Why indeed? In 2008 America was swept up in the false euphoria of a post-racist daydream. Here was a guy, who had a silver tongue, the ability to say absolutely NOTHING, but do it with great aplomb, ably assisted by teleprompters, which are the best allies of genuine phonies.
Nominating a half-white person, (good thing he did not depend on his black progenitors for bread and board) masquarading as a black man was a chatharsis for Americans, ridden by guilt about slavery, the sluggish enactment of the Civil Rights Act (mostly and most vigourously oppsed by Democrats) they were hoping for the world's forgiveness for G.W. Bush.
So, they went ahead and elected a petulant little boy, who never stood for anything in his life (proven by his 131 "present" votes in the Illinois and in the U.S. Senate) Quit his post as a Senator and figured that suddenly Iran would love America, the terrorists will stop terrorizing and the so-called "allies" would come to help American War efforts. From Iran, from terrorists, and also from European "allies" Zerobama got exactly what G.W. Bush ever got: extended middle finger.
He got most of his votes by genuine racist who saw nothing but the colour of his skin.

I never meant blacks, I was referring to democrats since your acusation is they are racist.

And how many black vote does Senator Byrd get when he is up for reelection? Most of them , I bet.
But indeed, that is the ongoing problem for Republicans, they are regarded with suspicion and revulsion by the minorities such as blacks, Asians, Hispanics etc. All kinds of minorities (not just blacks) vote Democratic in large numbers.
So while we don’t know what will happen in 2010 or 2012 elections, the long term prognosis for Republican Party is not good, the number of whites in USA is falling (proportionately), soon whites will be a minority in USA.
Unless Republicans can find some way to attract minorities, they are sunk in the long term. They can’t rely on the white vote indefinitely.

All those people are Republicans, YJ. Democrats have a right to trash them indeed, Democrats are expected to trash them, just as Republicans are expected trash every Democrat.
I really don’t know what you are trying to say here. Are you saying that Democrats must not criticize black Republicans because they are black? That is nonsense. All these people you mentioned are politicians, they are all Republicans. They are fair game for criticism, trashing in the rough and tumble of politics.

He was an exception, Avro. Once in a while a Republican may come along who may attract minority votes. For instance, if Bobby Jindal is the Republican nominee, chances are that he will attract most of the Asian votes.
But such instances are rare, usually the minorities vote Democratic. And that indeed is a long term problem for Republicans.
Avro, I looked up Bush’s Hispanic vote in 2004. He got 44% of Hispanic vote. No doubt that was one of the best performances by a Republican. But even then, please note that he did not get majority of Hispanic votes.
So it is really revealing of how minorities feel about Republicans, how poorly Republicans do with minorities in general, when if a Republican gets 44% of Hispanic votes, that is considered a stellar performance.
Incidentally, in 2000 he got 35% Hispanic votes, in line with the usual Republican share.
