Why is food more expensive in BC?

Thanks for this.

So where in BC are these farms located.

Since I'm still researching where to live, I want a town that is near these farms.

I wouldn't travel an hour just to buy food, that's just too much.

Thanks

Michelle

I think you have to make up your mind. You want to be near the Superstore and near the farms. You are not going to have both. Having said that, you can drive right across Nanaimo in twenty minutes to half an hour depending on traffic.

Farms are scattered all across B.C. the biggest concentration being the Fraser Valley, Peace River, E. coast Vanvouver Island & Saanich Peninsula, Nechako River, Okanagan and the Cariboo.

Maybe that's the case out in ALL of BC, but over here it's NOT. I'm 25 minutes from a Superstore & there are farms all around me.

Well I don't know, that's why I'm asking & learning.

I will never know if it was just a fluke b/c of the snow BC has had in the last 3-4 years, or there really is snow there on a regular basis.

Thanks for telling me.

Michelle

LOL! You're funny!
Even Vegas gets snow occasionally.
This past winter was the most snow we have ever had. For some reason Mother Nature had inverted weather patterns (here in PA anyway).
There was a ton of snow in town, yet the mountains surrounding us stayed bare.
Maybe next winter it won't snow at all. *shrug* Who knows?

We've lived in Nanaimo now for going on five years. Before Nanaimo we lived on Gabriola Island which is just a few kilometers outside Nanaimo harbor like three miles away. We lived on Gabriola for seven years and four of those seven years we had no snow. We got a pretty good dump of snow in Nanaimo this year but usually we just get a light dusting a couple times over the Winter. Right now my $2.79 Canadian Tire themometer says it is 30 degrees. I like hot weather but this is probably hot enough...;-):p

Off topic question...

Is Shaw the only high speed Internet option in BC?

Does anyone here have experience with Rogers or Cogeco so they can compare Shaw's prices, speeds, uptime, etc.?

What is the company name for cable TV? Is that Shaw too?

Thanks

We use Shaw for high speed internet as well as cable tv. There are other providers like Rogers, or Telus and a few others. Once in a while one of the others puts out a sharper price but we feel we are getting good service making the change is not worth the bother.
