Will Dr Who-little save Earth?

Master stroke ... villain cages a shrunken and aged Doctor as aliens
attack the earth, bottom left inset. Right: David Tennant

By COLIN ROBERTSON
June 30, 2007

DOCTOR Who will need a mature head if he’s to stop the evil Master taking over the world in the series finale.

But perhaps being aged 100 years and shrunk by the laser screwdriver of his enemy (John Simm) was not quite what he had in mind.

The Doctor (David Tennant) is helpless when trapped in a bird cage.

So it’s up to trusty sidekick Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman), who teams up with the resistance, to save the earth from the evil Toclafane aliens.

The Last of The Time Lords is on BBC1 at 7.05pm tonight.

I am a huge Doctor Who fan just like you are, DocDred(I have a lot of the DVD releases of the older "Stories"), but I have yet to see Season 3 of the new series. I have the first two or three episodes taped, but have yet to watch them. Tennant is a good Doctor, but I preferred Eccleson.

I am not sure if you collect these or not, but a lot of the older Doctor Who stories are available on DVD. A lot of the first stories are not available to place on DVD as the BBC destroyed a lot of the old film to make room for other film roles(small amount of room and whatnot). However, a lot of stories(and some individual episodes of various stories) were found in various people's private collections, and copies were made for the BBC.

The BBC then made copies of these stories, and a company was used(and some of them were volunteers) to either remaster the quality of the episodes, or to add new scenes and/or better versions of scenes from before. A good example of this would be the Story "Earthshock", where the afore-mentioned company created CGI upgrades of the weapons-fire and other scenes.

If you don't already have any of these stories, I would highly recommend them.

You can get the stories for pretty cheap, most of them are usually in the $20-$30 range(and have 4 episodes per Story).

A good site to check out for more info(at least price, and what Stories are available) is(since I am not certain if this site is allowed since it is now owned((at least in part)) by tvguide.com...

tvshowsondvd.com

I usually order mine from CD Plus, but I have also seen some at Futureshop.

Yeah, I don't understand CBC's reluctance to show the Christmas episodes in a timely manner. I believe the Christmas Invasion is available on the Season 1 DVD boxset, and the Runaway Bride is available on the Season 2 DVD boxset. I might be mistaken about which set has which special.

I used to enjoy the old Dr Who shows. The Daleks are probably the greatest villains in all of literary history as they were the only villains in literature who tried to conquer the universe through evolutionary methods when revolutionary attempts failed.

Yup, inspired by salt and pepper shakers.
LOL!!!! never looked at em like that....now their ruined for me.I'll never be able to be frightened by em again...
But that was the old doctor who ...all story and character and very low budget....My wife once really made fun of one of the monsters...she said there running away from a plastic garbage bag...which wasn't true it was more like 5 plastic garbage bags rolled into one giant scary monster.....

No Doctor Who tonight. Three episodes in and they are already pre-empting them for other programs. In this case it was soccer/football.:-(

Yup -- it's a true story!

Terry Nation was in a London coffee shop and saw a set of salt and pepper shakers on his table. This is what inspired the creation of the Daleks.

Here's an even bigger story:

Dr Who debut on the day after President Kennedy was assassinated. The British crowd was furious that BBC presented such a frivolous show on this sad day and demanded that the show be taken off the air forever.

Two weeks later the Daleks made their initial appearance on the show. When that happened, the Brits withdrew their demand.

Dr Who remains the longest running show in TV history!
