Finder, the unpopularity of the GST was what brought them down. A naive public who didn't understand why it was implemented, yet a liberal government who became addicted to it even after they said they would eliminate it. A liberal government who rode it to fiscal responsibility.

He had the guts to do what was right. It hurt them politically but we can thank him (or Paul Martin can) for creating the vision to turn the finances of the country around.

Well no Paradox, supposedly he believes himself the best PM since J.A MAcdonald.

Dude, besides all of the other mentioned statments here about his record, if he does not respect the wishes of the Canadian people, he is by far the worst PM as he did not carry the respect of the nation and lost everything for his party and hurt his movement and greatly helped his foes.

Mulroney was easily the best Prime Minister in the last 25 years. No one is remotely close.

Well Kreskin likes him, Paradox, and it does appear as if the Conservatives at work in Ottawa are working on revising history and white washing the afimentioned Conservative to actually try to make his time in office respectable... It's a joke. History will always show by pure math a party killed by his incompentance and inability to understand, Canadians, Canadian wishes and how to be a puplic servant and elected official.

Lets see. Chretien - didn't know either of the official languages too well. Almost lost the country in 95, saved only by a kleptocracy. Martin, proven to be a submissive wishy washy finger-in-the-air leader (said loosely) who foundation for financial reform was solely Mulroney's.

Ya I get it.

I can't stand it anymore. Time to get out the insults.

Kreskin, you must be an idiot. Chretien knew both official languages fluently.

While I don't think you should have expressed your frustration in the manner you just have, JonB2004 (insults in a debate are never to be accepted, and I would urge you to retract them as such), I would agree that the suggestion that the Right Honourable Jean Chrétien, P.C., knew neither of the languages of Canada at a fluent level, are baseless.

Jon, you must be losing the debate to resort to name calling.

I voted yes ... I was patient enough with the liberals and their scams they also made Canada look like a sisi on the international front
The conservatives deserve my patience as well.

I'm don't feel that I'm losing the debate, Kreskin. I was just letting you know that you were an idiot for what you said about Chretien.

CWH, I agree. We just finished with a kleptocracy and the followers want it back in a hurry. And the reasons are what? They didn't like Mulroney. They want the NDP new math childcare plan. I'm not sure what it is they see in the loyal opposition that warrants a new election.

I didn't realize you had a monopoly on opinion. If you can't stop name calling why don't you go to bed?

Yeah, maybe I should go to bed before someone really ticks me off.

A proof is a proof. What kind of a proof? It's a proof. A proof is a proof. And when you have a good proof, it's because it's proven.

I would suggest that the "ranks" of our most recent Prime Ministers of Canada are, in order of my own preference based on the information I know in relation to their times as the head of government of the Parliament of Canada (and attempting to avoid partisanship — while acknowledging that one can never truly escape one's own bias):
  1. The Rt. Hon. Pierre Trudeau, P.C.;
  2. The Rt. Hon. Jean Chrétien, P.C.;
  3. The Rt. Hon. Paul Martin, P.C., M.P. (LaSalle—Émard);
  4. The Rt. Hon. Brian Mulroney, P.C.;
  5. The Rt. Hon. John Turner, P.C.;
  6. The Rt. Hon. Kim Campbell, P.C.
I chose not to have the Right Honourable Stephen Harper, P.C., M.P., the Member for Calgary Southwest and the present Prime Minister of Canada on that list, because I cannot judge whether or not he is going to be high or low on that list once his term as prime minister is completed.
