Wynne to Brown: Retract or face legal action
The Canadian Press

Premier Kathleen Wynne is asking the leader of the Opposition to retract comments he made about her or face legal action.
Wynne is testifying as a witness on Wednesday in a trial in Sudbury for two former Liberal staffers who are facing bribery charges under the Election Act.
A letter filed today by Wynne’s lawyers says Progressive Conservative Leader Patrick Brown told reporters Tuesday that Wynne was standing trial in the bribery case.
The letter goes on to say that Wynne is not on trial or even under investigation, but is rather offering voluntary testimony and co-operating with the court process.
It also demands Brown retract and apologize for the remarks just as another Conservative member of the provincial legislature — Bill Walker — did last week after being issued a similar legal notice.
Walker told a local radio station Wynne was under investigation and facing charges in connection with the bribery trial. Days later, he went back on the air to correct the statement and apologize for the remarks.
Brown’s office did not contest the leader’s remarks, but said he immediately tried to clarify them when speaking to the media. A more detailed response from Brown is expected later today.

Brown says he’ll ignore threats of legal action over comments

PC Leader Patrick Brown is not sorry.
Although he was not repeating them Thursday, Brown has refused to retract or apologize for remarks he made regarding Premier Kathleen Wynne’s testimony at the alleged job bribery trial in Sudbury.
Wynne’s lawyers have threatened to sue Brown, saying he told reporters that she was on trial, instead of making it clear that she was a voluntary witness for the Crown.
Brown had until 5 p.m. Thursday to make a public retraction, and it wasn’t immediately known what action the premier’s lawyers would take.
“I will ignore her baseless threat,” Brown said. “It’s a sorry spectacle for Ontario to see the sitting Premier of Ontario humiliated in this fashion, debased in this fashion, and she’s compounded the problem by this threat yesterday.”
Wynne testified Wednesday at a trial where her former chief of staff Pat Sorbara and local Liberal organizer Gerry Lougheed are charged in connection with allegations made by a former byelection candidate that he was offered a job or appointment to vacate the race for preferred candidate Glenn Thibeault.
Wynne told the court that no such bribe was made, but the Liberals did attempt to keep thwarted candidate Andrew Olivier in the party.
Both Lougheed and Sorbara have said they did nothing wrong, and Wynne was not a subject of the investigation.
But Brown said her testimony was a “sad day for Ontario ... Seeing the Premier of Ontario having to testify at a trial where there’s allegations against her closest advisor, no one regardless of your political allegiances want to see the Premier of Ontario humiliated in that light.”
Deputy Premier Deb Matthews said the PC Leader’s refusal to apologize was “enormously disappointing.”
There’s a principle that one should not make defamatory, misleading comments about another political leader, she said.
“In Canada, we actually expect people to be honest,” Matthews said. “There is south of the border a change in that culture. I do not want to see that change coming to Canada.”
Brown’s apology would “take 30 seconds” and he’d be done with it, she said.

Haha what a bunch of bs that comment about honesty. Even justin trudeau makes carefully worded statements that are effectively dishonest. Remember the carbon tax vs carbon price bs that he was panhandling?

but said he immediately tried to clarify them when speaking to the media.

As soon as I heard the Premier say to the leader of the Opposition: "I'm gonna sue!" I knew that she is guilty of something. She doth protest way, way too much.

Brown says F-U, Dyke-Bitch.

Man, Walter, you have a real hangup about people's sexuality. You should come out of the closet, maybe then you would relax.

You have a real issue with women, all you can do is insult them because of their thighs or sexual orientation.

In the bush near Sudbury
Screw that.... Don't retract. A standing room only court house, her "I don't know" and "I can't remember" answers and her hasty retreat back to Sudbury airport says she knows damned well her policies - if not actually her - are on trial

Wynne 'disappointed' by unapologetic PC leader
By Antonella Artuso, Queen's Park Bureau Chief

The ‘not sorry’ saga continued at Queen’s Park Friday as a legal stare down between Premier Kathleen Wynne and Progressive Conservative Leader Patrick Brown.
Jennifer Beaudry, a spokesperson for Wynne, expressed disappointment in Brown’s unapologetic response to demands that he withdraw his “false and defamatory” statement about the Premier.
“While Patrick Brown refuses to apologize, we are encouraged that media coverage and public discussion over the last 48 hours has covered just how wrong and misleading his comments were,” Beaudry said in a statement. “We continue to consider all of our options at this point in time, and will govern ourselves by the timelines set out in the Libel and Slander Act.”
Wynne has threatened legal action against Brown, demanding he apologize for saying that she was on trial in the ongoing court case in the Sudbury job bribery scandal.
Her former chief of staff and a senior party organizer are on trial, although both have said they did nothing wrong, for allegedly offering a job or appointment to move a would-be Liberal byelection candidate aside for a preferred candidate, Glenn Thibeault.
Wynne testified this week as a willing Crown witness.
Nick Bergamini, a spokesperson for Brown, said Friday in a statement that the Liberals’ legal threat will be disregarded.
“No one, whatever their political view, wants to see the Premier of our province debased through participation in a corruption trial. Regrettably, Kathleen Wynne compounded this sorry spectacle with baseless legal threats against Patrick Brown,” he said. “These threats will be ignored. We as a province need to put this ugly chapter behind us and move on.”
Wynne had previously launched a $2 million libel suit against former PC Leader Tim Hudak and then PC energy critic Lisa MacLeod for comments they made in connection with the cancelled gas plant scandal.
The Premier subsequently dropped the case, after Hudak failed to lead his party to victory in the 2014 general election and quit politics, and a joint statement acknowledged the debate had become “personal.”

Matthews 7:1 reads:

“Do not judge a woman’s thighs, or you too will gain weight and be judged by small minded right wing nutjobs. Neither insult people based on their orientation, for it is a sin to be a complete moron in the manner of Walter.”

Typical Liberal bait and switch...they've got it down to an art form...

Wynne will do anything to try to take the spotlight off of the corruption testimony, and drop it at the feet of Patrick Brown.

Oh, see how nasty that bad Conservative man is?? Pay attention to that cad and his cruel remarks, and forget about how disgraceful and dishonorable I am.
