A friend of mine, from Chicago, was shopping in London once, and found herself being served by a newly employed shop assistant, who was having real trouble operating the till. He apologised profusely, and my friend smiled and told him: "That's fine, you take as much time as you need." When he'd eventually finished the transaction, he thanked her for her patience, and said "So ... which part of Canada are you from?" :p

". Canada is regarded as nothing more than a land of ice, snow, bad weather, and a bunch of scavengers who come to the States in order to take our jobs.

:) The less the US contingency knows about Canada the better. We have all seen what the US does to countries they happen to take an "interest" in.

If the US contingency believes Canadians live in Igloos and chew blubber..........that is just fine by YT. It only confirms how uninformed /uneducated they choose to remain.

*******
Canadian culture as such is very young......and evolving. That is the "culture" in itself.;-) Hard working, industriousness, toughness of character .....(not in a testosterone way)-hardy...but a genuine way, compassionate , tactful, polite,(usually;-) and respectful of its own nation as well as other nations.-without un nec flamboyance or drama. Sports and the arts (fine) are a big part of the evolving culture. Mostly understated.

RE: What is Canadian Cult

The thing is, as close as we are geography wise and come from partly the same heritage (Europe/Britain) we are not really the same. Yes we all have the same modern technology, same tv shows, same vehicles etc but we really are diferent people. From what we prefer in sports to social issues.

We are a young country and have not totally disreguarded our heritage.

Freedom through Heavy Taxation

At least you'll get your medical insurance to cover you if you get sick.

In the States we do not get any such coverage. So I as a taxpayer am forced to pay taxes which go to Israel so that they can pay for their citizen's medical need, but cannot get any coverage for myself!

Tracy, Aikman discuss NASCAR options

A pair of football Hall of Famers may be Paul Tracy's ticket into NASCAR competition in 2006.

Tracy, the former Champ Car champion who has NASCAR aspirations, says he's spoken with former NFL quarterback Troy Aikman about possibly joining his new stock car team next season.

"I've talked with Troy on the phone and we're going to set up a meeting at some point," Tracy said in Montreal while preparing for this weekend's Champ Car race.

Aikman and another former Dallas Cowboys quarterback, Roger Staubach, along with Trans-Am driver Bill Saunders have formed Hall of Fame Racing, which plans to compete in the Nextel Cup in 2006. The team has signed a working agreement with Joe Gibbs Racing.

The 36-year-old Tracy has expressed interest in NASCAR for years and, finally, did something about it earlier this month, taking part in a two-day test at Michigan International Speedway in a Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet.

It was hoped that Tracy would indeed make his NASCAR debut at the Michigan event but both sides agreed there simply wasn't enough time to properly prepare a fourth car for the race. Tracy says he hopes to get another opportunity to show he's got what it takes later this year.

"Richard is planning to do a 500-mile engine reliability test and I'd hope to do that for him," Tracy said. "Then, we're hoping I can drive a race later this year at either Atlanta or Homestead, which are both tracks that should suit me pretty well."

Tracy, whose 30 career victories are the most by any active Champ Car driver, is not yet signed with any team for 2006, although Champ Car team owner Gerald Forsythe has offered him a new contract.

"I know Gerry would like to know something, yes or no, as soon as possible," Tracy said. "But I'm not going to make any decision until after I've driven a (NASCAR) race.

"I figure, at my age, I still have three, four, maybe five years in (Champ Car) left in me, but it could be the right time to make a change and I want to take a good look at it. I've talked with some other teams over there (in NASCAR), but Richard Childress is the only one who has stepped up and made something happen at this point."

While it's not a done deal as of yet, every report that I've seen points to that direction for him. Looks like certain Canadians will sell their souls to the Devil for $$$. That's a sad day for Canadian culture.

We have better teeth than americans, and they are not capped, look at donald sutherland. And than his kid. We could go on, all the best smiles in hollywood are canadian. Look at the evidence Lorne greene, perry mason, jim carey.

In Dumb and Dumber, Jim Carrey's character, Lloyd, had a chipped tooth. It was real. Carrey thought the chipped tooth would suit the character, so he had his cap removed for the part! Hahaha.

I'm not sure if anyone pointed this out, and I know it was posted a looooong time ago. But I'm new and have SO much to read. For one day, could you guys all stop posting so I could catch up? LOL.

Once I read through all the answers to the original question in this thread, I will post my own. As a fan of Jim Carrey, I just had to point that one out. Hehehe.

*edit*

Okay, it looks as though my answer has already been posted. I don't think that I could word it better than this.

Canadian Culture means Freedom and right to be who you are without repercussions. It's also the right to equal rights and have the system protect them even if they aren't "popular".

So... ditto. :)

Canadian Culture?
Outside of the major Cities (Vancouver, Montreal, Toronto) it consists of Watching American TV, drinking beer, and whining.

RE: What is Canadian Cult

You should spend some time in Canada, LaoWai. There's plenty of culture here, including in small towns. If you are too blind to see it, or too lazy to look for it, then I feel sorry for you.

RE: What is Canadian Cult

I just spent two weeks in small towns, Mom. For somebody who has never done that to be bashing the culture in those places shows an ignorance that I couldn't let go unanswered.

I would of figured Tracey would of gone to F1 myself.

Agree. But it should have happened by now. He's getting a little long in the tooth and it's just a bit difficult to enter into that highly select circle, esp after all these years.

There were loads of collisions at Bristol yesterday and this type of head-on stuff is just the ticket for Tracy. I hate to see him go but agree that he can handle those sweaty rednecks at NASScar and be a good fit in their circuit.
