Because there are no bears. I suppose then though you would complain about the homeless and the traffic. How ****ty life is that we all can't just have everything the way we want it to be regardless of how it affects others.
If I was going to say a dog is a dog, I would have said a dog is a dog. If it is a brown dog, it is a brown dog. I said a colour (or shade, just in case nit-pickers choose to use it) and I said a general species. Who gives a damn for specifics if ba'ar wants your berry patch?
Well I was trying to put it in a nice way. Not to your liking? Some black bears are on the threatened list. Slaughtering the last of a distinct subset of a species is stupid and criminal. So while you choose not to understand or simply can not, it remains that all black bears are not the same.
Native populations were wise enough to know the spring bear hunt taught the cubs to stay away from man. Without that fear, they just grow up to be big, dumb, hungry bears. They were the people who were here - and lived in harmony with the bush - long before Europeans imposed their profit-margin world on everything. The spring bear hunt was still respected up until 1999 - before the tree-huggers lobbied the Harris government into cancelling it because of the risk of "poor orphan bear cubs". If people who know nothing about the environment would stop humanizing the bush, they could call themselves environmentalists.
Native populations conquered, marginalized, farmed out and still get short shrift because they couldn't get up to speed with changes.
Maybe that's not nice to hear but that's what it is. The Greek gods are dead too. If you want to live in bear counry don't complain about the bears. You don't hear me complaining about garbage, homeless people and constant road contruction do you? You also don't hear me complain about bears.
The biggest problem with the cancellation of the spring bear hunt are all the bears that people kill now. Those bears are killed out of fear. Not the lack of it by the bear but the unfounded fear people have of them.
But this isn't about the spring bear hunt in Ontario, it's about the seal hunt on the east coast. Do you support hunting for fashion?
