Canada's youngest mass murderer prepares for 'real life in the real world'

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. -- A woman who was 12 when she helped murder her family because they disapproved of her relationship with an older man is preparing to live a "real life in the real world" when her sentence ends next spring.
The woman, who is now 21 but can't be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was convicted along with her then-boyfriend of killing her mother, father and eight-year-old brother in the family's Medicine Hat home in April 2006.
Her 10-year youth sentence expires May 7, 2016, and she continued on her path toward freedom Thursday when a judge removed her weekday curfew. Her curfew on weekends was removed at an earlier court date.
"For the last portion of her sentence she'll be living as a normal individual in society so we'll be able to tell and see that this sentence has done what it was supposed to do, which is to reintegrate her and prepare her to live a real life in the real world," her lawyer Katherin Beyak said outside court.
"I think everyone's looking forward to the end of the sentence."
Court heard how the young woman, who appeared via video link from Calgary, has progressed in her rehabilitation to the point where she is at extremely low risk to reoffend.
"It's another positive report. In fact, all the reports I've received since I imposed this sentence a number of years ago were positive," said Justice Scott Brooker. "The risk level, according to the reports, remains low and, in fact, her score measures at the lower end of the lowest level."
She is living on her own in Calgary and has been enrolled in university.
Her sentence was the maximum for young offenders between 12 and 14 and included four years in a psychiatric institution and 4 1/2 years under conditional supervision in the community.
Her former boyfriend, Jeremy Steinke, who was 23 at the time of the killings, is serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole for 25 years.
The Crown argued she and Steinke concocted a plan to kill the girl's parents because they disapproved of the 10-year age gap between him and the girl.
It was suggested the crime was loosely based on Steinke's favourite movie "Natural Born Killers," Oliver Stone's twisted love story about a pair of young serial killers who get their start by killing the girl's parents.
Steinke admitted in court that he stabbed the mother and the father after he snuck into the family's home. But he argued that he did not plan the killings.
He said he attacked the mother, who was wearing only a nightgown, after she turned on a light switch and found him huddled in the darkened basement.
She screamed. Her husband came running with a small screwdriver and rushed Steinke. The man died in a fighter's stance, his arms still raised above him with loose fists in a room splashed with blood.
Steinke steadfastly maintained the boy's death came at the hands of the girl.
At trial, police officers and other witnesses became emotional as they recalled seeing the body of the small boy, found on his bed with a deep slash to his throat, his eyes and mouth wide open. Stuffed animals and a toy light sabre spattered with the boy's blood could be seen next to his body.
Steinke and the girl were arrested in Leader, Sask., about a 90-minute drive away, the day after the bodies were found.
The young woman spoke briefly in the court hearing Thursday expressing her "gratitude" for the team that has worked with her.
The final review of her sentence is to be scheduled for April 2016, a month before she goes free.

Florida police say four teens hacked a 17-year-old boy half to death with a machete before ordering him into a hole and burying him while still barely alive. Then two of the alleged attackers celebrated by having sex nearby.
Desiray Strickland, 18, was arrested Wednesday in the sickening murder of Jose Amaya Guardado on June 28. Kaheem Arbelo, 20, Jonathan Lucas, 18, and Christian Colon, 19, were arrested last week, and reportedly confessed to the crime.
The foursome apparently plotted the gruesome killing for a couple of weeks, according to court documents obtained by the Miami Herald. They allegedly dug a hole and hid the machete in advance. The motive is still unknown, but police believe Guardado owed one of them money.
All five attended the Homestead Job Corps campus, a government-run free education centre. According to the documents, the four allegedly lured Guardado from the school to a nearby wooded area, where they attacked him.
"The victim made one last attempt to fight off the attackers," the Herald quotes the police report, "at which time, (Arbelo) struck the victim with the machete several more times until the victim's face caved in."
Then they ordered Guardado into his shallow grave and buried him while he was still clinging to life, police say.
According to the report, Lucas and Colon headed back to the centre, but Strickland and Arbelo lingered behind to have sex.
Guardado's body was reportedly discovered three days later by his brothers, who were searching for him after he was reported missing.

Girl gang-raped and her eyes cut out in gory exorcism ritual: Police

A 16-year-old girl was gang-raped and had her eyes gouged out by her older sister to free her from demons, Argentinian police say.
The girl is reportedly clinging to life in hospital in the town of General Pinedo.
Her older sister, 22, is the only one charged in the gruesome exorcism ritual so far.
Police said she told her parents she was worried about bizarre visions her little sister had been having.
"The girl said that she was possessed by a demon and evil beings, saw bugs and animals (that weren't there)," police commissioner Paul Almiron told Buenos Aires newspaper the Cronica. "So the parents went to seek help from (the pastor)."
Almiron said the pastor told the family to cut her eyes out to exorcise the demons.
It's unknown if the alleged gang rape that apparently took place beforehand was part of the ritual, but police say rape charges are pending.
Local media have published gruesome photos of the teen in hospital. Police said it appears the older sister used a sharp instrument for the terrible deed.
The teen is also suffering from severe injuries in her genital area.
Spanish online portal Terra reported police found a Bible covered in blood and pieces of the girl's eyes at her home, the scene of the crime.
"It is the first time in 22 years of policing that I've seen something like this," Almiron told the Cronica, adding the attack is "very hard to explain."

LOS ANGELES - A 19-year-old California man accused of posing as a modelling agent to dupe and extort underage girls into sending him naked pictures was charged on Friday with more than 150 criminal counts in what prosecutors called a "revenge porn" case.
Cesar Mauricio Estrada-Davila is accused of preying on 21 girls between the ages of 12 and 17 between January and April of this year, Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney Jon Hatami said in a written statement.
Hatami said Estrada-Davila befriended his victims on a social networking site, telling them he was a modelling agent who could make them famous and asking for pictures in their underwear.
Once he got those pictures, Hatami said, Estrada-Davila would threaten to show them to the girls' friends and family members if they did not send him more explicit images.
Authorities got wind of the scheme and began an investigation that lasted several months after one of the victims told her parents what was occurring, Hatami said.
Estrada-Davila faces a possible sentence of life in prison if he is convicted at trial on all of the charges against him, which include possession of child pornography, contact with a minor for sexual offence and lewd acts upon a child.

Family mourns after gang buried hacked-up teen alive in Florida
Four classmates charge in killing of Jose Amaya Guardado

HOMESTEAD, Fla. -- Jose Amaya Guardado's mother said she brought her son to the United States nine years ago to escape the violence rampant in their native El Salvador. But now his family is mourning his death in what police describe as a brutal machete attack.
Miami-Dade police have charged four of Amaya Guardado's classmates with second-degree murder: Kaheem Arbelo, 20; Jonathan Lucas, 18; Christian Colon, 19; and Desiray Strickland, 18. Detectives said they're expecting to make a fifth arrest.
"I brought my son from there because they were killing people," Lucia Guardado said in Spanish at the family's south Miami-Dade home. "I never imagined they would do something like that to my son here."
According to an arrest report, the suspects had planned the attack two weeks in advance.
The report accuses them of luring Amaya Guardado, 17, to a wooded area near Homestead Job Corps, a live-in school and vocational training program for at-risk students run by the U.S. Department of Labor. That's where Amaya Guardado was hacked to death with a machete and left in a shallow grave that the suspects had dug in advance, police said.
Family members began searching for Amaya Guardado after he went missing June 28. His brother discovered his body a few days later.
Amaya Guardado's father, Santos Amaya, said his son began attending the school months before his death. Amaya said his son -- the youngest of six siblings -- wanted to learn how to be a mechanic, but the family didn't know the school took in students with criminal records.
He said his son was roommates with Arbelo, who the police report describes as the primary attacker in the group accused of killing Amaya Guardado. Police haven't disclosed any motive in the death.
Amaya Guardado's parents said he was a quiet boy who kept to himself for the most part and never bothered anyone. The parents said they believe the suspects had been bullying the younger, bespectacled boy and taking money from him before his death.
"When you go there, they only show you the good," Santos Amaya said of the school, speaking in Spanish. "They don't show you the ugly."
A telephone message left late Friday with the U.S. Department of Labor wasn't immediately returned. In a statement released Wednesday, a Labor Department spokesman said security is their top priority.
In the arrest report, police said Strickland complained about missing the start of the beating because she walked away to urinate in the woods.
The school is located in a remote area of Miami-Dade and is surrounded by wooded areas, with small roads leading into the woods but nowhere else.
According to the report, Amaya Guardado was ordered to lie in the shallow grave after the initial attack, but he made one last attempt to fight off the assailants. That's when police say Arbelo struck Amaya Guardado several more times with the machete until his face caved in. The suspects then pushed Amaya Guardado into the grave and buried him, according to the report. Strickland and another suspect stayed behind after the killing to have sex, it added.
The suspects cleaned up the scene, burned the victim's belongings and their own clothes and got rid of the weapon, authorities said.
Strickland was charged Wednesday, while Arbelo, Lucas and Colon were arrested last week. An attorney for Lucas said he couldn't comment on the case. An attorney listed for Colon and Strickland said he had withdrawn from the case, and it wasn't immediately clear if replacements had been assigned. An attorney listed for Arbelo didn't return calls or emails.
Attempts by The Associated Press to reach family members of the suspects have been unsuccessful.

REDFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- A Detroit-area woman accused of giving birth at work and hiding the boy in a plastic bag in a desk drawer has been ordered to stand trial on murder and child abuse charges.
The Detroit News reports that Redford Township District Judge Karen Khalil called the case "very difficult" during a preliminary examination Monday for Kimberly Pappas of Wyandotte.
Police say the baby was discovered on March 31, shortly after his birth in the restroom of a Redford Township business. Pappas worked there as a temporary employee.
An autopsy determined the infant lived for 20 to 30 minutes and died of suffocation. His death was ruled a homicide.
Pappas' lawyers have sought mental health treatment for the mother.
She is scheduled for arraignment Aug. 31 in Wayne County Circuit Court.

Man who dismembered wife pleads guilty to dismembering missing Manitoba woman
Traigo Andretti is already serving life in prison
Postmedia Network
First posted: Tuesday, August 25, 2015 04:37 PM EDT | Updated: Tuesday, August 25, 2015 06:24 PM EDT
WINNIPEG — A Manitoba man who tied his wife to a tree, strangled her to death then scattered her remains in pieces around a B.C. forest admits he dismembered another woman years earlier, and buried her head in the basement of their rooming house.
Traigo Andretti, 39, who is already serving life in prison, was handed a 20-year sentence for the second-degree murder of Myrna Letandre.
Letandre, who was 37 and originally from the Fairford First Nation, was reported missing by her sister in 2006. Her remains were found in a Winnipeg rooming house seven years later.
Andretti admitted to strangling Letandre from behind, dragging her to the shower where he slit her throat and drained her blood. In an agreed statement of facts, he said he dismembered her, flushed some parts down the toilet and burned others, along with her clothing, in a garbage bin.
He buried her head in a basement crawl space, then continued living in the rooming house.
He told people Letandre had gone to British Columbia with someone she met at a bar.
"It seemed, in hindsight, that I was absent, that I was just observing what I was doing to her body," Andretti told court softly. "I thought I loved her. The day before that, I had no idea it was going to happen."
Justice Chris Martin called the killing "evil, vile and despicable."
He said Andretti shows little remorse for the crime and has very little chance for rehabilitation.
He apologized to her family but said it was, in his words, "very insufficient for the loss."
That's a big step from an court date earlier this year, when Andretti couldn't suppress a giggle while letting the judge know he'd be pleading guilty.
In 2014, Andretti was given a mandatory life sentence with no chance of parole for at least 25 years for the first-degree murder of his wife, Jennifer McPherson, who was also a longtime Winnipeg resident.
He met McPherson through a dating site in 2006.
By April 2013, however, Andretti apparently wanted out of that relationship as well.
According to court testimony, he lured McPherson into the woods. Hinting at a sexual adventure, she allowed him to tie her to a tree with a rope.
With a video camera rolling, he then wrapped the rope around her neck.
"Be careful not to get it too tight," McPherson is heard on the recording, just before Andretti pulls hard, choking her to death, according to the Crown prosecutor who saw the video.
Andretti then cut her into pieces, burned parts of her body and scattered her remains on a remote island near Alert Bay, off the east coast of Vancouver Island. He put other pieces in lobster traps.
The couple had been living on the island as caretakers of a fishing resort called the Pacific Outback Resort.
Lorna Sinclair, Letandre's sister, told court that if police had listened, "Jennifer's death could have been prevented."
"I hope Mr. Andretti burns in hell," she said in her victim impact statement. "My sister was harmless. She deserved to live."

Scout perv convinced girl to join his troop
By Dean Pritchard, Winnipeg Sun

A former Scouts Canada leader has admitted to sexually abusing a teenage girl under his wing.

Larry Kiska, 46, pleaded guilty Wednesday to one count of sexual exploitation.

Kiska met the girl through Scouts when she was 15, Crown attorney Debbie Buors told court.

"He convinced her to switch Scout troops, allowing him to become her Scout leader and mentor," Buors said.

Buors described a pattern of grooming that included scheduling "alone time" with the victim.

In 2011, when the victim turned 16, "the relationship went from one of mentor and helping with homework to an intimate sexual relationship," Buors said.

Kiska set up an email account with a fake name, allowing Kiska and the victim to have "secret conversations and contact without anyone finding out," Buors said.

Kiska and the girl had sex at his home, in his car, and at a friend's apartment.

Other Scout leaders became suspicious and questioned Kiska and the girl about their "relationship."

"They both lied to Scouts Canada," Buors said.

Scouts Canada terminated Kiska in 2013. That same year, the victim, then 17, disclosed the relationship to her boyfriend and cut ties to Kiska. She reported the abuse to police earlier this year.

Kiska will return to court for sentencing at a later date.

Calgary homicide unit investigating death of Eneas Perdomo, 5
By Dave Dormer, Calgary Sun First posted: Wednesday, August 26, 2015 03:31 PM EDT | Updated: Wednesday, August 26, 2015 06:47 PM EDT
Police are investigating the suspicious death of a five year old child.
The boy, identified as Eneas Emilio Perdomo, five — known as Emilio — was brought to Alberta Children’s Hospital on July 11 suffering injuries family members described as being the result of numerous accidents, which included swelling and bleeding across his body.
Medical staff felt the injuries weren’t consistent with activities of a child his age and called police.
The child abuse unit began an investigation and the homicide unit took over when Perdomo died July 17, said Staff Sgt. Doug Andrus.
An autopsy found the injuries were not consistent with an accidental death, however the boy’s cause of death is not being released.
Andrus said the stories family members gave medical staff and police explaining Perdomo’s injuries were inconsistent.
“There were a number of people at the hospital, there were five individuals,” said Andrus.
Two teenagers and a “young adult” lived in a home with Perdomo, said Andrus, along with “two individuals who were identified as his parents.”
“We’re trying to confirm the relationships between Emilio and the individuals in the house,” he said.
Perdomo arrived in Canada in February, however Andrus would not say from where.
The others living in the home were not new arrivals to Canada, said Andrus.
“We have focused resources outside of the country,” said Andrus.
“We’re exploring information with individuals outside of the country.
“We have investigative information that is conflicting.”
Police are asking anyone who had contact with Perdomo to call 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
“There may be people who have had contact with him who we are not aware of,” said Andrus.

BELLEFONTAINE, Ohio -- A lawyer has entered not guilty pleas for a woman facing murder charges in the suffocation deaths of her three sons over a 13-month period.
Authorities say Brittany Pilkington confessed to killing her 3-month-old son last week, a 4-year-old brother in April and a baby brother last July.
Prosecutors say Pilkington, 23, was jealous at the attention her husband paid the boys over her and their young daughter. Pilkington's attorney entered the not guilty pleas at a hearing Wednesday. If convicted, she could get the death penalty.
Pilkington was jailed in Bellefontaine in western Ohio on $1 million bond.
Chief Assistant Prosecutor Eric Stewart says she is on suicide watch.
Services were held Wednesday for Noah Pilkington, found dead at his parents' apartment Aug. 18.
Brittany Pilkington appears for arraignment on three capital murder charges with her attorney Marc S. Triplett on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2015, in Logan County Common Pleas Court in Bellefontaine, Ohio. TTC driver charged with sexually assaulting 15-year-old girl
By Maryam Shah, Toronto Sun

TORONTO - A TTC operator known as Bus Driver Al is accused of luring and repeatedly sexually assaulting a teen girl.

He allegedly befriended the 15-year-old on social media in November.

The two eventually met in July on a TTC streetcar he was operating, police said.

He’s accused of sexually assaulting the girl on three separate occasions over the past four weeks.

The girl approached police with the allegations and police charged the operator Thursday evening.

Investigators believe there could be more victims.

“I think it’s important that you want to read your child’s social media account, absolutely, and speak with them about who they’re communicating with and have an open communication with your children,” Const. Caroline de Kloet said.

“In this case, you can see if your child has a friend on social media by the name of Bus Driver Al.”

Allan Hrynkiw, 39, of Oshawa is charged with three counts each of sexual assault, child luring, and sexual interference.

The TTC released a brief statement, calling it a “very serious issue.”

The transit agency is “co-operating fully with police in their investigation and the accused will not be performing his duties pending the outcome of this matter.”

TTC spokesman Brad Ross said the operator is currently suspended with pay.

Since the matter is before the courts, the TTC won’t comment any further.

Photographs of the accused have been released.

Police wouldn’t specify what social media platform Hrynkiw allegedly used, but there’s a Twitter account with the handle @TTCdriverAl and a photo matching one released by investigators.

The bio reads: “Just call me Mr. Night Bus. Driver for the TTC. Commonly seen on route 506/306 Carlton. Tweets are my own and do not reflect the views of my employer.”

Anyone with information should call Toronto Police at 416-808-2200 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).

A Winnipeg man who sexually abused his young stepdaughter for years, twice impregnating her, and later bludgeoned the girl’s friend and mother with a crowbar during an aborted sex attack has been sentenced to 16 years in prison.

The 35-year-old accused previously pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated assault, break and enter with intent to commit an indictable offence, sex assault causing bodily harm and repeated sexual assault. He cannot be named to protect the identity of his stepdaughter.

“I consider each of the fact patterns to be among the worst nightmare scenarios, for girls and women, covered by the charges to which he has pled guilty,” Justice Chris Martin said. “The crimes he committed were shockingly cruel and calculated.”

The man received credit for time served since his September 2012 arrest, reducing his remaining sentence to just over 11 1/2 years.

Police arrested the man after he broke into a Pembina Highway apartment belonging to his daughter’s 13-year-old friend and mother. Court heard the girl had been at the man’s home earlier in the evening watching a movie with his stepdaughter, and that he “demonstrated a peculiar interest in the girl” before driving her home.

The man returned to the apartment 30 minutes later wearing gloves, a hoodie to obscure his face, and carrying a crow bar.

The man ordered the girl and her mother onto a bed with the intent of sexually assaulting them. When they refused, he beat each of them about the head with the crowbar, opening deep, bleeding wounds.

The man fled from the apartment without consummating the sex attack and was arrested at his home a short time later.

At the time, the accused had sole custody of his stepdaughter and three children, his wife having succumbed to a drug addiction.

A year later, the man’s stepdaughter, now in the care of her mother, revealed he had been sexually abusing her since she was in Grade 6, up to six times a week.

The accused told his stepdaughter “I am going to marry you, you are going to have my babies.”

The girl had her first abortion in 2011 when she was 12, and her second a year later. On both occasions her father told her to tell doctors her boyfriend was the father.

A victim impact statement provided to court makes clear the emotional and psychological harm the girl has suffered, Martin said.

“She will require therapy for a long time,” Martin said. “One can only imagine the issues of abandonment, trust, love and sexuality that she will have to address to have any semblance of a normal life.”

'Heinous' Edmonton man jailed for sex with girls, 12, and making child porn
By Tony Blais, Edmonton Sun

A "heinous" Edmonton man who had sex with two 12-year-old girls and made disturbing child porn videos with one of them was put behind bars on Monday.
Amit Ramchandani, 32, was handed a five-year prison term in Court of Queen's Bench after pleading guilty in May to sexual interference and making child porn in relation to one victim and being convicted last year of sexual interference for having sex once with the second victim.
"This was an act of sexual exploitation," said Justice Doreen Sulyma, adding it was "aggravating" that Ramchandani chose to video himself in the "heinous" act.
Sulyma ruled it was also aggravating that Ramchandani made the first victim into a "pimp" by having her arrange to procure the second victim for him.
As well, the judge noted the "immense" age difference between Ramchandani and the girls and said it was further aggravating that he was seeking more young victims.
Sulyma ruled it was mitigating that Ramchandani - a sales person with a University of Alberta psychology degree who used to volunteer with the Big Brothers organization - had no prior criminal record, he was remorseful and he has family and community support.
Prior to being sentenced, the sex offender apologized.
"I really regret having no consideration for anyone and only thinking about myself at that time," he said. "I'm really sorry for the hurt I caused these girls and their families and my family."
Ramchandani was also placed on the national sex offender database for life and ordered to submit a DNA sample for the national DNA databank in Ottawa.
Court has heard Ramchandani met the first girl in 2009, when he was 26 and she was 12, after getting to know each other online on the social networking website Nexopia.
According to agreed facts, Ramchandani started an online relationship with the girl and, after she agreed to meet him in person, they began a sexual relationship that lasted from September 2009 to April 2011.
Court heard the pair met nine or 10 times and they would arrange to get together by text messages and then Ramchandani would pick the girl up and take her to his home. They would then chat and engage in sex.
On two occasions, in February and April of 2011, Ramchandani used his smartphone to make videos of him and the girl engaging in sexual activities. She was 13 at the time and was aware of the video recordings, which were never shown or distributed to anyone else.
In two of the five video clips, Ramchandani asks the girl to tell him how old she was when they first had sex, even though he knew the answer. The girl replies she was 12 and Ramchandani has her repeat her answer.
Court heard the pair's last meeting, which involved them engaging in sexual activities, was on the same day that Ramchandani first met the other underage girl.

DETROIT - A Michigan woman pleaded not guilty on Monday at her arraignment on charges of first degree murder in the death of her newborn son, who was found sealed in a plastic bag and stored in a tote near her desk in March.
Kimberly Pappas, 26, of Wyandotte, was found competent to stand trial in July on charges of felony murder, premeditated murder and first-degree child abuse in the death of the newborn, the prosecutor's office said.
In court on Monday, Pappas stood quietly, while a plea of not guilty was entered by Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Bruce Morrow.
There is no provision for bond when a defendant is charged with first degree murder, said Maria Miller, spokesperson for the prosecutor's office, in an e-mail.
Prosecutors said Pappas gave birth to a full-term infant in the bathroom at her workplace in Redford, Michigan, on March 31. An employee alerted the Redford Fire Department, which attempted to resuscitate the child, who was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
The next hearing in the case was set for Oct. 5 at 9 a.m.
In this undated booking photo released by the Redford Township, Mich., Police Department, Kimberly Pappas, 26, is shown. Arizona woman held on US$2M bail for drowning twin sons
Grandmother saved third child, a 3-year-old boy

PHOENIX - An Arizona mother who police say admitted to drowning her twin sons in a bathtub because "nobody loved them" and attempted to do the same to another child was ordered held on US$2 million bond on Monday by a commissioner.
Mireya Alejandra Lopez, 22, made her first appearance in Maricopa County Superior Court on suspicion of first-degree murder and attempted murder stemming from the incident at her suburban Phoenix home.
Lopez, who has a history of mental illness and was on medication, was arrested on Sunday in the suburb of Avondale, west of Phoenix, after the boys' grandmother called police.
Arriving officers and paramedics found the twins unconscious on a bed in the residence and they were taken to local hospitals where they were pronounced dead, police said.
New details emerged about the bathtub drownings in a probable-cause statement filed by police ahead of the hearing.
In the document, officers say Lopez admitted holding the toddlers face down in the water by the back of their heads until they were no longer moving.
Lopez also told police she grabbed a pen and poked a hole through into of the boys' necks to "ensure he was deceased" before wrapping them in a blanket and putting them on a bed, according to the papers.
Lopez wanted to end their lives because they were being bullied and treated differently, police say.
"Ms. Lopez said she did not want her children to grow up living a difficult life and she felt they needed to be at peace," police said in the statement.
The third child, a three-year-old boy, was saved by the grandmother, who arrived in time to prevent him from facing the same fate, according to police. He was not injured after being briefly held underwater.
Police said Lopez told them the child also was being mistreated and she was concerned he rarely ate and was anti-social, court papers stated.
"Ms. Lopez said she thought it was better for them to be at peace than to have to live with the same difficulties she has," the documents said.
Lopez also said she suffers from manic depression, psychosis and schizophrenia and takes eight pills daily to help with the illnesses.
Lopez was declared to be indigent by a court commissioner on Monday and will be appointed a public defender, court officials said. Her next court appearance is scheduled for Friday.

He probably would have saved himself a lot of grief if he'd have just done one 24 year old!

I have young grandchildren. I know this is crude but I think there is nothing short of a rusty tin can lid, that would solve the problem of most child molesters.

Think twice about it, the courts would make martyrs out of them & put you away for the duration!

I don't think that I would go that far. However, I have a friend who says that "her virginity was taken away from her before her, before she ever knew what the word meant. "As we all can guess, she has had mental health issues for her 60+ years. Her demons will not allow her peace.

So much for American justice making Canada's look weak.......

A Howell man was sentenced to 12 years in state prison for sexually assaulting a toddler and videotaping the attacks, authorities said Friday.

Kevin Motyka, 24, will have to serve 10 years of that prison term before becoming eligible for parole under the sentence imposed by Superior Court Judge Anthony Mellaci in Freehold, said acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni.

When he is released from prison, Motyka will have to be on parole supervision for life, have no unsupervised contact with anyone under 18 and any other conditions required under Megan's Law, Gramiccioni said.

Motyka pleaded guilty in March to aggravated sexual assault and four counts of child endangerment related to sexual assaults of a 2-year-old boy between May and December 2012.

He also distributed images of child pornography that did not include the boy, Gramiccioni said.

The case was first brought to the attention of Monmouth County authorities by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

The child endangerment charges cover allegations that Motyka caused a child to engage in pornography, that he manufactured and distributed child pornography and that he engaged in sexual conduct with a child.

Alabama teen's disappearance helps unravel incestuous sex ring

By most accounts, 19-year-old Brittney Wood was with uncle Donnie Holland the night of May 30, 2012, the last time anyone saw her. Holland — who was under investigation for horrific sex crimes at the time — died from a bullet within days in what was ruled a suicide.

The investigation that followed has publicly unraveled what authorities describe as a dark, twisted tale of perversion in the working-class neighborhoods and piney backwoods of coastal Alabama.

Eight of Woods' adult relatives and three family friends have been charged with dozens of felonies in two counties as the alleged members of an incestuous ring that authorities say shared children for group sex. Holland was the leader, prosecutors say, of what has been described as the largest sex ring ever uncovered in Alabama. Wood was a victim and likely key witness.

The case is so big officials don't know exactly how many kids inside and outside the family might have been victimized; estimates range from 11 to 16 children who were as young as 3 or 4 when they were first molested or made to watch adult relatives during drug-fueled orgies. The children of the suspects have all been placed in foster care or with relatives who weren't involved in the crimes.

Authorities believe group sex and child sexual abuse went on for three generations in two families that merged when Holland married Wendy Wood, Chessie Woods' sister.

Alabama teen's disappearance helps unravel large-scale, incestuo - ABC 33/40 - Birmingham News, Weather, Sports

UPDATE

A judge sentenced an Alabama woman to 219 years in prison Thursday for her role in an incestuous sex ring accused of molesting children for years.

Wendy Holland, 35, showed no emotion as the judge condemned her to what amounts to a life sentence. She must serve at least 50 years in prison before parole consideration, a prosecutor said.

Jurors convicted the woman of sodomy, sexual abuse and other charges last month.

Another defendant, William Brownlee, got a 20-year prison sentence. Brownlee, 50, was convicted of sodomy and sexual abuse in the fall.

The two were among 11 people charged with sex crimes following the disappearance in 2012 of a suspected victim of the ring, 19-year-old Brittney Wood. She remains missing and is presumed dead.

Baldwin Council Circuit Judge Jody Bishop gave both Holland and Brownlee the maximum sentence and said each deserved more time. Each still faces additional charges involving other alleged victims.

In a letter read in court, the underage female victim in both cases said years of abuse left her traumatized. She has a hard time trusting anyone, gets angry easily and rarely feels safe.

"I was a little girl being held down and raped," wrote the victim, who was in court.

Authorities said the two were part of a group of relatives and friends who sexually abused children and swapped their own kids for sex for years.

Holland is the widow of the alleged leader of the group, Donnie Holland, who was Brittney Wood's uncle. The teen went missing around the time Holland was found with a gunshot to the head; his death was later ruled a suicide.

Wendy and Donnie Holland's 22-year-old son Donald Paul Holland Jr. - charged with incest, rape and sexual abuse as another alleged participant in the ring - appeared before the judge in a closed hearing after his mother's sentencing.

He was seen being arrested and led away in handcuffs afterward, but the outcome of his case wasn't made public because he was handled as a youthful offender following a request by the defense.

Even without Brittney Wood to testify, two of her uncles and an older brother already pleaded guilty to sex charges before juries convicted Wendy Holland and Brownlee.

In the letter read in court, the underage teen abused by both Holland, a relative, and Brownlee, a family friend, compared her youth to being lost in a maze.

The teen said she felt like she was constantly looking into shadows around corners in fear of more sexual torture.

"The people who were supposed to protect me were the ones hurting me," she wrote in the letter.

If it's true that child abusers rough treatment in prison I hope the prison population takes care of these critters!.

Fashion designers don't like women who look like women. They like them to look like boys and that is the kind of model that they hire.

I wonder why that would be?

Where are the parents and what are they thinking? Chances are they're looking to make big money if their child gets to be a model.
When I was 14 my older brother saw a picture of me in a bathing suit and said he would send it to a magazine that was advertising for model. My Mother put a stop to that immediately! Wise Mom!
Parent nowadays really push their kids into things like that for the money. Shame on them! I think they should be charged too.
