A ten year old kid called 911 from a speeding car being driven recklessly by his drunk father.

buh bye to his license and maybe his kids

what should happen here, they obviously are quite wealthy

Sadly the accumulation of wealth doesn't seem to necessarily correlate with an abundance of brains. See, idiots like this should never, ever be allowed to operate a vehicle again for the rest of their lives. Period. And if, or when, they disregard that restriction and drive without a licence, throw their *** in jail for 5-10 years.

Damn lucky his kids survived.

Glad the kids are OK.

Wonder if I could pick up the Jeep, cheap.;-)

Little guy was on the ball. Good for him.

Father should lose at least his license. AFTER he gets horsewhipped.

he looks contrite, I wondered who the woman was in the video throwing daggers at him... must be his mum...

at the very least,he should undergo counselling, a huge fine, his vehicle should now be rigged with one of those "blow and go" systems, and I think he should have to do a lot of community hours (100's) with drug addicts and alcoholics on the street.

I am getting really big on the idea of imposing huge huge community work hours on people. I think it could turn people around and make a difference for others. He obviously has immense underlying issues that he needs to deal with.

I have little tolerance for this. If I wrote the laws, I'd say he should lose the right to drive a personal vehicle for life, no exception. And that's for a first offense with no casualties.

Yes I'd agree with that, would like to see more of that used. But we're talking about long term commitments to community services though, not just six months and done, or whatever the normal sentence is. Recidivism is probably quite high for DUI, I would suspect, but there is no real need to lock someone behind bars per se, especially if there were no lives lost. I think a house arrest with heavy community service would suffice.

yes house arrest, I don't have a problem with that either, along with all of the other recommendations

Ordinarily I have no tolerance for BS like DUI's, but when I stop and pause and think about it, prisons are crowded. And I'd much rather that rapists, murderers and pedophiles be the ones to stay locked up, perhaps indefinitely. So house arrest seems like a viable option.

But definitely rip that license away, driving isn't a right, it's a privilege.

agreed, we don't need to be feeding and housing these people when they can be productive contributing members of society, it's too expensive and serves no purpose

I would like to see them begin house arrests frequently for all non-violent offenses, they would wear ankle bracelets, do community work, even continue to go to work with a large portion of money paid to the victims, in this case the guy in the over turned car needs some financial assistance etc.

we could do so much better with this system than throwing people in jail... I would like to see his license gone but for a limited time and then he drives the blow and go....he will need transportation for all of the work he is going to perform to make things right
