All news organizations have an agenda. That's achieved in what they include and what they leave out. A reader must be aware of ongoing bias in all sites.

Anything that doesn't include obvious baloney is fine with me. The conspiracy nuts that wrote about some of the stuff on that site are clearly just nuts.

How about the massive conspiracy to hide miracle cures from the world? They know how to cure cancer, multiple sclerosis, osteoperosis and every other disease known to man. But of course, the big bad medical people don't want you to know about it cause they make money by keeping you sick. The people on that board know though, and they're willing to let you in on the secrets for the low price of $75 for their magazine subscription! YAY!!! Apparently, even though they know all these cures, they haven't been able to get the word out for free.... That kind of thing disgusts me.

Something to read while sipping on that diet soda...

BACKGROUND: Aspartame (L-phenylalanine N-L-alpha-aspartyl-1-methyl ester) is an artificial sweetener with widespread applications. Previously published results have shown that among rats receiving aspartame a significant increase of lymphoreticular neoplasms, brain tumours and transitional cell tumours occurred. The aim of our short-term experiment was to investigate the biological effect of aspartame consumption by determining the expressions of key oncogenes and a tumour suppressor gene. MATERIALS AND METHODS: After one week per os administration of various doses of aspartame to CBA/CA female mice, p53, c-myc, Ha-ras gene expression alterations were determined in individual organs. RESULTS: The results showed an increase in gene expressions concerning all the investigated genes especially in organs with a high proliferation rate: lymphoreticular organs, bone-marrow and kidney. CONCLUSION: Aspartame has a biological effect even at the recommended daily maximum dose.

Aspartame Causes Cancer in Rats at Levels Currently Approved for Humans
A statistically significant increase in the incidence of malignant tumors, lymphomas and leukemias in rats exposed to varying doses of aspartame appears to link the artificial sweetener to a high carcinogenicity rate, according to a study accepted for publication today by the peer-reviewed journal Environmental Health Perspectives (EHP).
"Our study has shown that aspartame is a multipotential carcinogenic compound whose carcinogenic effects are also evident at a daily dose of 20 milligrams per kilogram of body weight (mg/kg), notably less than the current acceptable daily intake for humans," the authors write.

Aspartame Gate: When Donald Rumsfeld was CEO of Searle

As calls for US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld to resign are prompting questions from Senators, about possible breakdowns in the Pentagon chain of command leading to prisoner abuse in Iraq, Betty Martini founder of Mission Possible, an international 'Aspartame resistance' movement, writes to Senator Biden to explain that allowing torture of prisoners in Iraq may not have been the only reprehensible action Rumsfeld should answer for.

all the time remembering that "the bastards" are working against us...

The sweet stevia herb has had a long, safe history of use as a food and medicine in South America and Asia, but in many Western countries it is illegal as a food or food additive but legal as a dietary supplement.

It's easy to grow, wonderful as a sweetener, contains medicinal properties, is non-caloric, safe to cook with, and has great potential in agriculture. It's widely used in South America and Asia. So why isn't stevia a household name in the rest of the world?

Julian Whitaker, MD, believes that the FDA "has been after stevia since 1986, coincidental with the growing popularity of aspartame".

According to a 1994 article by Rob McCaleb of the Herb Research Foundation, the FDA began visiting businesses selling stevia around 1987, saying it was an unapproved food additive. One FDA inspector reportedly told a company president that the manufacturer of NutraSweet® had made complaints to the FDA to try to stop the use of stevia.

The Stevita Book-burning Saga

In 1998, the Stevita Company and the US FDA received considerable media attention after it was reported that the FDA had ordered the burning of books sold by Stevita. These contained information on the herb along with stevia recipes.

aspartame is the methyl ester of the dipeptide asp-phe. in other words it is made of two amino acids, both of which are found in our bodies, bonded together in the same way amino acids in our body are joined to make things like hormones and proteins.

did you know water is toxic too?

So, is that why so many people with conditions like fibromyalgia and arthritis get so much worse when they use diet products? I know that amino acid imbalances are a huge issue with fibro.

I think aspartame is unusual for a sweetener in that it's a dipeptide rather than some form or modified carbohydrate (sugar is a carbohydrate). For instance "splenda" is made FROM sugar, just altered to make it indigestible.

sweeteners take a huge variety of shapes and forms. Aspartame, at least theoretically, is one of the least harmful, since it's made from naturally occuring compounds (unlike, for instance, saccharin). The slight danger with aspartame is that one of the amino acids is phenylalanine, which is the one people with PKU, an inbred metabolic condition which means you are unable to metabolise phenylalanine, which, in very high concentrations, is a neurotoxin. This is why you often see the words "contains a source of phenylalanine" on the box.

sorry for the graininess. top left=glucose, top right aspartame, middle=saccharin, bottom left="sucralose" the sweetener in "splenda", bottom right=sucrose, or table sugar

my point was, mate, that the "fda approved" one is harmfull, actually, it kills....and the "fda forbidden" one doesnt, infact its proven to be beneficial, both to humans and the environment.

yes I do. partake in artificial sweeteners, but usually only if i can't get the real thing :0)

as for stretch's point (please dont call me mate). i'm sure stevia has its own hazards. the problem is until something is brought into mass use studies the size of those which are carried out on things like aspartame cannot occur.

My diabetic father would be dead today if not for artificial sweeteners because he's too stubborn to give up his beloved Coca Cola...

actually, stevia is in mass use in Japan, making up 40% of their artificial sweetener market. Wiki has a neat entry on it. What I find most interesting, is how stevia is still a morphed glucose molecule. It's just a plant that morphs it, instead of a human. You'd probably find the article on there very interesting Hermann.

steviol is attached to three or four glucose units. I suppose those units must be strongly bound to the steviol unit to avoid it being digestible (as it has "no calorific value"). Steviol vaguely resembles a steroid in structure

In 2006, the -- (WHO) performed a thorough evaluation of recent experimental studies of stevia extracts conducted on animals and humans, and concluded that "stevioside and rebaudioside A are not genotoxic in vitro or in vivo and that the genotoxicity of steviol and some of its oxidative derivatives in vitro is not expressed in vivo."-- The report also found no evidence of carcinogenic activity. The report also suggested the possibility of health benefits, in that "stevioside has shown some evidence of pharmacological effects in patients with hypertension or with type-2 diabetes"--, but concluded that further study was required to determine proper dosage.

and it has them funny diagrams too, hermy
