Speaking of debates, I would like to watch them, but damn I get frustrated when the entire crew start trying to talk over one another.

I hope this time the moderator has the ability simply to shut off the mikes of everyone except the person speaking.

Or else they hire someone with a black jack to stand behind the debaters........speak out of turn POW....out of the debate 'til you come around.


Not the Rev, though, everybody but Jack would be out cold for the whole program.

It's a lot better than the Conservative push-poll Mrs. Rev took last night, Colpy.

Besides, between his robotic speaking style and to his agenda hidden, how much can Harper possibly accomplish?

Speaking of which, do you know who the poll was for?

This is one of the reasons I try (and it is hard) to ignore the damn things.

Everybody has an agenda.

I think Jack Layton and Gilles Duceppe will do quite well. Martin will play it safe and Harper, I have no clue. He is not very good at debating or public speaking, if anything he may sink himself as he can not think as fast as others.

how can you tell what a poll is for,and who, is by the questions put to you. The one i had recently just asked me if i intended to vote for Harper,and when i started laughing, thanked me for my time and hung up

I've come to the conclusion

that all polls handicap the respondents to some degree. On this topic's poll I unintentionally left out one option. Every poll gives either/or choices when your position might be somewhere in the middle. The topic question, when there is only one, has to be well thought out.

They will kill the mics for everybody but the one who is supposed to be speaking. Unfortunately, they are still allowing cue cards and prepared statements.

Duceppe will pound Martin for votes and Harper for sport (pounding Harper in Quebec is almost as good as pounding Bush). Layton will split his time between Martin and Harper going after them both for health care, BMD, Iraq and likely Afghanistan. Harper has to concentrate mostly on Martin because he needs support in Ontario so badly, but will go after Layton on issues he considers western. artin will try to make Harper look even scarier than he really is in an attempt to pick up NDP votes.

Speaking of which, do you know who the poll was for?

They never said...it was one of those, "My name is Jason and I'd like to ask you some questions," things. It wouldn't have been any of the major polling companies though. Even those with a definite bias wouldn't risk their reputations on such an obvious push poll.

In an honest poll you can't. You may be able to perceive some bias, but even then you aren't sure unless you are very familiar with the polling company and their political leanings. Push polls aren't honest though. They are designed to get certain answers and to canvass the person being polled for their vote. This one was worded so that unless you picked the Conservative answer, you felt like you were giving the wrong answer. Mrs. Rev was laughing when she took it, it was so obvious.

Martin, Layton are pre-debate favourites: poll

Prime Minister Paul Martin and NDP Leader Jack Layton go into Thursday and Friday's debates in Vancouver as the presumed best performers.

Meanwhile, Conservative Leader Stephen Harper and Bloc Quebecois Leader Gilles Duceppe are the underdogs.

However, pollster Tim Woolstencroft of The Strategic Counsel told CTV.ca on Tuesday: "That means the expectations are higher for Martin and lower for Harper."

As a result, Martin has to do better than Harper, he said.

"We did some analysis and it shows expectations among vote-switchers are higher for Martin than they are for Harper," Woolstencroft said.[/end of teaser]

I think Strategic "Conservative Party" Counsel is wrong. I think Jack Layton and Gilles Duceppe will be the best performers with Harper being dead last.

The debates will simply be a re-run of Question Period on Parliament Hill.

Not a contest for content but rather for debating skills.

I expect to hear the word "strong" used by all the leaders.

Canadians dislike a government which fails to consult the electorate on major issues, but still insist on a "strong" leader with a majority government. Pretty retarded, I think.

Duceppe was the winner in both French and English last time out, with Martin and Layton tied for second.

Harper is going to be interesting to watch this time. Last time it was strictly his policy. This time he has to argue for party policy, which he may or may not fully agree with.

The other television networks will be the winner. I don't even know if I'll watch and I'm a political junkie. We've seen these fellows in the House of Commons for the last few years and...yawn...no intention of watching them push the party fluff.

If I'm home, it'll depend on what else is on the TV. I have no intention of watching Layton smirk for an hour, Harper trying to keep awake or Martin grabbing the edge of the poding in case he falls over.

The best format would have been to make Duceppe the moderator and the guy asking the questions. He's the onlt one who with any debating skills.
