I doubt if there's a rule that applies to everyone equally. I've heard of addictive personalities. I knew a woman who was bad alcoholic and drank to excess up until the last 5 years of her life. She didn't give a sh*t as long as it was affecting everyone else but when her life was in jeopardy she dropped it like a hot potato. Then her addiction to bingo intensified. So I'm not any wiser than you, all you can do is watch the situation.
Not much use worrying about things you can't control anyway. It took me about 65 years to learn that! -

It matters not if a man is the mayor of the 4th biggest city in North America or if he's the trash collector of a small hamlet somewhere, no one is exempt from problems and a person's exalted stature is no guarantee that he's any more able to contend with them. It's obvious you don't like Rob Ford, so I have one piece of advice for you...................DON'T F**KING VOTE FOR HIM.

They are financially set for life so I so wonder why they put up with all of this, which they are creating, but why do they continue on instead of leaving the public eye and enjoying life...............

The only context I had in mind when I said it doesn't matter whether he is mayor or trash collector (or Einstein himself) was the ability to be immune from problems or to have the ability to solve them. it is not up to the public to cut him a break because he went to rehab for two months...rather the onus is upon him to show that he has recovered and is fit to sit in the mayor's chair and run the city...period
