So where does that put green energy? The entire green energy fairy tale is based on speculation....speculation that in some magical time in the future it will be self-sustainable, which it most certainly is not at the present time.
We keep hearing that technology will save us when it comes to green energy, that as technology improves wind and solar will somehow magically overtake more traditional forms of energy production. This is a complete myth, building solar panels, windmills and batteries takes an enormous amount of energy, and create numerous extremely toxic and environmentally damaging by-products. Green energy is completely unsustainable economically, relying heavily on massive government subsidies to artificially prop it up and make it look good. Meanwhile, no one seems to be looking at the fact that the same speculative potential that technology offers to green the energy industry, can also be applied to fossil fuel energy, including clean coal, natural gas, and carbon capture technology to list a few being researched...not to mention the one method of energy creation with the most potential to solve our energy problems...nuclear.
There isn't an energy option currently available that isn't priced (or subsidized) somewhat on speculation...conventional or green.

It would seem to be a slam dunk for the feds but who can say?
Because they don't work and govts lie about it. Take Norway for example. They've had a carbon tax since 1990. The Norwad govt proclaimed that the carbon taxes reduced emissions by 16% net, between 1990 and 2005. However, the Norwegian equivalent of StatsCan clearly stated that emissions in Norway increased by 33% over the same period.
