I read The DIVINCI CODE just for the reason the Church is against it! Not a bad read, just not very fulfilling or informative. I wouldn't buy any more of Dan Brown's work.At the moment,I am reading my second Ian Rankin "Rebus" novel,"Set In Darkness".

Anybody read the new book from Jared Diamond - Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed?? Thinking about getting it. His earlier book "Guns,
Germs and Steel" is fantastic - I highly recommend it. It's a brief description of the history of mankind, exploring questions like why life unfolded differently in different parts of the world. This guy has such a broad range of knowledge!

But if I'm not buying all these hardcovers, then who will give them to the thrift stores to sell for a buck or two?

If you have a local library, usually at the start of each year, they have a large "garage sale" and books, records, magazines go for nickles on the dollar.

Currently I'm reading 'Spartan' by Valerio Massimo Manfredi. It's nothing special but a bit of escapism before I read the second half of 'A short history of nearly everything'.

I quite enjoyed the DaVinci Code and Dan Browns 'Angel and Demons' is good for a laugh as well. At least I had some idea what went on at Conclave after reading that.

Of course, I would be reading 'Into the silk' if I could bring myself to pay the stupid money that it costs.

I don't miss the "Miss Morals" lectures you used to give! I was just looking for Mr. Right ... until I found out the right man for the job was a woman! ;) Just be glad I didn't figure that out while were sharing sheets, Pea! Who knows what might have happened? Sheesh, back then the only reason I wanted into your pants was because they were so tiny and I was envious I couldn't fit into them!

As for sticking to topic ... right now I'm reading "The Laughing Corpse" by Laurell K. Hamilton (thanks Pea ... you were the first one to give me one of her books!). Vampires and stuff. I'm also reading Sue Grafton, "R is for Ricochet" and still plugging my way through "Dykeversions ... Lesbian Fiction". The last is a bit literary for my tastes ... give me some good Carl Hiaasen, Christopher Moore or Janet Evanovich any day!

If anyone hasn't read Moore's stuff, I highly recommend it. Absurdity to the max ... laugh out loud. Very good writer. I especially liked "Island of the Sequined Love Nun" and "Practical Demonkeeping".

Well, Pea, I am off for nap. Good luck with the big game tonight.
