Back to the subject at hand......
If I remember my European history (and I do

) the TOTAL number of witches executed (usually hanged, BTW) was somewhat less than 150,000 in Europe AND the Americas over the 300 year period between 1400 and 1700. Between 75 and 85 % of these would have been women.
A "women's holocaust"? Hardly. Idiotic, nasty, tragic, ignorant? Yes.
I have to say that it is also a mistake to compare the oppression of Jews to any other genocidal occurrance in modern history. Jews were not only murdered by the Germans in WW II, they suffered immensely throughout modern history in Europe. The Polish underground generally refused to help in the uprisings by Jews against German oppression. When asked why, one resistence leader answered "After the war, we won't have a Jewish problem."
Jews were plagued in eastern Europe by repeated pogroms, their ghettoes were be assaulted for no reason by gangs intent on robbery, rape and wholesale slaughter. Jews were blamed for everything from infanticide to crop failure, and Jews often paid with their lives. When the Black Death came to Europe (killing at LEAST 35% of the population between 1347 and 1351) jews were held responsible over a large part of Europe, and many places completely expunged their Jewish population with fire and sword.
This repeated itself as the pandemic continued in 10 or 20 year cycles.
No other people I know of has suffered such oppression over so many centuries.......and that should not be belittled.
