This is basically what I have been saying all along. It comes down to the parent being properly involved with their kids. Too many are not. It's like the brain dead parents blaming movies for their kids behaviour...... MONITOR WHAT YOUR DAMN KIDS ARE DOING AND TAKE AN ACTIVE ROLL IN PARENTING!

Agreed.

When I lived in Sooke, BC, in the 1980's, local kids used to threaten their parents with calling a social worker if parents tried to discipline them. I blame the courts. Senior appellate court justices, who would have considered it socially demeaning to have appeared in family court when they were lawyers, consistently declined to reign in social workers on the "they must be right," principle. The child protection ministries are routinely authoritarian, small "p" political, pick on minorities and think of themselves as beyond criticism.

My oldest tried that once so I packed up a suitcase for him and told him to say goodbye to his Mom & brother because he was going to foster care. He backed down pretty quick.

The parents can make all the difference in the world....

First, stop raising a generation of pu$$ies. Then teach your children how to defend themselves (mine learned Kokushinki), lastly make sure they know you are 150% behind them if they have to bust a bully's nose or jaw.

My boys knew from early on they were never to start a fight but were to finish it quickly & permanently if someone else started it.

The kind of bullying that drives kids to suicide is rarely physical. It's usually the emotional terrorism that does kids in.

That is why you can block people on facebook and other social media. An ipod with noise-cancelling earbuds is a great defense for the school hallway. Of course like Gerry says, being involved with your kids and talking with them ans proactive parenting goes a long, long way.

When my son came home from school one day and pulled the 'you've abused us' card, I sat them down and graphically explained actual child abuse to my kids. They were mortified. The idea of someone hitting someone else specifically to inflict damage had never occurred to them.

My oldest pulled similar shyte in the mid 80's. The schools were teaching that kids had "rights" and they were taught to call zenith123 if they were abused at home. He informed me, after I grounded him and smacked his a$$ that he was gonna call and I would be going to jail. So I threw the phone to him and told him to go for it. He looked at me shocked. I told him to pick up the phone, so he did. I then let him know that if he was gonna be telling them that I "abused" him, then I would make sure he wasn't lieing before they got there. If I was going to go to jail for abusing him, then I would make sure it actually happened. Needless to say he never called and never threatened that again.

which is what she should have done.
