Quebec restricts travel to eight regions, posts police at US border in wake of four more COVID-19 deaths

The Quebec government will begin restricting travel in eight northern and eastern regions of the province as of 4 p.m. and has begun posting police along the province’s border with the United States, Deputy Premier Geneviève Guilbault announced on Saturday as she revealed that four more Quebecers have died from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.
(IS it not IRONIC that even as our federal LIE-beral overlords DECRY the Yankee desire to post troops near the border to intercept illegals who may be infected - our Quebec premier - leader of the Cdn province with the HIGHEST INFECTION RATES is posting COPS at the border to intercept illegals who might be infected!)
The number of deaths in the province reached 22 as of Saturday, Santé Québec announced. The number of confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in Quebec rose to 2,498, while another 6,757 cases were under investigation as of Saturday.
As of 4 p.m., police will set up road controls to ban travel to and from areas in northern and eastern Quebec “to better protect people in these regions,” Guilbault said at a government daily briefing from Quebec City.
(And in another IRONY - the DECISIVE premier Legault is ORDERING people to stay home while Our idiot Boy WHINES at travellers to “do the right thing” and ASKS that they stay home!)
The regions are: Bas–Saint-Laurent, Abitibi–Témiscamingue, Côte-Nord, Nord-du-Québec, Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine, Nunavik and James Bay.
The regions include First Nations communities and have a number of elderly people who are vulnerable, she said.
“So don’t be surprised if you’re intercepted (on the road),” Guilbault said of the eight regions.
Entries and exits in the eight regions will be permitted only for essential services as already defined by the government, Guilbault said. She added that humanitarian workers would be permitted to travel in and out in case of emergency. In the case of flooding, for example, the Red Cross would be permitted to enter a region, she said.

As well, the government has made self-isolation for 14 days a mandatory obligation for any traveller returning to Quebec, Guilbault said. To that end, the government will begin following up to ensure that returning “snow birds” and other people returning from trips are staying at home, she said.
(And the fourth IRONY is that Our idiot Boy only began dealing strictly with travellers AFTER a RAGING PUBLIC made it clear that Pestilence carrying tourists were NOT WELCOME to roam freely in Canada!)
The government dispatched police to begin patrols along the Quebec-U.S. border as of 9 a.m. on Saturday, Guilbault said.
The police are reminding returning travellers about their obligation to stay at home for 14 days, she said. As well, the police are collecting information on the returning travellers “and will follow up” to ensure they’re respecting the order to stay at home, she said.
