Congressional Investigations
There are dozens of them. At least 20 major investigations and it is quite clear this is the Dem. strategy for 2020. The raise a blizzard of obfuscation, accusation, threats of prosecution and, gratuitous charges to present a picture of a corrupt and embattled administration. Their tactics are to pile on gratuitous subpoenas in a vast fishing expedition for politically pliable leverage. They are taking their lessons from the Watergate playbook, but this a much different situation and, America is a much different place than it was in 1974.
I’m confident that it is going to backfire. It has no substance. It transforms the Constitutional responsibility of Oversight into a mandate to undermine and discredit by way of gossip, innuendo, calumny and, legal sophistry. That is not Oversight, it is Persecution. It is also a political gambit. It is blatant misuse of, in fact it weaponizes, Congressional subpoena power. It’s not like they haven’t been warned, by people in their own party, that they were alienating voters, but i would characterize their attitude as that of a lynch mob, beyond reason and constraint.
Democratic Congressman increasingly present a picture of wild eyed zealots. Jerry Nadler is a case in point; playing the part of aggrieved victim of tyrannical oppression. It’s laughable. And its very close to the psychological profile of the Dem Party as a whole these days as an agglomeration of victim sub-cultures. This gives them emotional succor for what is likely to become very damaging politically. They look like bullies and they increasingly look desperate and unhinged.
