strange, I just checked mine, and it is turned off. This means I was asked during the installation as to whether or not I wanted to do it and I chose no. In other words, anybody that has it turned on wasn't paying attention to what they were doing when installing the software. I don't feel sorry for them at all, and I sure as hell am not blaming Microsoft for something that you have a choice on using or not.

I guess Microsoft, and anybody else who uses fine print in their agreements, wasn't banking on the world being as bright as you gerr.

Why would downloading the updates at the fastest rate possible bother me? Speed is why I have broadband in the first place. If I was worried about 'sharing those files' I would turn the computer off when I'm not using it. Or at the very least disable the net connection during the time the 'screensaver' was activated. Since you have to install the updates you have the files on you hd. How do you delete them? (this is a skill testing question as checking the 'system files' option is also an option.

C: drive/ right click properties/disk cleanup/ clean up system files.

If you keep that empty (clean it after an update) there are no files to share, but then you knew that right?

I don't recall gerr posting the tip about opting out of the sharing files thing when he did his installation so what good was he to 'the group'?

Was that straight from the VLC website, if it was it sound like you have some malware. (either that or the security setting got set too far one way or the other)
Quick time is supposed to be corrupt and no fixes are planned.
