And most of the growth is in the West (external - login to view) - in fact, we're now bigger than the East excluding Ontario.

Why would anyone want to move out west where there is opportunity? Don't they know that there are Conservative provincial govmints out there and also Steven harper lives there.

Don't listen to the resident idiot.

This is predictable movement and good for those who are seeking new employment opportunities.

From my understanding, we have over 34 million. Perhaps not.

Typical Stats Canada, they provide enough links and numbers to confuse anybody .
I wonder if anyone is checking how much they are costing us and if the information is relevant !!

Yea, crime rate for one is something we don't need to know anyway. Let's just keep building prisons.

Try to read the posts, including your own. You posted a population figure from a specific date. The population clock
is a projected future figure that keeps changing as it should.

Statistics Canada projects that :

Canada’s population would increase by 361,317 during the year 2011-2012, an average increase of one unit every minute and 28 seconds. At this rate, the population of Canada would reach 34,844,096 by July 1st, 2012.

Growth is a faux ami.
Let me explain what I mean..
From Statistics Canada's data, you can see that metropolitan Edmonton is growing faster than the rest of the nation. Some may celebrate this fact. But, let's extrapolate.
Suppose these growth rates were constant, then a little elementary math will tell you that in approximately 288 years Metro Edmonton's population will exceed the population of all of the rest of Canada.
Absurd to contemplate, isn't it. Obviously...
What is our conclusion, then?
At some point, very soon, humanity must not only curb but reverse "growth." We are frogs in the proverbial simmering cauldron.

Walter in BC I think we are going to have a snap election and the result will be an NDP
government. The Liberals are making promises and shooting money out there for all
kinds of things in the last few weeks. They even ran some anti Dix commercials and as
far as one can tell it backfired. The Liberal and moderate conservative coalition is under
strain and the provincial Tories are gaining ground but not enough to take out Dix and
the New Democrats.
As for population the figures today suggest that Kelowna where I live is running well ahead
of the nation or one of three cities in BC doing so. Our population here has grown by ten
percent since 2006. We notice it in highways clogged and new stores opening all the time.
I do believe development is a good thing as long as planning is done properly.
The other problem is we have an Agricultural Land Reserve which means building on
agricultural land is prohibited, This does result in urban rural problems at times with city
encroachment and land values become a serious issue as well. Farmland here runs from
sixty to one hundred thousand dollars an acre, so the average home cost becomes very
expensive as well.
I expect to see BC grow even faster in the next few years and Saskatchewan seems to be
experiencing a boom as well. The other problem we are having is a low birth rate and we
apparently need more immigration to meet the demand for services etc. We will be living in
interesting times.

Humans are going to grow ourselves right off the planet some day unless we clue in that unlimited growth and development is not a good thing. Stability is vastly more important.

Excessive stability can be as bad as unlimited growth as it leads to stagnation which is a slower way to die than just using all the resources we need to survive. We need slower, sustainable growth that continues to let us evolve.

After she made that comment, I knew she had to been born outside of Canada, or that our education system is really getting bad.

She won that riding under Jack Layton. The Liberals will retake it in 2015.

33 million? That's nothing, especially for a country the size of the whole of Europe.

Britain has a population of 63 million, and it will rise to 75 million by 2040.
