We had a case east of Toronto in which a schizophrenic ran amok in the street- stark naked and swinging a big table leg and trying to crush the skulls of passers by!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And people were distressed by this behaviour - after all- who wants to take the dog for a walk or stand at a bus stop while the naked crazy man tries to crush your skull!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So the cops were called and 2 showed up and tried the usual stuff- you know- put down the table leg, lay on the ground and etc!!!!!!!
Later at the inquest- the family testified that not only was the guy a schizophrenic- but that he was also epileptic and was very likely in the middle of a Grand Mal Seizure as well when cops showed up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And of course when cops showed up the guy tried to crush THEIR SKULLS with his table leg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And he got shot for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SO in light of your insistence that cops need to de-escalate situations- please tell us what those 2 cops could have said that would get the attention and cooperation of a crazy man who thinks the voices in his head are MORE REAL than the cops shouting stand back and put down the table leg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
