JLM, I merged your thread with Nuggler's as his was the older of the two.

Seniority rules..................Just another "union" thing............eh;-)

It's not the "modern crop".. it's just sports nuts in general.

English riots go back to the 1880s.. It's sports.. it makes people stupid and is an excellent tool to promote blind nationalism as a diversion from reality.

Why else do you think MacKay was plugging the Canucks instead of actually answering questions about bombs being dropped in Libya??

Ah,,,,,,,,,,,because he is a stupid bum-licking, ****ing, ****head...................Close???8O

Any rioters convicted should be publicly flogged and made to pay the entire bill for damage, clean up and policing. Even if they have to pay for the next 20 years.

Yep, every street in the down town core with a tooth brush and then flogged AFTER they get the work done.

Gee, these Canadians are such god awfully violent people.

Well, people always seem to think Canadians are apathetic, easy-going folk...... my wife had a good laugh when I said that last night in regards to these riots.

Her response was "Oh yeah, you guys elect a tyrant who screws around with your democracy at every chance he gets & you guys mumble and shrug your shoulders...... yet when you lose at a sport, that's when you guys start rioting and burning things to the ground."

I really hope they catch all those involved and fine them, jail them, whatever... punish them and publish their face, name online for all Vancouverits to see...

So tired of idiots giving Canada a bad name.

Now that Canada has "President" Harper, elect senators, expand our military overseas and up north, bring in a death penalty, tougher jail sentences and build more prisons.

I like to see a new constitution for Canada, one that protect free speech and allows less gun control.

Further, and EU style agreement between Canada in the USA is long overdue. Tired of exporting jobs overseas, and importing working to Canada from the Middle East and Asia.

There are plenty of workers south of the border that will do jobs in Canada, and amazingly there are plenty of jobs in the USA that Canadians will do.

9% unemployed, wtf. I can go out and find 3 jobs a day and get hired. Lazy people need to get off their ass and go knock on doors.

o.k. there is my rant..

I think giving "Canada a bad name" might be a bit of a misnomer, or at least to no greater extend than the idiots at English soccer games give England a bad name. As there is a "black sheep" in every family there are idiots in every country.

She lived in Canada for the last three years to see what was going on for herself.

Besides, I don't tell her about this site.... you're all my little private porno.

Indeed.... Over here in Ozland, besides a 30 second blurp on the morning tv when most people are out working... and one guy mentioning it at work the day of.... it went & gone and nobody really gives a damn in the rest of the world, because:

#1 - Nobody really gives a damn about Hockey outside of North America and Russia.
#2 - When Canadians riot, the rest of the world thinks it's funny.

.....and

#3 - If hockey fans rioting really gives Canada a bad rep in the eyes of the world, then the Habs did that long ago.

Everybody is freaking about how Vancouver rioted twice in two playoff finals...... TWO!

Habs fans riot on a regular basis.... and you're all worried about Vancouver rioting twice?

Oh but Praxius, they just had the Olympics and everybody loved it.

Big whoop... Montreal had the Olympics once upon a time, how long shall we hang it over Vancouver?

About three days after the Olympics are over, everybody forgets about them, regardless of what country hosts them and what horrible things they did after the fact.

No, the police were in a no win situation. With a leftarded mayor and council they were not permitted to clamp down hard right at the start of trouble or shoot the bastards that created the mess.

Right, and then we would have been reading about police brutality in the morning papers. Game 5 saw over 100,000 people in the downtown core and save for a few drunks who were dealt with, the crowd was nonviolent. And, not all of those were Canucks fans either. Once the postmortem is done on the riot, I believe we will see that the riot was started intentionally by a group of discontents who came armed and ready for violence.

I saw written on the boarded up windows of the BMO building on Georgia this afternoon: "real fans don't riot." The morning after hangover apparently is to be plagued by No True Scotsman fallacies.

Don't be so ridiculous as to believe that our "hockey fans" don't riot. I think people saying this are fans themselves and are personally offended when the rioters are also called fans. Those people need to take a step back and stop self-identifying so strongly with such a trivial association. Don't take it personally. Not everyone who likes hockey needs to think and act the same as you.

Of course many Canuck fans are 'personally offended" when tarred with the same brush as the mob that caused the riot. It beats me why one would think wearing a Canuck jersey automatically makes someone a fan - for some people it is nothing more than a fashion statement.

I am not a long-time fan of the Canucks but I jumped on their bandwagon gladly when I saw they had a chance to win the Cup, after all I do live in BC. As time went on during the play-offs, more and more people like me, joined the parade and the number of supporters for the Canucks continued to grow. That doesn't make them or me a true Canuck fan and for all of those who supported this team over the decades, it must indeed be very sad to be painted with the same colors as those who were nothing more than johnny-come- latelys to the Canucks fanfare.

The thought has also crossed my mind that were I intent on causing mayhem the best way to blend in with a crowd of hockey fans would be to, like them, wear team apparel.

The Police Chief said the riots were planned and started by anarchists, they should be called urban terrorists..

Whatever you want to call them, I just hope when they are all rounded up they are lined up in front of the national media for photo ops. The medieval practice of stocks and pillories might also be an idea worth thinking about - I know a few people who love the opportunity to throw rotten food at these malcontents. They are the ONLY ones in this entire affair that should be ashamed - not Vancouverites, not the Team and not the other 99,000 fans who were dealt two bitter blows on Wednesday night.

I am so proud of the citizens of Vancouver for their support of the city in its clean-up efforts and for the outpouring of support for the Vancouver police. Good on you, this is the true face of Vancouver. The police chief spoke highly of all the brave citizens who stood up to the crowd and tried to do something in spite of overwhelming odds. There were thugs in this incident but there were heroes too.

Thugs on the ice, thugs on the streets.

Vancouver, if you want to be like Philadelphia in 1974 and 1975, you must have a wee bit of talent.

I missed the thugs on the ice, I only saw 12 hockey players. What were the thugs wearing?

The word thugs brings to mind the officiating in the play-offs this year. I sincerely hope to see a much better performance by officials on the ice next year. Would be nice to know that the refs and the players are all on the same page and not having to constantly second guess each other. The one blight on the whole play-offs for me was the lack of consistency in the officiating.
