I dunno, Finder, you're making no better case
for accountability in America or in Canada.

You look too hard for a simple scarecrow to blame.

You do little justice to the voters in either nation.

I don't think the voters in either nation are dumb.
They're no better or worse than their leaders
who flail about looking for solutions.

I do believe in a process of discovery over time
that is longer than an election cycle. You have
seen mediocre leaders for decades in many nations
who might have in another time become quite great.

There are deeper and longer cycles of process and
of discovery that are missed precisely because this
process of understanding is so slow moving.

If you elevated a mere mortal voter to the position
of leader, none of them would do any better or worse.

The forces of change involve both top-down movement
and bottom-up movements over time.

And in between a lot of bowel movements.

jimmoyer, fine, the American people elect the perfect people to solve all their needs for them. I give up. To me it's simple answer to this problem. It may not work but it would at least most likely get better results. That is having the American voters actually make their politicians accountable for anything they do.

The Canadian system indeed sucks but at least I believe Canadians hold our politicans more accountable, at least our MPs since we are not allowed to vote for our Senate, and once you are a senator here you have the job pretty much for life (well theirs a retirment age but you know what I mean). But Canada is far from perfect, but the USA has a better chance then Canada to elect people who will do better for the USA but Americans chose not to do this.

Has anyone read 2150 AD by Thea Alexander?

Its a piece of fiction about the future society that runs on equality. Except for a tiny mico island that was run by a dictator.......Wanna guess who was happier?

Don't give up, because you make valid points, although you lump every Amerikan in your comment and it loses validity. You cannot blame an entire people for the status quo. It is not reasonable. Besides, Ross Perot proves you wrong for a "third party candidate". And everything is a matter of perspective.

I will agree with you on one thing, I thank our lucky stars for our Constitution, despite its flaws (and there are flaws) we would be totally phucked.

Yeah, Finder, do not give up. It's been a pleasure
discussing this with you.

I just sincerely disagree that the matter is simple.

I see the pros and cons in the struggle of the process
and tend to respect the difficulty of it far more.

RE: What Makes America Pe

I completely agree with the arguments that "I think Not" is making.

Now I like the USA,...alot. I travel there every year. To different parts. I have begun to understand the people, the way of being, the mindset. Different does not mean inferior. I think its so easy for Canadians to pass judgement on the Americans with blanket statements when one sits high on the pedestal. In my experience, when i travelled beyond the tourist trap cities such as NY, LA, Orlando, Las Vegas, which is what most people see of the States, you get a much different picture.

I have met so many nice people. Government policy alone will not help the poor. Support of the community, support of hte local churches, have a greater impact than any government policy could ever have.

Theres no point to my argument, but i just hate these high horse sitting posts that make blanket assertions about the US.

I hate high horse ultimatums too - they are over-generalized, too sweeping, not applicable, and often come from ignorance and pomposity.

The American voter, for example...who is that? The government...who is that? Please. You talk about poverty.
It's like prostitution. I'm afraid it's always going to be around in every society. Americans have been very generous with Africa, the poorest continent. We have paid 85% of the UN budget. We are begging for relief on our taxes!

Don't get on us. We are each doing the best we can with what we have been given. True, some have less than others, but that's economics. And it's education, personality, life history, individual circumstances, IQ, health, support systems, and MANY other things that interplay to make poverty a chronic condition. Basically it is here to stay.

The Amount of power which a PM with a magority has is almost like an absolute monarch, yet most of Canada's PM's have actted in an enlightend democratic fashion, even Mulroney I'd say wasn't that bad of a leader.

Any comments on Trudeau and FLQ?
