Well anyone with a brain knew the West would not go to War over the Ukraine.

By the time they get all their forces in place they'll all be broke and dependent on Russian and Chinese currencies. They don't have air superiority and they won't ever have air superiority. The IMF is there anyway there'll be nothing to save except starving farmers and everybody has them.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said his government will act to increase the presence of NATO forces “step by step” and that the speed of NATO’s force build-up in Poland “could have been greater.”
As I've mentioned Poland is ready to go to war.

Russia is on the downturn as an economy. The Chinese are waiting for Siberia.

I guess you believe the news then. Downturns are rampant globally, the west is turning down faster than any other region, it's a race to the bottom and beyond for some, get into Rubles. The west is just about hollow Goober. A few bank runs will tip it over the edge.

Oh we are headed for a massive world wide depression followed by a big ugly war.

As I mentioned NATO is moving units into the front line states.
Appears Russia does not like that.
WTF did they think would happen.

BBC News - Nato's Eastern Europe build-up plans alarm Russia
Moscow is pressing Nato to explain its plans to enhance its military presence in Eastern Europe, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said.

"We not only expect answers, but answers... based fully on respect for the rules we agreed on," he said.

But Nato Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen denied the alliance had broken an agreement with Moscow.

He also accused Russia of "violating every international commitment it has made" by annexing Crimea.

Nato has said it will continue to carry out "collective defence" to protect member states and it has reinforced defences in Eastern Europe.

The alliance has also halted all civilian and military co-operation with Russia.

The Nato chief said he had not received any questions from Moscow and called Russian accusations about the alliance's actions "propaganda and disinformation".

In response, Russia has recalled its top military representative at Nato in Brussels for "consultations" in Moscow.

So that would make it fear and good judgment as being what is holding the US back. You say it like it is a bad thing for the US.

If it is right for the western Ukraine to look to the West, the principle of self determination applies to the eastern regions as well. The Russians have a strategic interest in the Crimea; it is also history and the wishes of the residents of the peninsula. And encirclement and threats never leads to peaceful resolution,
No war would be contained. Where would it be fought?

Reason why Putin wants more autonomy for Ukraine.
The principles you mention are the same ones Kosovo used and I recall we both knew that was wrong and we both strongly disagreed. We are bearing the fruits of that dumba-s-s decision.
Has your opinion changed on Kosovo?

But to answer your question- No
It would be for the govt of the day to decide.
There will not be any war with Russia.
Now Russia is quite concerned about their Far East.
The Stans are concerned that Russia will use the so called Russian "Crimea Rule" to impose their rule.
I see some sudden long term treaties on the horizon.
