Where did my Canada go???

I looked around, and my Canada is gone. Sure, there's traces here and there, but somehow, it got lost. Why do I think so?

Hi, I'm a youth jail guard. I want to make sure that you know that if you decide to strangle yourself, in a cry for help, that we'll stand at your cell door, watching, so that we don't have to fill out paperwork.

My friend, he's a Search and Rescue co-ordinator. He tells me that, any time you're lost and in trouble, all you have to do is make a big 'SOS' sign, and they'll be sure to call a couple of motels to see if anything's up.

God forbid, though, that you threaten someone with an office stapler. We'll kill you, for sure.

PS - anybody seen my Canada? It's long gone, and this is what we're left with.

I'm assuming this is a hypothetical situation you refer to. All hell breaks loose in a facility where anyone commits suicide and people are on suicide watch anytime there is a hint of it. No one wants this to happen on their watch.

I agree with you here. This should never have happened and I believe many sources were responsible. The worst source - funding. I believe there should be huge fines for anyone skiing out of bounds (or boarding or even hiking)and those fines should be given directly to the search and rescue.

Until today, I argued this point over and over. While I still don't believe the officers should be charged I do agree they got carried away. I think the officer who ordered the taser shooter to shoot again and the taser shooter should both be given this: The OIC should be penalized by being taken off duty for 6 months without pay. The shooter was doing as he was ordered but he was not ordered to shoot that many times and he's obviously lying so he should be penalized by being returned to training for the full 6 months. The other two should just continue on with their duties.

Our Canada is long gone and it has been for a very long time. You will never see it again and what you have cited above only touches the little things. Allowing people from other countries to dictate how we will run our country is what allowed this country to lose it's identity and we sit back and do little to nothing about it. We are even (some of us because I refuse to do it) stupid enough to give and return the response of "Happy Holidays" during a time we always said "Merry Christmas". People do this with pride all the while patting themselves on the back because they believe they are showing how un-biased they are. That isn't un-biased. It's turning your back on your own country. We threw the towel in long ago. We are way too politically correct now. It's one thing to accept new people into our country. It's quite another to hand it over.

IslandPacific, you know I strongly disagree. Do not take my comments as a personal attack, but we need more sensitivity not less!

No, not so much hypothetical as pitiful.

Back at you Spade. We do need more sensitivity but not in the way you want it. People moving to this country need to become Canadian. They expect us to bend to their will. I don't think the Edmonton area sees as much of it as other parts of BC and AB do. I think ON also sees it's share. I am all for multiculturalism in the sense that I welcome all newcomers to Canada. But and it's a big But - I want them to take on Canada as their country for what we are and not what is politically correct or for what they want to change it to. We hear stories all the time about how they want to move here because they want to live in a better country - a free country. Then they want us to change our rules to suit them and to run our lives they way they lived them in their country of origin. It cannot be both ways. I want Canada to stay as it was. I don't want to live with or by their rules. I still say that if they cannot live with our rules (laws) then they should return to their country of origin. You were born in Canada. I would think that at some point your family came here from another country but you are not looking to this country to change for you. My roots are both. Some from Ireland and yes - some from this country. I have some native roots (First Nations) and for my Irish roots - I don't even know what they might have been but probably not far off what I grew up with here in Canada. My Dad was born in the USA and my Mom in Canada. Dad's parents in Ireland, Mom's in Canada but all grandparents, save one, born in the British Isles. Until I go back far enough that GG grandparents on one side were born in Canada and this is their origin. First Nations. I want the Canada I grew up in. Not the Canada we have now. Political correctness has gone way too far.

As a side note, why is sensitivity not recipricol. Any time any debate like this comes up, that always boils down as the crux of the matter.

You wanna give people Eid ul-Fitr off for a big feast and consumer ***** spending and bad childrens plays, you won't catch much flak. Instead say we shouldn't have Christmas tree's up or bad children's plays about Christmas and you get another story.

Exactly!
PS to IP,
You speak of "freedom." Freedom is not "You're free as long as you behave as I say!"
Freedom is ephemeral; Canada never was "free."
Will you explain why you think Canada never was/is free. I am not telling anyone to behave as I say. All countries have rules. New people to this country should not make any attempt to change those rules to the rules of their country of origin. That's all I am saying. You know how I feel about things like - if the job you feel like doing doesn't suit your religious beliefs, then choose another job. Don't try to change the job to suit your needs by pulling the politically correct card out. You don't have to leave. Just choose a different job or a different game. Don't change the rules.

I can say this on any page so I'll choose here. Thanks for setting the pages up so that after a post we go straight to the top. It helps to see all the new postings and to give a better response.

It is a more just and equitable society now than in the past. Is it "free"? Well, you and I may differ on our definitions. i do not wish to bring up, again, the hard-won rights of minorities (Women, Jews, Slavs, Blacks, Amerinds, Labour, Hutterites, Doukhobors, Mennonites, East Indians, Chinese and other East Asians, and so on). A mere 50 years ago, many who were born in Canada were denied the right to vote in Canada and in your province, BC.

I just find it ironic (And, IP, I am not lecturing you) that many who experienced bigotry and inequality as youth have turned to pile-on new scapegoats today. Turn-about is not fair play. If anything, those who experienced injustice should be more accommodating, not less.

As far as assimilation is concerned, truthfully, and I live in a multiethnic city, I have yet to meet anyone, beyond one or two advocates, who have not bent over backwards to be accepted by the larger community.

Where did Molson's go?

Molson's, and jobs.

Woops, forgot. We have JOBS JOBS JOBS..........Who said that??? I forget. Anyways, it's true, cause "he" said it. And the Mulrooo (let the cat outa the bag), would NEVER lie.

All gone south or to China.

For a bit, a while back, the Americans thought they had it right by the short and curlies, what with all our jobs bleeding their way. Now, a goodly number of those have gone further South.

NOW, there's rumblings about Mexico's economy collapsing. By Jeez, I'm throwin a party if that happens................Nah, the CEO's will still get their bonuses.

Guess they forgot, no one can buy their ****, if they ain't no jobs fer "us" to make money to spend on ****..................get's right confusin, don'it.

:angry3:......what a revoltin development this is, Ollie.

Exactly. anybody who does not like their job for whatever reason has an option. They can quit and get another job
