Of those problems, two stand out. One is the pack mentality. For a profession that prides itself on its independence, journalists are a remarkably conformist lot, reluctant to stray too far from what their peers are saying. Freedom of speech is vital for a free society. The principle behind freedom of speech, however, isn’t simply the ability to scream and shout down opinions we don’t like.
The purpose of free expression is tied to our ability to debate and to engage in civil discourse with our fellow Canadians — including those with whom we disagree.
(The motivation behind the concept of free speech is that its supposed to allow the bets and most logical ideas to be presented to a society that values logic and efficiency so the best social outcome will be available to the greatest majority. The LIE-beral version of free speech- which is NO really free ar all- is to allow ONLY LIE-beral versions of free speech to be presented- so the party can cling to power at any price! Its why LIE-berals will not define Islamophobia. Its why LIE-berals scream racist if you question their immigration policies. Its why they call you greedy or selfish if you question their mad deficits and debt. Its why they call you a fool if you ask sensible questions about why Cdn living standard is dropping! LIE-berals DO NOT WANT free debate of their failed policies! They want easy questions gently lobbed their way- that they can brush off with a few pious platitudes and sound bites that supply NO details!)
These discussions allow us to work through our differences and reach an understanding of where the other side is coming from.
At the end of the day, we may not agree on the issues, but we reach a consensus – where both sides have honest convictions and are sincerely working to make Canada a better place.
(Too bad the LIE-beral version of `consensus means giving them total control over all- with LIE-berals willing to throw us a small bone once in a while. LIE-berals are-in the words of Thomas Sowell- the `annointed` of the land- they see themselves as the `natural` leaders because they believe they are more kind and gentle than their opponents- NO MATTER the subject or the value of the counter argument- to dissent from LIE-beral orthodoxy is to become THE ENEMY! This is why many Cdns are fearfull of the LIE-beral stabd on M 103- the Islamophobia `motion` that they are trying to turn into law- apparently as a way to silence critics of ANY LIE-beral policy!)
The ability to voice concerns, to work through ideas, to critique one another and to find solutions together is what unites us as Canadians. Unity is our strength, and it’s the foundation of our free society. But our ability to discuss issues publicly is being undermined.
This week, we’ve seen examples of intolerance, bias and dishonesty working against Canadian unity.
When it comes to intolerance, look no further than the Liberal and NDP MPs who walked out of a meeting simply because the meeting’s chair, Rachael Harder, opposes abortion and backed a bill to impose stricter penalties for crimes committed against pregnant women.
(That the current crop of Conservative leaders would rather be caught cheating on their income tax than get into another party debate about abortion is not relevant to LIE-berals nor to their less cunning and less intelligent NDP cousins! LIE-berals have been harping about a Conservative “secret agenda” for several decades now with NONE of the agenda appearing!)
Intolerant NDP and Liberal MPs refused to be in the room with Harder simply because she holds a different view — a view shared by millions of Canadians of all political stripes.
They don’t want to talk about it, they just want to shut her out and take away her voice — and that of Lethbridge voters who elected Harder to represent them in Ottawa.
(Picking on a socially not too popular view- one that WAS NOT VOICED at the committee meeting- and which ALL Conservatives have been instructed NOT to discuss under any circumstances is a handy way for LIE-beral bigots to distract from their own antics over Islamophobia! Very few Cdns share the view of a few radical feminazis- that an abortion is no more serious than having a woman trim her toenails! We recognize that a potentially viable life is being ended.)
(Most Cdns DO accept that there ARE various circumstances when abortion is logical and even practical. Cdns accept that a female who has been sexually assaulted and becomes pregnant as a result should have the FULL cooperation of society in dealing as she feels necessary with the unwanted burden! Cdns also understand that a woman who learns that her fetus is damaged or deformed in some fashion should be able to end the pregnancy if she desires. Cdns also accept that accidents do happen and that some people are careless about birth control- and we generally accept that if you are too dumb to make birth control work then you ain’t likely to be a good parent either so abortion is a logical option!)
(What Cdns really object to is the idea that life is sacred- ONLY if a LIE-beral says it is! Does anybody recall the furor some years back in which a drug addled native women and full time hooker discovered she was pregnant with her8th- or was it her 10th child and debate broke out over how to deal with this mess. The woman was utterly unable to care for any of her kids- ever single one was born damaged due to her drug habit and every one suffered from fetal alcohol syndrome- NONE of them will ever grow to be fully functioning independent adults! ALL will require life long govt care!)
(There was debate and discussion in the western Cdn city where she sold herself for drugs as to whether or not she should be permitted to carry yet another fetus to full term? LIE-berals and feminazis defended the woman and her rights and life choices while other Cdns asked about OUR rights! As in- what right does SHE HAVE to force her messes on us? Do we not have ANY right to refuse these burdens? LIE-berals think such question are impertinent! Even worse- some female idiot law professor in B.C. called the pregnant drug addict “brave and a survivor”! LIE-berals have NOTHING to be proud of related to their policy on abortion! And it is sheer hypocrisy- typical of LIE-berals that they can sneer at an un-voiced Conservative opinion even as they ram their Islamophobia garbage- seen as bigoted and dangerous to national security- onto US!)
Sure, these leftist MPs were exercising their own freedoms, but this act of political theatre sets an example that you can silence and exclude those with different opinions.

Childish MPs weren’t the only example of a refusal to engage honestly on issues of the day.
Earlier this week, I wrote a column critiquing a CBC article over its claim Sharia law is already in place here in Canada.
When CBC News shared their article on Twitter, they wrote “Sharia is already in Canada.”
My column — “Stop normalizing Sharia law in Canada” — refuted the idea “Sharia is already in Canada”, and encouraged freedom-loving Canadians to join forces with moderate Muslim activists in campaigning against Sharia creeping into our society.
(Actually I feel obligated to agree with CBC on this one- Sharia Law is certainly not present in public main stream Canada but it CERTAINLY IS active away from the public spotlight! News media have reported that the web sites of Muslim Madhrassas/ schools and Mosques are LOADED with writings the average Cdn would call radical- with NO moderate Muslim voices to be heard in such places! LIE-berals know this- and choose to ignore it.)
(Worse- LIE-berals insult anybody who seeks evidence of radical Muslim duplicity. And their Human Rights but too often Wrong Commission is setting up a Kangaroo Court to deal with some Mississauga guy who offered up a thousand dollars to anybody who could provide video of Muslims making hate speeches. So LIE-berals have ALREADY made it a criminal OFFENSE for Cdns to seek proof that radical Muslims are operating in Canada!)
(And what are we to make of our Ontari-owe premier Wynne-bag going to a Mosque in the aftermath of the shooting of 6 Muslims in Quebec- and of course- as a woman- she was expected to shut up and sit in the back with the other second rate citizens until the Male Imam chose to let her come forward among the men to speak! Its probably a good thing she is menopausal since if she was on her period she would be deemed UNCLEAN and not fit to appear among Muslim men! And why is Our idiot Boy the vaunted feminist SILENT on these routine actions that diminish Muslim women? Religious freedom is all very well- just so long as it does not detract from LIE-beral votes!)

Sharia is more than just a set of spiritual guidelines for Muslims. There is no separation of mosque and state in Islamic societies, and therefore, Sharia governs both private and public life.
But rather than having an honest discussion about Sharia and our secular Canadian society, rather than challenging my points and perhaps explaining how the two might be compatible, leftist critics simply attacked me and mischaracterized my argument.
(LIE-berals are CLEARLY uncomfortable discussing the reality of Sharia Law. It is an open secret among Muslims that just as long as Muslim women keep having 4-6 kids and Cdn women keep having 1.5 then Canada will soon become a Muslim nation by default! Once Muslims obtain enough votes their intention is to GUT about half our Cdn constitution and turn women into second rate citizens- in the name of Muslim rights and religion!)

A Huffington Post article took my words out of context to promote the Trudeau government’s agenda and to demonize conservatives.
These tactics work to intimidate would-be critics and silence those with opposing views. They undermine the freedom of speech and civil discourse necessary in a healthy democracy.

If we cannot have an honest discussion about the realities of Sharia law, how can we safeguard our society against it?
When we allow freedom of speech to be curtailed for short-term partisan objectives, in the long run, other freedoms become collateral damage.

If LIE-berals are not engaged in shameless vote buying then why have the majority of good paying full time jobs recently created been virtually all with govt? TORONTO - Ontario's auditor general Bonnie Lysyk is warning that advertising rules in the Liberal government's proposed election finance reforms could give the governing party a political advantage.
Bonnie Lysyk told a legislative committee Thursday that the bill, as written, could limit advertising spending during elections and in the six months prior for third parties and political parties, but not the government.
"There is an advantage to the governing party if it is able to advertise on any issue at any time prior to an election and at any cost in the guise of government advertising," she said.
(LIE-berals have already been caught out mis-using govt advertising funds for VERY self serving ads related to electricity and health care- the two biggest recognized worries of Ontari-owe citizens!)
The auditor general has frequently criticized changes the Liberals made to government advertising rules last year, saying they force her to approve ads even if she thinks they are partisan.
The bill would limit third-party political advertising to $100,000 during elections and $600,000 in the six months leading up to an election, while political parties could spend $1 million in those six months. During the 2015-16 fiscal year, the Liberal government spent more than $40 million running more than 1,200 advertisements, Lysyk said.
(Isnt that nice- LIE-berals seek to limit Any critical discussion of their MANY FAILED policies prior to an election- not only do they want do dominate the debate- they are only willing to let other speak IF they SUPPORT LIE-berals! Another example of LIE-beral disdain for free speech was on display in their `Mydemocracy.ca` website- supposedly dedicated to getting public opinion of their electoral reform/vote rigging scam. As CBC reported- the Mydemocracy web site offered Cdns two choices- they could `approve` of electoral reform or they could `love` it- there was NO PLACE to register disapproval!)

Government ads can be run during elections if it is a time-sensitive message, if they are about a revenue-generating activity, or under any other conditions the government could add through regulations, Lysyk said.
A spokesman said the government expects to bring forward amendments based on committee testimony, such as the auditor general's.
(And the final choices will be made by LIE-berals desperate to cling to power at any price- and by people who never suffer from shame- as witness E-health, ORNGE, the MARS building, paving contracts, failed bridges, gas plants and moudly green energy scams that clean the wallets and leave dirt in the air!)
The committee also heard Thursday from the heads of two teachers' unions, who both called on the government to loosen proposed restrictions on third-party advertising.

There are currently no limits on third-party advertising. In the last general election in 2014, third parties spent $8.64 million, which amounted to 17 per cent of all election spending.
Unions were some of the largest third-party advertisers during the last election. The Working Families Coalition, known for its anti-Tory ads, spent $2.5 million during the campaign, with contributions from some of the province's biggest unions.
(Civil service Hog unions are HARDLY equal to PRIVATE entities! The Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association spent $2.2 million and the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario spent $1.3 million, records show.
Sam Hammond, president of the elementary teachers' union, said there should be no restrictions on third-party advertising outside of an election period.
"Such a limitation is an unreasonable infringement on the right of organizations like ETFO to freedom of expression," he said. "The right of citizens to discuss and debate ideas is a cornerstone of any democratic society and this right extends to third parties such as ETFO."
Ann Hawkins, the head of the Catholic teachers' union echoed ETFO's recommendation, adding that she is concerned by the proposed new definition of what constitutes political advertising.
(What a disgrace that these teachers and the other Hogs that stand with them should hold such a shameless and bigoted view! These Hogs are in a gross conflict of interest- working hard to bend election spending rules to get LIE-berals elected in order to cash in on wonderful salaries and on pensions so rich that people in the private sector are not permitted by law to enjoy such a payout! The bill would define it as advertising with the purpose of promoting or opposing any registered party or candidate, but also includes "advertising that takes a position on an issue with which a registered party or candidate is associated."
"OECTA's Speak for Children campaign for years has spent a great deal of time dealing with the issue of child poverty and its eradication," she said. "Under this legislation, that would be captured and would be limited. That is unacceptable."

Yes-Here is an old post that illustrates civil service Hog thinking and why it is that Stephen Harper is the most LIED about leader in Cdn history! Hogs have been driving themselves into furious RAGE because Harper has chosen to freeze their wages because the country is basically broke and cannot produce more gravy for them- without breaking the economy with new taxes!
The terminally confused and utterly entitled Hogs- just ask them what they THINK they deserve- want MORE MONEY for the provinces and the municipalities-money that will in turn be funneled INTO THEIR POCKETS! And Harper has GIVEN them that! What do they think reduced income taxes produce for the people who have to pay those taxes? If you pay less tax then you get to KEEP MORE money! Its obvious- unless you are a Hog who thinks paying less tax is a BAD THING!
Considering that the Cdn middle class is now made up almost entirely of Hogs- so says StatsCanada- and that these people tend to be the best paid in the land-with repeated studies indicating that they make ONE THIRD MORE than other Cdns-WITHOUT taking their solid gold pensions (which ordinary Cdns don’t get) and assorted dental and other benefits (which ordinary Cdns rarely get) into account-Hogs are the best positioned to take advantage of the income splitting that Harper is offering- income splitting will save them money on their tax bill! They get more money in their pockets courtesy of the Harper government and yet they don’t want it! This offer of MORE MONEY is NOT a `proper` raise in pay!
Hogs don’t like as they see it as a BAD precedent! Lower taxes make ordinary Cdns HAPPY! But NOT Hogs! Lower taxes somehow make it hard to fully fuel their gravy train! They want their goodies supplied in PRIVATE! Supplied in a special and exclusive class! But lower taxes benefit everybody! How foolishly egalitarian!
Hogs are clearly terminally confused dunderheads who only understand taking taxes out of the pockets of ordinary people- any fiscal calculation more complex than that (such as simply reducing their expenses by lowering taxes) is lost on them! And once they have gorged themselves on a huge flow of Gravy and are TEMPORARILY satisfied then they are prepared to throw some small crumbs (in the form of increased welfare payments and some extra pogey) to the poor-meaning all those people who don’t have enough after tax income to live on easily thanks to the Gravy Train!
The real beef with Hog whiners is the utterly bankrupt pension plans that the Hogs desperately want propped with Federal dollars but this is the LAST thing that Harper will do as it’s neither fair to ordinary Cdns (the real ones, not Hog frauds) nor affordable! The only people to have those solid gold defined benefit pensions are civil servants and the rate of return they DEMAND is not even legally available to the few private sector workers who have access to much poorer pension versions.
The Hog Pension deficit is an infinitely deep black hole that will bankrupt all of Canada if we even try to fill it in with tax dollars! The Hog pension hole is so deep that Ontari-owe premier McGinty resigned from his wonderfully happy and profitable place in politics rather than get into the kind of dogfight that would be needed to place even a small restriction on the ever growing Hog pension deficit hole! Harper was quite right Not to trust Cdn news media as they are mostly VERY LIE-beral friendly! For instance, the last time Cdn media discussed the federal Hog pension deficit publicly was around 2012. At that time the FEDERAL Hog pension deficit was reported as over THREE HUNDRED BILLION DOLLARS- that is Cdn money- and NOT Mexican Pesos! We may guess that number has CLIMBED SINCE THAT TIME!
But what of the other two levels of govt? We don’t know. They don’t speak about their greed! What do we owe to the third level- the municipal workers? Who knows? And what of the FOURTH level of govt- the arms length crown corps such as E-health, Metrolinx, colleges and universities and hospitals? With college support staff currently ON STRIKE- yet again- and with York U. Staff being already the best paid in North America! And college senior staffers DEMANDING a fifty percent raise in pay!
And now, Ontari-owe LIE-berals have turned our ENTIRE electrical system into a gigantic slush fund so they can shovel cash from Hydor price gouging into Hog pockets. And LIE-berals have slammed shut the books so we cannot see whatever it is that they are doing! And Ontari-owe LIE-berals have become fearful of public rage over soaring electricity prices- and it does not help that Wynne-bag is th most unpopular politician in Cdn history- and so they have cut back Hydro prices and implemented their Carbon crap and trade scam instead- the one modelled FULLY on the disgraced and fraud riddled European model that cleans cash from wallets and leaves the dirt in the air!
And Our idiot Boy Justin has jumped on the Carbon crap and trade band wagon because he also has Hogs to placate! In 2012, federal Hogs were owed something like three hundred billion dollars in LIE-beral pension promises! God only knows how much is owed at this time- with Our idiot Boy knowing full well that He CANNOT be re-elected without that critical Hog support! Oh yes- he has high expectations from his newly purchased pals from Syria but there just are not enough of them he NEEDS more support-hence the need for MORE GRAVY!
And these LIE-berals want to call Harper a “corrupt dictator”? HAHAHAHAHA!!

So, we now have conclusive proof that Lie-berals lack any real understanding of how our economy functions AND this also PROVES that Lie-berals should NOT be given access to the levers of power at this critical time! As our economy slides deeper into recession, we hear repeated cries from Lie-berals demanding that Harper `explain` what he has supposedly done `wrong`. Lie-berals are oblivious to the connection between tax revenue and Alberta oil sales....less oil sold means less tax revenue for Ottawa.......simple...unless you are a LIE-beral!
Less oil sold means less drilling and more unemployed people with corresponding reductions in income tax paid.....it SEEMS simple doesn't it?
Lie-berals are also oblivious of the long term economic consequences of massive government debt and believe that the phrase "buy now and pay later" means NEVER having to face consequences! In the Lie-beral mind, retiring from politics with a solid gold pension BEFORE the bills come due means NEVER HAVING TO PAY! Lie-beral governments have bought....and bought...and bought.....and.....now its LATER and THERE ARE CONSEQUENCES that the current generation of Lie-berals BELIEVE they CANNOT hide from!
Lie-berals are also oblivious to the effect on Cdn economy of their loonie leftist Lie-beral fellow travelers in other countries-such as in Europe where governments wrestle with THEIR massive and carelessly acquired debts-Greece is only the first and most obvious nation of the `PIGS` to default on loans and debt.....so bankrupt Europeans buy less Chinese crap...which translates into less of our raw material sold to Chinese to make stuff with.....again this simple concept eludes Lie-berals! Sadly Lie-berals are lacking in some intellectual capacity that would allow them comprehension of these simple facts.
Further-in these troubled times we have seen Lie-berals repudiate their LONG HELD standard solution to economic troubles. From earliest days Cdn government has relied on `quick fix` economic solutions to raise our living standard. The quick fix involves bribing some international corporation to set up a branch plant here in exchange for some cash consideration. Sadly, generations of grossly short sighted and fiscally challenged Lie-berals have now SPENT all the money, mortgaged the entire country and sold everything of value to foreigners and used the cash raised by the sell out to BRIBE civil service union Working Family Hogs into supporting Lie-beral madness.
That was then, this is now.....the money is GONE, NOTHING LEFT TO SELL, NO MORE CREDIT WITH MONEY LENDERS! Corporations are now leaving us for greener pastures-heading to less heavily taxed and less costly places to do their business....and as per the DEALS LIE-berals SIGNED, the corporations are TAKING their money with them to places out of reach of Lie-beral tax HOGS....while foolish Lie-berals squeal that Harper is letting them get away with something or other?
How much of the current economic mess and corporate welfare nonsense is the fault of Lie-berals? That noted journalist and self proclaimed Lie-beral supporter Peter Newman points out in his book `When the Gods Changed`, that Lie-beral prime ministers ruled Canada for SEVENTY of the ONE HUNDRED years of the twentieth century! Yeah, Lie-berals SPEND like loons and then frightened Cdns call in Conservatives to clean up some of the mess....too bad Conservatives were not called on more frequently...and now the Lie-beral party is over and cleaning up the financial mess left by SEVENTY YEARS of Lie-beral debt is going to be UGLY!
In their frustration, Lie-berals have taken to sneering at Harper because he has `business connections`.....as if being on sensible terms with the people operating your economy was a bad thing? And its not as if Lie-berals were not once friendly with business.....even though business now regards them as tax happy LOONS!
Cdn Lie-beral prime minister Mackenzie King retired in 1948, with his old age made rather more comfortable with a pension supplied by the friendly folks at United States based Rockefeller Foundation....and no doubt Lie-berals will NOT wish to discuss just how many Yankee corporate butts King (a serving Cdn Lie-beral prime minister) would have to kiss in order to GET such a pension? But they are happy to make a public display of hypocrisy and sneer at Harper while forgetting King!
Mark Twain described the US congress as "the natural criminal class" of his country and we Cdns know our biggest and best market is and probably always will be those Yankees. They have allowed their natural criminal class to destroy much of their economy in the sub prime mortgage melt down and they have yet to recover from it due to the massive debts they now carry. US style lie-berals ALSO believe in `buy now and pay later`......if ever! And this also is hurting Cdn revenue opportunities since our former best customers are now short of cash..
Lie-berals and their less intelligent cousins of NDP are incapable of formulating a long term economic plan-NDP leader Mulcair recently castigated Harper for failing to `properly` support Ontari-owe auto industry....and yet, Mulcair insists that if he becomes prime minister he WILL implement a `carbon tax` plan for Canada.....he wants more cars produced here.....and wants to then tax people so they cannot afford to drive them! Just how many cars does he think will be needed if everybody is unemployed?
The NDP `brain trust` believes in some sort of fiscal perpetual motion machine......borrow enough money and it will magically fuel the economy into perpetual motion....somehow? One has only to read the nonsense written by such loonie leftists as Linda McQuaig regarding economic solutions to our troubles-she demands that government BORROW money to put Cdns to work.... more people working means more tax revenue and less welfare costs.....so how can we lose? Sadly she ignores the cost of borrowing, ignores the `friction` caused by civil servants who demand insane `entitlements` in exchange for vague `supervision` of government projects that all too often run WAY over budget and she also ignores the weird sort of brain cramp that quickly comes to afflict virtually EVERY person who works for government.....and that brain cramp inhibits brisk and efficient production of anything by government workers....civil servants excel in only one area, thanks to that weird brain cramp: the DEMAND for MORE MONEY! They excel at making lists of entitlements!
All this civil service brain cramp stuff will guarantee that we cannot BORROW our way out of a paper bag! One has only to look at the `career` of Ontari-owe NDP leader Bob Rae....he tried to `borrow` us rich....and did such a great job at it that he had to ABANDON or be thrown out of the NDP party he once led...and he fled over to the Lie-berals!
Mulcair is concerned about the job killing cost of electricity and the hardships imposed on the elderly and the poor and the sick and he is right in this, yet he also demands that carbon tax that will force the price of food to soar, force up electrical costs and generate massive inflation....which will hurt the elderly and the poor and the sick....does he KNOW what he wants? Or should we assume he wants to play Monopoly.....with real money.....and OUR LIVES!
Lie-berals in Ontari-owe (and their dumb NDP cousins) are already badly frightened by the amount of red ink flowing across Ontari-owe books-so fast and so deep is the flow that Ontari-owe premier McWynnty-known to some as the Great Whore because she has sold herself, her party and OUR FUTURE to the Hogs of Working Family Coalition-is daring to defy the civil service unions and REFUSING to give them more gravy as they demand. In response, the Hogs are planning to shut down Ontari-owe with massive strikes later this year unless they get what they DEMAND! The future of Ontari-owe AND of the Lie-beral party are at stake here-if the Whore stands firm and refuses more money her PARTY is toast in the next election-the Whore herself is already history due to her gas plant, E-health, Ornge and bribery lies and she WILL be replaced by a new leader before the next election...but seriously defying the Hogs will KILL the entire party!
But giving in and handing over more gravy to the Hogs will show the world that Lie-beral government is led by the human equivalent of a puppet on a stick-who wants to see union Hogs shove a stick up the Whore`s ass and use it as a handle to make the Lie-beral puppet dance to their tune? Lie-berals would NEVER live that down!
Lastly, let me point to that classic line uttered by the boy with the nice hair-the self styled (but imitating his father) Great Leader-Justin Trudope and his classic statement: " the deficit will take care of itself"! AS if we needed further proof of the shallowness of the Lie-beral brain pool? Canada is leaking money in all directions thanks to Lie-beral madness. They have monkeyed with our legal system and with our immigration system and have created grossly expensive chaos in all directions...and now they think WE are dumb enough to blame DECADES of Lie-beral madness entirely on Harper! Politics is a dirty game....but do we really NEED to play it on the LIE-beral level? Or should we ask for something better?
LIE-berals ALWAYS encourage SHORTER RESPONSES- they are hoping DESPERATELY that less detail will allow them to salvage some shred of dignity from their soured values and failed policies!

TORONTO - Two separate incidents on Tuesday afternoon left thousands of GO Transit train riders sitting through “nightmare” delays.
A 4:30 p.m. train from Union Station heading to Oshawa broke down, leaving passengers on board for three hours and delaying trains that were to follow.
A short time later, a gas leak not far from the tracks near Aurora suspended trains on the Barrie line.
“Unfortunately, we had two situations at the same time,” Metrolinx spokesman Anne Marie Aikins said Wednesday.
“It happened during a busy rush hour, which caused other delays.”
Peter Papadop was on the broken-down Oshawa train, which was about 150 metres from the platform at Ajax station, and says it was a nightmare.
“It was a mess. The air was turned off, the lights were out and the updates were poor and unorganized. Mechanical issues happen, but they have to take responsibility,” Papadop said.
(GO has of course no responsibility for natural gas leaks but public transit will NEVER be first choice among Cdns when it can be so easily derailed by outside events. If a road is blocked, the driver has the option of alternate streets or can kill time having a meal at a restaurant or visiting friends etc. For public transit to be widely accepted as the better way, they MUST build relief lines so it can set up and offer alternate routes on short notice. Such long disruptions of service as now occur are simply unacceptable to Cdn majority.)
“There was a pregnant lady on the train and she wasn’t doing very well. I have a newborn baby at home and I couldn’t tell my wife when I would get home to help.”
Aikins said despite how close the train was to the station, they couldn’t allow passengers to leave.
“People were like, ‘just open the door and let me walk,’ but these were live tracks. We had hoped it wouldn’t have been as long. Nobody thought it would be three hours (to get the train to the station),” Aikins said.
She says the situation on the Barrie line was changing by the minute.
“Customers were frustrated they weren’t getting information, but it was a rapidly evolving situation. We provided as many buses as we could to get people home, but you can’t replace trains with buses,” Aikins said.
(Hey-you heard it here QUOTED from a Metrolinx donkey that “YOU CANNOT REPLACE TRAINS WITH BUSSES”! Is this not a persuasive argument that busses and LRT`s are INFERIOR to subways? A subway is an all new addition to existing travel options-while LRT is simply an ALTERATION to an existing road option-LRT is faster than buses thanks to its dedicated road lane but it MESSES UP car traffic-and it screws parking options and revenue for small businesses along the route!
