What's the white rap connection?

"Obviously you don't know much about hip hop...other than what IS under the media gun. Why isn't Anderson Cooper reporting on the influential artists who are taking a positive approach...folks who treat the form as a true art? Where is he on that one?"

Snfu, do you live in a closet? All the key US news journalism shows I watch have had positive input from industry reps in the last couple of weeks.
What puzzles me is your bias that hiphop is a "true art" form. How in the name of anything that might possibly make sense in this universe did you get to that assumption? I'm listenin'....
What...do you think the only hip hop artists out there are 50 cent cookie cutter artists? You bet...there is some rap and hip hop that has negative messages...BUT, you are basically saying that ALL hip hop and rap does...and that is crap. In fact, there is a large native hip hop "scene" if you will in Canada that focuses on positive messages, healing, and dealing with past issues between natives and europeans. There are people like K-os...with some pretty positive lyrics, amazing rhyming abilities, etc. And that, for the most part, is where hip hop and rap started...a sped up version of street poetry...and there are some very good representatives of that. Not all rap and hip hop is guys with big chains, booty shaking girls and guns. And this is what I am trying to argue more than anything...that your generic stereotypes of stuff is getting old and tiresome.

Besides...why focus on music reps...focus on the music. This whole same thing has happened with music for decades now...from Ozzy to Twisted Sister to the whole straight edge deal to...whatever...and, of course, the focus is always on the SHOCKING and the EXTREME...that's what makes people like Anderson Cooper so popular! People like him are relied on to tell america what is scary...and they are more than abliged to find the scary stuff...and forget to mention the positive role models, or the real artists, or what have you....

Oh, and by the way, if you think rap is bad....

Ahhhhh...check out those cute little girls in prussian blue...aren't they great! Wow. Yup.

...anyway, the point is, can you say that all folk or celtic or fiddle music is horribly racist and messed up after watching the fine young girls in prussian blue? Doubt it. So, why paint all hip hop or urban music or rap or whatever with one brush? It's ridiculous. Just as it is to say that all hardcore or metal bands are racist dicks like the other bands in the fine youtube video.

"What's that, 'wiggar'?"
LOL maybe they meant wonkey ?

Where to begin with a reply to this , First of all what was said before about all rap and hip hop not being violent is true but most people who critique don't bother listen they ignore the positive and focus on the negative , this is not due to a misunderstanding or lack of knowledge but it's due to a primal need to make rap hip hop and by extension black people look bad . It is true that as stated white kids are the main consumers of rap but that is in no way a boon since it's raised rap's profile and opened the door to all sorts of bigots making all sorts of accusations . Now let me explain I;am in no way racist towards anybody but the truth of the matter is that rap was created as a form of black expression at a time of rampant oppression .Now its become commercial targeted towards those same white kids there are still a lot of good rhymes out there that point out inequalities and seek to embarrass and expose the PC public institutions that still practice racism today . Rap comes in two kinds songs of struggle (Me against the world 2pac , thugs mansion 2Pac , Still i rise 2Pac , Brenda has a baby 2 Pac , Express yourself NWA , ghetto akon ........)
And other songs about bitches hoes cars and money what people seem to forget is that most of it is ENTERTAINMENT as in it's fictional and meant for your enjoyment .When I hear a song like that i listen to the beat if i like it i listen because i understand that it is fictional , ignorant people love to rip rap lyrics to point out how violent and backward we are it's old time people got over it , why your kids listen to it i dunno maybe because the youngest members of your society are mature enough to realise that it's fiction . FICTION

As for the stop snitching stuff again another example of someone with an axe to grind picking up on the mundane and turning it into a central issue . The fact is that ideas like that stem from the distrust of the police . Again i don't mean to be racist but white people speak of the police as if they are angels sent from god to guard the helpless , while to you a man in uniform is a source of protection and security to me a cop is at best a hassle and at worst a threat to my life . Not too long ago a young 23 year old black man's car was shot full of 50 bullets 50 ! He had no gun or anything that would resemble one and he was not suspected of a violent crime nor with a criminal history . Things like this are extremes of course what i'am trying to point out is that while i understand that there are some decent cops out there all I as a young black man ever receive from the police is harassment . Don't belive me ? Lets run and experiment I want you to think for a bit and tell me how many times you've been pulled over by the fuzz in the last 6 months , since jan i've been pulled over 10 times , 10 TIMES ! I do not drive a moded car and i don't drive fast yet i constantly get pulled over by white police officers , do you wanna know how many tickets i've been given 1 that's right in only one instant was there an actual reason for my stop , think about it how many times have you been pulled over and asked what your doing ? where are you headed ? where you coming from ? I doubt anyone of you gets these questions and has to put up with this harassment do you really wonder why i and others don' trust cops , a cop might be the very last thing i see in this world ! Again i know extreme and dramatic but I get constantly picked on by the police for no reason other than i'am young and black and like wearing a hat when i'am out .

Bottom Line : Hip Hop was created despite the white masses and will continue to exist despite your attacks , so for all the moaning parents out there how about taking some responsibility for your children's development instead of whining about rap .

P.S Glen Beck's kids probably listen to rap and that pisses him the hell off poor bugger .

That Elvis should be shot from the waist up only Ed.
Alice Cooper, isn't she that girl with the nice song about a roller skate key?
The Beatles are talking to me through their albums. Now go kill everyone at the Tate mansion so we can get this war started.
Ozzy Osbourne is telling kids to go commit suicide for Satan!
Heavy Metal is teaching kids to be violent.
Judas Priest and Dee Snyder are turning kids into murdering rapists.
Marilyn Manson sang a song that made the Columbine killers go on the rampage.
If you sync the Dark Side Of The Moon to the lions roar in the Wizard of Oz it changes the whole meaning of the movie.

As a basically gullible person I fear what I don't know or don't understand.
If someone tells me what I think may be dangerous, is a threat to me, I know that it is a thousand times more dangerous than I thought. Especially if attacking it causes problems for someone but not me.

Don't worry you Rap and Hip Hop fans, some day those cute kids you have turned onto the great beats, rhymes and mixes will turn their back on you and listen intently to what you will consider to be at best stupid and most often insipid derivative drivel and they will love it. They will compare it to the "classic" stuff you still listen to and tell you that it's the most important piece of music of our time. If you have gained the wisdom imparted in your own music, you will know that it's best to nod and smile and enjoy that they have found something in life to lift them up and feel a part of. And take that with your as you and your music slide in to the realms of Jazz, Blues, Rock and Roll, and so on as it has been for an eternity. Even though you can't stand that racket.

I haven't been pulled over that many times in my life and when I drive on the highway 120 is not an uncommon speed for me. Where are you from?
