Will the Conservative/right wing parties fade out?

Well, if you're a conservative I think it does. If I was a Liberal at 35 I wouldn't want to be told I have no brain. Would you?

Being a conservative myself, I have been called far worse...you tend to get over it.

I still think it applies though...once you start sending half your pay cheque to the government it may become clearer why someone would say that.

Yeah, I can see your reasoning. But you get some things in return, maybe not as much as you like or figured you'd get for that same amount but I guess thats why people get into politics to mold their country into their vision. I'm not in your situation yet but I feel my values will still come before a price tag. Not thats your's dont, or maybe a price tag is what you value. To each is own.

I'm glad you have values and don't feel that a price tag will breech them....

I do get some things in return for my taxes, this is true, but I don't pay taxes for me....I pay taxes to help run our country and to help the poor.

I wish I knew more about parties history, their blunders and success' to be able to understand some of the users comments on here. I shouldn't use age as an excuse but I do as I would find it much easier to remember from experience. I guess I should do research but...
From what I grasp though or have heard mostly is that Conservatives have a bad record, especially in Ontario. Whether that is true or not or just what I've heard on TV or from parents, I'm not sure. As for the entire country I'm not sure. I've only recently become interested in politics and Liberals have only been in power. As for them, what I know, I would say they have done an okay job. This could be my ignorance completely, but I'm able and willing to learn!

RE: Will the Conservative

The Conservatives have a very bad record, especially in Ontario, of helping poor people or running social programs that help the less fortunate in society. They aren't exactly stellar at balancing budgets either.

You should learn the history of the parties though, lefthour. There was a time when Canadian politics were a lot more nuanced and interesting. That ended when the Reform/Alliance/Conservatives started using Republican-style attack politics, including the overblown rhetoric and dishonesty, to attack everybody they considered "left".

They used as an example the methods of religious right and the Reaganites and tried to turn "liberal" into a dirty word the way it been done in the US. Since Canadians generally consider themselves to be fairly liberal, and all polling data on issues points to us moving farther "left" as a population, most Canadians have refused to support the Conservatives.

If you look at the political spectrum right now, you have the Liberals (who have basically moved into the spot that the Mulroney PCs used to occupy), the NDP (who have remained slightly left of centre), and the BQ (who occupy approximately the same part of the spectrum as the NDP).
Those three parties garner the majority of the vote in Canada every election because they are (or in the case of Liberals are perceived to be) left of centre.

The Conservatives continue to use the Republicans in the US as their model though, and have actually moved to the right on many issues since Preston Manning stepped down as leader. The result is that Canadian politics are headed for the same kind of divisive politics that we see in the US right now.

I think it will eventually lead to the right splintering into several small, ineffectual parties in the end. They have a history of ripping themselves apart every few years.

Everything Young People Need to Know About the Conservatives: by Vanni Fucci

At times, I find it difficult to describe how incredibly fly eaten shitty the Conservatives are. I mean rock-hard fly eaten shit. Dehydrated-rock-hard fly eaten shit. Shit so fly eaten that it goes way beyond the fly eaten shit we know into a whole different dimension of fly eaten shit. They are trans-fly eaten, shit. Meta-fly eaten shit. Fly eaten shit collapsed on itself so far that even the neutrons have collapsed. Fly eaten shit gotten so dense that no intellect and decency can escape. Singularity fly eaten shit. Blazing hot mid-day sun on Mercury fly eaten shit. They emit more fly eaten shit in one second than our entire galaxy emits in a year. Quasar fly eaten shit. They are disgustingly fly eaten shit-sucking trolls. Nothing in our universe can really be this fly eaten or shitty. Perhaps this is some primordial fragment from the original big bang of fly eaten shit. Some pure essence of a fly eaten shit so uncontaminated by anything else as to be beyond the laws of physics that we know. They are the epiphany of fly eaten shit to me. Fuck the fly eaten shit Conservatives!

Oh, is that so.....

We wouldn't be in so much trouble if we didn't have to float this nation. Must be nice to sit back and enjoy the fruits of some other province's labour.

We just do it in a profitable way. :p

To say Ontario Conservatives don't help the less fortunate is like saying Ontario doesn't exist. Conservatives make up half of the governments that have existed in Ontario, and we give 20 or so billion dollars a year to float this country, and we get shit on....I say then, since this is the case, we should pull our funding, and let the country fall to pieces. Screw it.

I think not

Well, you all have so much to say, and its all very helpful. I prefer politics to stay clean, no name calling or this guy slept with this girl or this girl with this girl or guy with this guy. It just wastes tax payers money.

One thing I'd really like to know more about though is what the NDP did while in power in Ontario.

I've always liked the NDP becasue of their ability to stay on topic and not mud sling as much as the other parties seem to.

especially when the mud slinging does not interest anyone, and they see it for what it is...keep thinking for yourself lefthour. whatever you decide will be right for you. I am impressed by your maturity...can't say I want any :p but impressive now the less :p
