So, why is it that all the focus is on this ONE principal? When I can almost guarantee that schools all throughout ALL of your hometowns have made this exact same decision, why does ONE principal get all the scorn over it?

Good point. With all the 'leftie' rhetoric, it would seem that if anything that local community is probably more conservative than most. My father was in the military, so I'd gone to elementary and secondary schools in Ottawa, Victoria and Nanaimo. And some of these schools had a high ratio of military brats like myself. I'd never atended a school where the national anthem was compulsory.

So again, this school seems to have held against the tide the longest. So with everyone calling it leftie, I'd have to say that school is quite conservative to other schools around the country by comparison.

May I just rephrase what you said below:

I fully agree. Bunch of ingrates. As far as I'm concerned, patriotism is to be measured by how often you sing the anthem. Some schools sing it on special occasions. They should all be closed down, shame on them. Some sing it every day, still a lackluster attempt. At the school I went to, we had to sing it every hour on the hour. Anything less just shows the ultimate disrespect for the country. Bunch of ingrates today:p

No, it's very simple, just sing it, and be happy you are a 'free' canadian, none
of the other sarcasm is necessary, or the refusal to sing it at all.

Because some media person, or whomever, decided to make it public, and now
it is on this board for all of us to comment about, and we have opinions.

Tell me this dude dosen't look like a pot smoking liberal. Problem with many liberals is they always try to do the thinking for others because their way is the best way....so they think anyways.

I have an idea, the first prick who doesn't want to hear our national anthem we build a giant catapult and fling back where they came from.:angryfire:

build a giant catapult and fling back where they came from.....

Oshawa?? Cruel and unusual punishment!!! They may land in the lake

Journalism has really deteriorated. Discontinuation is not really the same as banning it. Why does everyone have such a quick reaction for pointing fingers?

'Cause they don't know English. Look up 'ban' and 'discontinue' in a dictionary. Big difference. That just shows the quality of language education in Canada today.

I'm happy to see we have true Canadians here. We now have 14 who voted 'always play the anthem'. Even better. Just have go on re-play all day long, non-stop.

It's just another symptom showing signs of the degradation of whatever Canadian identity there is left. lol The idiocies of politics has been eroding it for decades, IMO. The ROC should f**k Ottawa like it's been f**king us since day 1. Perhaps we could stay together as one country, but IMO, we could be a group of autonomous regions with no central BS attached .... and have a separate group that act as a liaison to deal with other countries on our behalf but who have no jurisdiction over internal affairs.

Schools are a provincial matter, not federal. The federal has little say in this.

....and backwards and Wednesdays

I tried your suggestion to play it backwards. Now, I do not wish to sound alarmist, but there are satanic phrases imbedded in the lyrics. May I illustrate?

Apparently you have forgotten that the provinces are parts of Canada. The feds have been showing favoritism among the provinces since day 1. That is alienating the ROC and eroding Canadian identity in the people that live in the ROC. IOW, it's a symptom; an indication of an attitude. Want a picture?

Lets be realistic here.

It takes a few minutes every morning, and its a good indicator when people are late.

Rather than going "oh, its inconvenient for when people are late" how about "its a good way to show what people are late"

Being late isn't a character trait, its a character flaw and its one thing schools should teach people to overcome so they can succeed in life. Reading, Writing and Math don't really do much good if you are just going to sit on welfare your whole life anyways since you can get your ass to work on time.

How about the fact that it instills civic pride, and a feeling of patriotism, which leads to better adherance to the laws.

We sing the anthem at hockey games, we can spend the damn 2 minutes to start the morning singing the anthem.

Hell, why bother teaching them anything, lets forget history class. What good is knowing the nations history if you don't really care about the nation anyways?

Yes, I always thought Ottawa loved Saskatchewan best! They got hospitalization and medicare first. They had honest government under Tommy. They have tens of thousands of lakes, all better than those in Alberta (no squishy bottoms!). Their roads are straight. And, they speak without an accent. Favouritism? Do I have to paint a picture?
