NO NO NO. This is another one of Bushes's silly schemes to draw peoples attention away from the fact that the world hates them.
They want us to participate so we can share the cost of financing the American war machine.
All these incoming missles will be shot down over Canada, at least the ones they hit, most of them will come down on their targets anyway. If Bush and his crowd were spend spend money on education, food and other forms of aid in the third world without expecting colonial rule over these folks, there would be no one who wanted to blow them up.
America has abandoned the freedom from fear, concept that has served them so well in the past. They have become frightened little mice in a glass cage, that the whole world can see through including their enemies and this more than anything else will result in their eventual down fall.
Canadians should step around that with all the distance we can muster.

Thanks, Jay. I guess I have to be clear as hell for Vanni.

1. 9-11: Arab Muslim terrorists.
2. First attack on WTC: Arab Muslim terrorists.
3. Attack on USS Cole: Arab Muslim terrorists.
4. Continuing suicide bombers in the middle east: Arab Muslim terrorists.
5. Bombing of US embassies in several locations: Arab Muslim terrorists.

Yes I know there are some other ethnic and homegrown terrorists, but lets face it, the ones doing most of the damage in the last 10 years are as noted above. That does not mean by any stretch that all Arabs are terrorists, but lets ask a hypothetical question: How would any of us had felt if on a plane flight on October 2, 2001, your seatmate was an Arab?

All good points. In addition, the Canadian government should do what the US did after 9/11 and drastically tighten up immigration, particularly from countries that harbour these terrorists. This may not filter out every single terrorist from entering the country, but it definitely doesn't hurt.

Well I know how the Cons like to mince words...

How many of these have been irrefutably proven blue?

The 991 Commission Report was an exercise in appeasment, which didn't work mind you, the 911 families are still asking the same questions they did before the report was released. Far too many questions remain mostly regarding government actions during and shortly after 911.

I wonder if this is where Grewal got the idea from

The lead investigator of the USS Cole attack, and the man who arguaby knew more about al-Qaeda than anyone else on the planet, John P. O'Neill resigned from the FBI in protest after having been told to back off on his investigation of al-Quaeda and Bin Laden...two weeks or so after he became head of security at the WTC complex, and was killed in the 911 attack.

Suicide bombers are a product of their aggressors. You never see the stronger of two nations launch suicide attacks do you?

If you were able to muster even a tiny bit of empathy, you would be able to realize that.

It has not been proven that Arabs, or even al-Qaeda were responsible for the embassy bombings.

Consider for a Moment the Strange Tale of Michael Meiring

There's controversy surrounding every one of these events, and definitive culpability is far from certain.

that is exactly what will and IS happening. this american dream of missile defense is part and parcel of the grand plan of pre-emptive war. They could aggressively attack nuclear armed nations in the hope that any retaliation from them would be shot down. So what will those potential targets do to circumvent that? build more missiles of course.

We should spend those billions rebuilding our aging military by building most of the armoured vehicles and armoury here at home. Spend it here so it stays here. Dubyas friends in the arms industries in the US are rich enough thank you very much.

Beyond all of that... who is targeting us with nukes? Really now who is aiming our way?
Absolute rubbish. Any ICBM's launched at the U.S will pass over Canada. If Canada The Pure says no, the U.S will probably enjoy using us as a dumping ground: and no one could blame them.

Except of course the usual loony toons,

IF Canada joins a Joint Missile Treaty, then the USA will (selfishly I admit) defend our cities.

The systems are far from perfect but they can already be a factor. They are steadily improving too.

BTW '400 miles' was a worst case and at the missile speeds, not that great.

Most problems are due to to 'primitive' mathematical algorithms and computers & software are improving rapidly. The Israelis are world leaders too.

The shorter range & IRBM U.S.A-israeli 'Iron Dome' anti-missile system, although not perfect, has already proven itself invaluable in combat.

Re: Yes or No to missile

I do remember Neville Chamberlain. He was the British PM who appeased Hitler when Hitler was invading countries on trumped-up charges. He didn't want to anger Germany because of its growing economic might and military power. He reasoned that there were many ties between England and Germany, especially in matters of trade.

It would seem to me that it is Harper who would be like Chamberlain.

There are some logical fallacies in your argument for joining BMD, Blue. Terrorists don't have ICBMs. North Korea might, but it has no recent record of belligerence outside its own borders. Anybody who fires a missile at the US can expect massive retaliation, and North Korea, assuming they actually have a missile that reach the US, does not want to become a smoking hole in the ground.

POOR STUPID REVEREND BLAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He desperately needs to pray for guidance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

His understanding of either Hitler or Harper are so out of whack one has to assume he is an agent of some foreign power hell bent on

Here is a telling example of how poorly LIE-berals are handling Cdn national security in this increasingly dangerous world! With some comments of my own in brackets):

How Canada can lead on North Korea issue

Postmedia Network. First posted: Friday, September 15, 2017 04:40 PM EDT | Updated: Friday, September 15, 2017 04:59 PM EDT

Lt.-Gen. Pierre St. Amand appears as a witness at a commons national defence committee in Ottawa on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017. The committee is hearing witnesses on Canada's abilities to defend itself and our allies in the event of an attack by North Korea on the North American continent. (Sean Kilpatrick/The Canadian Press)

We learned two interesting pieces of information from Thursday’s national defence committee hearings on Parliament Hill looking into North Korea.

One was very bad news, the other was somewhat good.

The testimony of the top-ranking Canadian stationed at the NORAD base in Colorado left parliamentarians speechless. Lt.-Gen. Pierre St. Amand was asked whether or not he believed the United States would shoot down a missile if it was heading towards Canada.

“I’m being told in Colorado Springs that U.S. policy is not to defend Canada,” he said. “That’s fact I can bring to the table.”

But what a troubling fact it is. This is all because while Canada is a part of NORAD, that just means we collectively watch the skies together. The shooting down of missiles is what the American ballistic missile defence (BMD) system does – which we’ve repeatedly chose not to join.

(What a feeble JOKE on us Cdns! LIE-berals have scorned any real effort to defend Canada for decades- with Our Pet Pierre Trudope actually and repeatedly insisting we should unilaterally disarm ourselves so nobody would see us as a threat! Not that it would have stopped Soviet missiles from flying over Canada in event of a nuclear war!)

First, it was Brian Mulroney taking a pass on Ronald Reagan’s Strategic Defense Initiative popularly called “Star Wars”, then it was Paul Martin declining to join George W. Bush’s BMD version.

(Its understandable that Cdn govt would not wish to pour money down a dark hole that might or might not produce a usable defensive weapon! Neither Mulroney nor Martin can really be condemned for their lack of computer knowledge. But we can say nasty things about LIE-beral prime minister Chretien as it was during his reign of 3 terms that Cdn military really rusted out!)

(The flagship of our Atlantic fleet was towed back to harbour last year after yet another engine fire and is not fit to even take tourists out whale watching on a sunny afternoon now! With other ships of the Cdn fleet in nearly as bad condition and LIE-berals in no hurry to remedy the situation in spite of Canada having the longest coastline on the planet. Chretien also reigned when Ministry of Transport decided Cdn artillery was so rusted out it could no longer be towed safely on public roads. It was Chretien that had to admit that Cdn CF 18 fighters were essentially impotent during the Kosovo mess as that other LIE-beral Pierre Trudope had not bothered to buy bomb racks for them so the old planes could not even drop `dumb` bombs much less smart ones! And it was Chretien who told us there was no point in going out to BUY bomb racks as the communications systems in the CF 18`s were so obsolete that other NATO planes could not talk to them in the air! And it was Chretien who paid out that five hundred million dollar penalty for the privilege of cancelling the badly needed EH 101 helicopter deal arranged by Conservatives. And it was Chretien who later simply shrugged when a passenger plane went down in northern Manitoba and newspaper reporters in a rented helicopter got to the site a day BEFORE Cdn air force rescue did since the obsolete Sea King helicopters the air force was forced to use could not safely fly so far or so fast! And it was Chretien who ended up buying alternative helicopters that turned out to have badly designed and flawed tail rotors- a costly problem the EH 101 did NOT have!)

We chose to take a pass on it. Now the U.S. might very well shoot down a missile heading to Canada, but it’s just not their job. They’re tasked with protecting their own homeland.

Now that North Korea has intercontinental ballistic missiles and is likely able to place miniaturized nuclear warheads on them, the calculus around BMD has changed. Canada needs to seriously consider joining.

(LIE-berals have hidden behind United States military for decades and yet LIE-berals do not understand why Yankees treat our soveriegnty as something of a joke!)

The good news, courtesy of the testimony of a senior foreign affairs public servant, is that North Korea’s impression of Canada ranges from neutral to friendly. We learned this after a delegation visited the hermit kingdom to broker the release of Canadian prisoner Pastor Lim.

While Kim Jong-un and Donald Trump exchange fiery rhetoric, there is an opportunity for Canada to work behind the scenes to spread goodwill as the world works towards a diplomatic solution. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau ought to seize this opportunity.

It could be Canada’s “Nixon in China” moment, where back-door diplomacy transformed a near non-existent relationship into a productive one.

On these fronts, Canada should proceed to both protect itself and be a force for peace?

(Oh right! And what will Our idiot Boy Justin offer to Kim Jong Crazy? The latest news is that Rockct Man already has a fine collection of porn, whiskey and clothes and lots of servants as well, though some sour people refer to them as slaves! Or perhaps we actually have a secret weapon in our Maple syrup? Does it go well with the Korean national dish called Kim Chee? Perhaps Our idiot Boy is hoping to bribe Rocket Man with some of our best sap? Or not- as I seem to recall that Kim Chee has cabbage and vinegar in it- not quite pancake or waffle quality!)

(I say that LIE-berals ought to wake up and smell the explosives! We don’t necessarily need to run out and buy a pack of missiles that might- if the world is lucky- rust in place- without ever being fired. But we really ought to make more effort to limit illegal immigration and the infiltration of Muslim terrorists into Canada- from which position they can attack us and our Yankee neighbours as well! That one simple effort would do much to placate Yankees and greatly reduce Yankee hostility to NAFTA as they are worried they will import Muslim terror along with the Cdn softwood and dairy products! Yankees might even be willing to shoot down some missiles aimed our way if we actually treated them fairly and seriously for once on military matters that are within our budget! How sad that LIE-beral lust for power at any price means Our idiot Boy will not cooperate with Yankees on local Muslim terror issues- but he WILL whine about Yankees getting pissed at us hiding behind them as usual!)

NO! This is a useless program. To show how particularly useless it is, during tests, one missile missed its intercept point by 400 miles!!! Thats right 400 miles! Hows that for accuracy ;)
