It's really quite simple, the North warned the South about their military exercises, they didn't listen. This is the result.

Wow, good call.

You know I warned that little ***** not to dress provocatively, that's why she got raped.

That is how absolutely inept your statement is.

How would describe four and a half hours of live shelling right on your border? Is that the same as wearing a short skirt?

I question why they have to fire along the border for that long, especially when your hostile neighbor asks you not to.

Horrible analogy.

It wasn't an analogy, it was pointing out how stupid your post was. Holy cow man grab a brain.

Again, what a ridiculous question then. Both North and South Korea have militaries and both N and S Korea have conducted exercises in the past. Quite frankly EAO you are either naive or just troll like the CUBert.

No, it's even simpler than that. North Korea attacked South Korea. South Korea can have all the training exercises they like in their sovereign state. North Korea is simply jabbing their thumb in the eye of the rest of the world, knowing full well that the appetite for war is close to the zero bound. They are hoping to get some resources for their country, because their socialist country is far too inept to provide even the basics.

At even the slightest hint of aggression from those ronery assholes, Obama should drop a few bunker busters, on every Presidential Palace, and any known nuclear test facilities. Even give them fair warning, because after all, you said it really is that simple isn't it? If only...

When the South's military exercises result in firing inside North Korea's territorial waters they are allowed to act accordingly.

Ahh, so in your simple world if you and I are neighbours and I shoot your pool, then you're within reason to bomb my house and kill my kids....

Brilliant. That's downright psychopathic.

Whatever happened, North Korea apparently felt threatened and saw it as an act of aggression. You think North Korea are a bunch of deranged maniacs bullying the south and but that isn't the reality.

This isn't about South Korea conducting artillery exercises as much as where they were conducting it and how long.

Are you having a problem understanding how a four and a half hour sustained artillery barrage near a navigation channel might affect shipping in the area??? How many North Korea vessels do you suppose passed through the nearby North Korean navigation channel, during that time.?

I bet South Korea never consulted North Korea first before starting this exercise along North Korea's border. Seems rather unneighborly. If the US did this Canada's border, I'd bet we'd at least complain... politely.

From what I can tell, South Korea never fired any shells into North Korea, but the point of the exercise appears to be discovering how close they can lob artillery near the North Korean border in order to provoke a response. Given South Korea's claims they fired to the west, (which in this area, means toward North Korean) its possible some shells landed on the North Korea side of the border.

I am well aware of the MSM's slant on this story. Most Canadian/Western sources have left out important details. I'm drawing conclusions based on both side's narratives of events, looked at the timing of events, the location of this incident and considered the impact South Korea's exercise might have on North Korea. You appear to have embraced the MSM's version of events verbatim. Who is being naive again?

BTW, I have sympathy for casualties on both sides as well as their families. I blame both governments. IMO, both sides had many opportunities to avoid a confrontation.

Actually that's how I see both sides.

No? They aren't deranged? So if I decide to leave Canada, and the next couple generations of my family are punitively punished by the state, that wouldn't be something you call deranged? Attempting to develop some of the most destructive weapons on earth, to use to intimidate others to get what you want, that isn't bullying?

You shouldn't lecture anyone about what reality is.

No I don't think North Koreans are a bunch of deranged maniacs bullying the South.....I think North Koreans are a starved, frightened people led by deranged maniacs that bully the south.

North Korea's leaders feel constantly threatened.....the entire state is a monument to the power of official paranoia.......

It begins to appear that Douglas MacArthur was right.
