, too bad.

The Rangers finally won. They beat Colorado 6-1(Colorado is another horrible team this year).

Yeah, I hope rangers aren't measuring their big comeback by this win, as you say colordo have been horrible.

I see Ethan Moreau got a stick in the eye tonight, he is at the hospital as we
speak, seems serious, hope he's going to be OK.

I'm sure looking forward to wednesday, trade deadline, probably will be lots
of activity from now till then.

I was just glad to see Edmonton beat Minnesota. I was really surprised at the thumping Detroit took from Nashville. YOu just can't take any meaning from anything in hockey. Vancouver went from losing 8 straight to about the best record in the league in 2 weeks................who has the answer to that............Talloola?????????????????????

I'll check my chrystal ball.;-) nine out of the fifteen times detroit has played IN nashville, it has been the second of back to back games, and detroit is an older team, so I would
think that factor played a part in the game.

7 p.m. tonight

The Canucks may not have a win against the Blue Jackets this season, but it hasn’t been for a lack of trying – especially not on the part of Kevin Bieksa. The 6’0”, 205 lbs. rearguard, who leads all team defencemen in goals (10) and points (33), leads all of his teammates in points against Columbus this season with four (3-1-4) and has scored in each of the previous three games of the season series to date. The 27-year old will be looking to make it a perfect four-for-four when he leads his squad into a crucial playoff positioning battle tonight.

The Grimsby, Ontario-native is on pace for another career season, coming into tonight’s game just two goals shy of matching a career-high for goals and nine points shy of tying a career-high total for points. He’ll be hoping to inch closer towards those two milestone markers playing a team he has had quite a bit of offensive success against in the past. In 12 career games versus Columbus, Bieksa has recorded 10 points (5-5-10) and 24 penalty minutes
